Akira stood in the room, staring at himself. He really didn’t think he would actually ever get to this point, but everything worked quickly by the time that the dress had been finished by the bridal shop. He had been more than happy to allow them to take pictures of him and was glad that they also seemed to enjoy it as well.
He continued to stare at himself in the mirror, not noticing the man that had come into the room. He jumped as his shoulders were touched. He looked past himself and towards the person, before he smiled softly “Hey, Sato,” he said and looked at them in the mirror, together.
“Not going to lie, I seriously never saw this coming,” Sato said, chuckling a bit. “Well, I saw you getting married, and honestly to a guy, just… never in a dress,” he said, shaking his head.
Akira laughed “yeah, well I didn’t see any of this happening, so you did better than me.”
Sato turned his younger brother around and gave him a hug “Well, at least you aren’t wearing any makeup, I’m pretty sure you already have mom and dad rolling in their graves with the dress. Dad probably more than Mom, most definitely more than mom,” he snickered. “Though, and as odd as this is for me to say, you do look beautiful.”
Akira rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah,” he murmured before glancing at the clock, “Come on, we both can’t be late for my wedding,” he said and moved over to the door.
“Akira,” Sato called before grabbing Akira’s hand, “I- well, I have a gift for you that I want to give to you after everyone is gone, okay? I want to give it to both of you, together.”
Akira tilted his head, “Yeah, okay.”
Sato nodded and moved to lead his little brother out and into the small reception area that they had created for this event. Both Akira and Edward weren’t able to afford anything super lavish, just a small event.
So to a local dance hall, they went, just for a few hours, enough for the ceremony and a bit of a dance after. They had decided since the wedding group was small enough that they could simply eat at the apartment. When Akira entered the small dance hall, he stopped, so did everyone else. He fidgeted for one moment before Sato gave him a small tug and led him down the aisle.
Akira kept staring at Edward, who also kept staring back at Akira. They got lost in their own little world. The ceremony was a blur to them, not really sure what was going on, just going through the motions that they had learned during the rehearsal. They smiled like high school kids at each other. Just enjoying each other's company. Soon the ceremony was over, and they were headed back to the apartment, yet another blur of everything going on around them.
And come December 15th, Akira and Edward were married at age 22 and 28.
After everyone was gone and all that remained was Akira, Edward, Sato, Sato’s daughter, and one very messy apartment. Akira stated that he was going to get changed before they started to clean up. Sato watched as Akira left to get changed and asked his daughter to start cleaning up some of the rooms to help out her uncles, while he and her uncles had a quick chat.
Edward looked rather confused but nodded to Sato’s request before coming over to the living room and sitting down as they waited for Akira. Honestly, Edward didn’t even want to clean, he just wanted the two family members that weren’t Akira to leave so that they could move on with their wedding night. He didn’t even really want Akira to get changed out of that wedding dress either, but he supposed it couldn’t be helped.
Soon enough Akira was back and sitting on the couch when he heard that Sato had something to say to them.
“Here,” Sato said and handed Akira a large envelope. “This is my wedding present to you two. And before you open it, it’s really nothing in the price, just in the meaning, that’s all.”
Akira looked confused before he opened the envelope. His eyes went wide “Sato-“
“Ah! I said it was nothing in the price and by that I mean, our parents well… they had some money left over after they died, and though I would have loved to use it for you going to college, it seems you aren’t destined for that, so I used it to pay the house off. It’s all yours.”
“Sato, no, you… you could have used that on Mary,” he said, glancing over to the little girl who was diligently cleaning up the apartment, though she wasn’t making too much headway.
“It was left to us, Akira. Plus, I’ve been paying off the house for a while now, didn’t really want to get rid of it. I understand if you want to. But anyway, the deeds in your name now. So you can do what you want with it. If you choose to sell it that’s fine, or you can live in it, it’s up to you. Mary and I are happy where we are, so don’t worry about that. Plus, I’ve been saving up and there is still some money left over to give to Mary.”
Akira licked his lips and looked to Edward, he wasn’t really sure what he should do. Edward nodded, “I’m willing to live there if you are. It’s your parents’ house, so I can understand if it doesn’t feel right.”
Akira gave a weak smile, Edward still didn’t know how his parents had died, he never bothered telling him. This wasn’t just his parents’ house, this was also where they were killed. He licked his lips and looked over to his brother. “Thank you, Sato. We can at the very least take a look at the old place. If we like it, why not right?” he said and got up to hug his brother. “Thank you so much, Sato,” he whispered to his brother, “I know this wasn’t easy.”
