James beckons me over to a tree. I walk over to his side as he points up the tree.
“This will be yours. It’s real big so you’ll have a lot of room for whatever, ya know?” he was cheesing like an idiot. Jane came over to join us. I looked around at everyone and then back up at the treehouse.
[There’s eight?]
“Why are there eight treehouses? There are six of you, so who used to live in the other two?” as soon as Jane asked the question he turned and looked at Astrid. Then he raised his arm and pointed at a bracelet on his wrist.
“We made a pact together that we wouldn’t talk about what happened. But I guess I can tell you their names. The twins Maison and Addison used to live in the two empty houses. They aren’t around anymore so...you and your sister can have their rooms. You guys should go get settled in and then come back to the campfire, yeah?” I nodded, not trying to overstep it.
[Let’s go up and unpack. Keep that bookbag close.] She nodded and we helped each other bring our things up the trees.
Once I stepped foot through the door the smell of pine and honey filled my nose. I look around and find a bed, a dresser, and a desk. I went over to the dresser and began to put away my belongings. I was almost finished when I opened the bottom drawer and found a knife. I was curious, but if I brought it up to the group they might take it and shut me down. I wanted to keep it, so I just hid it under my clothes. Then I heard a knock on the door.
