Fang took a step back and Corea stumbled backward. He looked back over his shoulder to her, not taking his face from the approach if he could manage it.
"Stay back, Corea. Go for the knees if you are attacked."
Corea took a few more steps back, her dagger raised.
Fang growled as he gripped the sword with both his massive, furred hands. He took a deep breath as he moved into the Triserian military's engagement stance. His right foot was planted as he slid his left foot perpendicular to it, pointed toward the point of attack. His back was straight and his sword was held aloft above his breast, positioned back toward his right foot, prepared for a massive swing. The first swing.
The old training served him well.
It was then that Fang unleashed his own hellish noise. A piercing howl reverberated throughout the chamber and echoed across old stone. Corea yelped in shock and stumbled backward. Alwynn cringed and nearly doubled over, supporting himself on the stone coffin. The ghouls were unmoved, but the howl wasn't for them.
Fang took three large steps toward the ghoul furthest toward his right, his sword held aloft, perpendicular to his body. With a sudden motion, the sword snapped back as his massive frame twisted. A sudden release of pressure led to a horizontal slice that bisected the ghoul instantaneously. The lower torso tumbled to the ground, aflame, and the top had been carried by the motion and hurled against a wall to his left. The corpse was a crumpled heap aflame.
Fang began to work his way through the remainder of the attackers as Alwynn began a hasty summoning spell. Corea watched in awe.
Corea stood at the ready, not taking her eyes off the scene before her. She didn't hear the clattering of bones until they were upon her and she turned to see a decayed warrior looming over her, his ax poised to strike.
Corea threw herself forward as the ax came down, missing her. Her dagger landed a few feet in front of her as she lost her grip in the dodge. She scrambled into a crawl to grab the dagger but a heavy soldier's boot came down hard on her ankle. The sickening snap and a shooting pain caused her to scream in agony, but her hand had reached the dagger. She took it into her hand and twisting around thrust it deep into the knee of the ghoul.
The ghoul fell over to the side, its balance lost and Corea scrambled over to it as it tried to stabilize itself against the chamber floor. She limply crawled over to it, throwing her weight on it, and bringing the dagger down into the side of the thin-skinned head.
She did not stop stabbing until it stopped moving.
