Preston's POV
It was way too early. It was 8:30 on a Monday morning, and I just arrived at my first biology lecture, ready to fall back asleep.
It was the first day of classes, and I already had a full schedule. After biology, I had calculus at noon, and then a physics lecture at 3:20 PM. I wasn't looking forward to physics, considering it was my least favourite science subject. Oh, and I was also horrible at it. I didn't mind biology and chemistry, but physics was on a whole other level.
And god, the lecture room was huge. There were at least six hundred seats, but I got there early and found a seat in the smack middle row. By the time the lecture started and the professor was introducing himself, the lecture room was at full capacity. There were so many people.
The lecture went on for an hour and a half. In the first half of the lecture, the professor went through our course syllabus, displayed his office hours, and introduced the TAs. For the second half of the lecture, he got started on our first unit while I typed notes on my laptop. This specific biology class was molecular and cellular biology, probably one of the hardest sectors of biology in my opinion.
By the time the lecture was over, I stuffed my laptop back into my bag and followed the large crowd of students out of the lecture hall. I received a text from Elijah, asking me if I wanted to meet up with him for breakfast, and so I walked out of the science building and headed to the university bus station, where he would be meeting me.
"Hey, Preston!" Elijah greeted me with a bright smile that reached his hazel eyes. The sun was shining brightly, glinting against his auburn hair that was pushed out of his face. He was dressed in a dark green rugby sweatshirt and a pair of dark jeans.
"Hey Elijah," I smiled back, "how was algebra?"
He hummed, "It was good, actually. How was biology?"
"It was also good. Though, I would prefer it to not be so early in the morning. I was ready to fall asleep."
Elijah laughed, shaking his head, "well, maybe a cup of coffee will wake you up."
We got on the bus when it arrived. When we reached our stop and got off, Elijah and I walked down to the breakfast restaurant called Momma's Kitchen. Soon we were seated at a booth and our orders were taken by a waiter. Elijah and I chatted for a bit and eventually, the waiter had come back with our orders.
"So, Preston," Elijah started, sipping his strawberry banana smoothie. In front of him, he had a plate of waffles with a side of bacon, the waffles drizzled with bananas and Nutella, "you should like, tell me about your love life."
"What do you wanna know?" I chuckled, taking a bite of my eggs. I had ordered a plate of eggs, bacon, sausage, and two pancakes, as well a black coffee.
"Hmm, I don't know. Have you ever had a partner?" He asked curiously.
"Uh, yeah," I nodded slowly, "I've already told you about him. Remember Adrien?"
"Shit, really?" Elijah blinked, surprised, "you told me he was your best friend. Does that mean you two aren't together anymore?"
"Yeah, we broke up several months ago," I replied, putting down my fork to sip my coffee, "some stuff happened but we talked it out, so we're just friends now."
"Ah, I see."
"What about you?" I raised a brow, "ever had a partner?"
"Oh, yeah, I've had a couple," Elijah chuckled, cutting into his waffles, "I've had three. They were all kings."
I hummed, nodding, "Adrien was the first and only person I've ever dated. I slept around a lot back in high school, but I never actually dated anyone. Relationships kind of scare me."
"Really, why?" Elijah frowned.
"I don't know...they just do," I sighed, shaking my head. Probably cause most of the time relationships end, and it hurts. A lot.
"You shouldn't let your fear stop you from dating, Preston," Elijah said, "sure, a lot of relationships might end in heartbreak, but that just puts you one step closer to the person who you're meant to be with. It just takes time."
I sighed, shrugging, "I don't know...I guess so."
"I know so," Elijah smiled, "you'll find the right person eventually Preston, don't cha worry."
I smiled softly at Elijah. Instead of replying, I went back to eating my breakfast. The conversation shifted, and while we ate, Elijah and I talked about other stuff, mainly school, music, and sports. Elijah was on the ice hockey team and they would be having their first game next week, so I was going to go watch the game.
When Elijah and I finished our breakfast, paid for our meal, and headed back to campus, we had fifteen minutes to get to calculus. We managed to reach the lecture hall with five minutes to spare and took our seats next to Primrose who saved two empty seats for the both of us.
