Kai worked on improving his drawing ideas for book covers. There was something in a few graphics that he wasn't happy about, and there was no way he could figure out what was that. It wasn't easy because his cold made it hard to concentrate; a hard pounding in his head every time he moved and blocked his nose combined with overall body weakness held his creative abilities.
He walked into the kitchen wrapped in a blanket and opened a cupboard with first aid supplies, hoping to find anything in there. A small smile appeared on his lips as he noticed various boxes of cold medicine packed in a small basket. He hadn't bought anything in a while, and there was only one person who could have done it behind his back. Kai pulled out his phone, sending Noah a short message. Two minutes passed, and his phone went off.
"Are you ill?" Noah said with a worried tone in his voice.
"Yeah, just a simple cold. It will pass soon as always, so don't worry about me. Thanks for the pills. You are a lifesaver. I had no idea you left them here for me." Kai replied.
"I was worried you wouldn't have anything when you would need them turned out I was right," Noah told him with satisfaction in his voice. "Knowing you, you wouldn't go to get anything either. Okay, I have to go. Let me know if you will need anything."
"Sure." The line went silent, and Kai took some of the medicines Noah left for him. After the pills started working, he felt sleepy and wrapped himself on the sofa, taking a peaceful nap.
The end of the week had come, and Kai was on his way to Leo's house. Several cars passed by as he got off the bus headed for the Leo building complex. The neighbourhood seemed quiet. At first glance, you could tell that people have lived here for generations. There were not many trees around, and some flowers planted in specially designated, well-kept areas.
The building was in a grey shade with blue balcony railings. You could spot big windows and a couple of pigeons sitting here and there on the window seats. Pulling out the phone to check the flat number Kai pressed the right button and waited. After a few bells rings, the door opened. Finding the right door was easy as Leo left them open for him.
"Aren't you afraid that someone else will enter before me?" Kai walked in, closing the door behind.
"All my neighbours know me, and there is no one else walking around in the building. So no, I am not afraid." Leo smiled playfully and filled the bowl with the freshly made popcorn. The buttery smell surrounded him as he walked to the kitchen, joining Leo. Kai leaned against the refrigerator, offering help but met with a firm rejection. In the end, he picked up from the table a bowl of popcorn while watching Leo collecting all the snacks and drinks from the cupboards.
They took everything to the living room, where the movie was prepared on the screen, waiting to click play. On the sofa were placed two red blankets with grey stripes and a few small, colourful pillows. That small space looked invitingly and cosy. Kai sat down and covered his knees with a blanket. To be more satisfied, he placed a pillow behind his back.
"It's so comfy here that I don't mind if this movie turns out to be a complete flop," Kai said and smiled lazily.
"I don't know if I should feel flattered or offended right now." Leo chuckled, pressing play and settled the bowl with popcorn between the two of them.
"I don't have high expectations in the first place," Kai smirked, and Leo glared at him.
"The latest, I guess then." Leo shook his head, sighing. The first minutes passed, and Leo's attention drowned entirely in the screen.
Bored, Kai looked around the room, which was exceptionally modern, considering it belonged to his grandmother. On the other hand, before Leo moved in, the apartment may have been renovated. The walls were pale yellow with a white ceiling, dark wood floor and matching furniture. On the shelf were placed books, a lot of books. Taking into consideration that Leo studied literature, it made sense. Besides books, there was nothing else there. The walls were bare, and no pictures to be spotted around. A couple of flowers were standing on the window shelf, probably left by his grandmother.
Kai got distracted when Leo rested his head on his shoulder, at the same time covering himself with the blanket. The additional spark came from outside when they could hear pitter-patter hitting the window. Kai didn't mind that, not at all. It was the opposite, as he learned that he never loved the sound of the rain more in his life before.
Curled up with Leo, warm and cosy, he woke up when the movie ended. Looking to his right noticed a peacefully sleeping chestnut-haired head snuggled up in his side. Smiling softly, he turned in place as he lay down on his back, resting his head on the armrest of the sofa. Kai gently held Leo, laying him down with him.
Leo didn't wake up and was sleeping on his chest now. Wrapping his arms around a man, he hugged him closer to himself and soon drifted out in sleep, feeling unexpectantly comfortable with the other person in such a small space.
Slow movement around brought him back to reality. Realizing that it must be pretty early, he opened his eyes and met with the half-asleep face. Leo leaned on his elbow on Kai's right side, pressing his body against his. Kai watched him in awe before he spoke, still half asleep.
"Good morning." Leo smiled and lay down back on Kai' chest. "I don't want to get up." Kai chuckled and covered Leo's shoulders with the blanket hugging him close to himself. He felt Leo's shoulders tighten slightly, then relax.
A faint light began to pick through the window as the sun rose slowly on the sky. Kai listened to slow breathing Leo, who was hugging him back, asleep again. Feeling his chest tighten, stuffing him with sympathy for the boy laying on top of him, Kai couldn't stop smiling. There was nothing sexual in it despite the closeness they were locked in.
Kai couldn't comprehend the difference comparing his previous relationships to the current experience. He wasn't bothered by it. Kai was fine, as long as he had him by his side.
Thank you for all votes! Every each of them is making my day brighter. We are close to halfway through Kai's and Leo's story. I'm curious about your thoughts!
