“I like you” in a whisper which is followed by silence. That goes on for what feels like hours “say something” Grace says holding my hands.
Okay, let’s go back a few hours before what feels like a dream happened.
“Hey, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but what the hell was his problem. He should never talk to you like that,” I say waving my finger around.
“Yeah, I know. And he never will,” Grace says looking me square in my eyes.
“Yeah, he’s crap…. Wait what? What does that mean? You guys patched it up?” I say hopping up on the bed.
Tears start to fall from her face. “I’m sorry… I just dumped him,” Grace covers her face.
“Wow! You must have cared for him… a lot.” I hop closer to her and pull her into a hug, “Don’t cry, He’s crap anyway.”
“It’s not that,” she says, pushing me away to wipe her eyes. “It’s just hard.”
“What is?” I say.
“Dating,” She grabs a tissue nearby and blows into it.
“Okay? What about it though,” I say trying to search her face.
“I never feel full or happy in them,” Grace says, lowering her head.
“Makes sense we are still young. It’s hard to find THE ONE,” I say still trying to figure out what she is saying.
“That’s the problem! I believe I already found THE ONE,” She giggles, blowing her nose right after “And I think that’s why my previous relationships never work.”
My heart sinks. “Oh,” I say. Who is this person? Which one of her relationships is she talking about?
Giving my best support, I don’t show my disappointment. I don’t want to hear anymore but what kind of friend would I be to just walk out.
“Are you going to tell me who? Should I help you get together? Why are you telling me this?” I say, my heart racing even faster.
“Sorry, I’m getting excited,” I choke up.
“Well, it’s embarrassing,” Grace says looking to the right side, staring at the lamp on the nightstand.
“It's fine. You know everything embarrassing about me,” I say.
“Yeah, and I love them” She pauses “Like I like... you.” Grace says staring into my eyes.
