When the next afternoon came, I dressed in one of my normal suits. It was quite painful to get on with my shoulder, but I had managed. I did not need to make a coffee here, I was going to grab one in town. I needed groceries and a few other things I had been putting of grabbing because I hadn't had the will to pick them up. But, right now the only thing I wanted was the get the hell out of here and away from all this shit. At least for a few hours. Tucking my phone into my pocket I wondered if my car had any gas in it. It had been quite a while since I had driven it. Normally I took one of the standard SUVs because we had more than a dozen of them. We had eighteen of them if you wanted to be exact.
Slipping a pair of dress shoes on my feet, I snagged my car keys off the hook. I waited for my lock to flip behind me before I started to walk down the hall. Zev and Emerson were chatting in the hallway. Zev had one of his nieces on his hip and Emerson had Ares. They had just been in the pool in the side yard based on the fact they were both dripping wet.
"Oh Alexi, Maddox is looking for you," Emerson said softly.
"Ok, thanks, I'll go see what he wanted."
I was not about to go see what he wanted. I had other things I wanted, right now that was to get the hell out of this place. I needed an expensive coffee and fresh air.
however, that was not going to be my day. Before I even got to the garage, my good arm was grabbed and I was kindly turned around and pulled back to his office by the man I didn't want to see himself, Maddox.
"Sit. We need to have a long chat Alexi,"
"If this is about me hitting you, I got it, a bad judgement call. It will not happen again. You don't have to worry about it."
"Actually, no this is about Creed----"
"Maddox spare me whatever you're going to say. I don't have the time to deal with his shit."
"Alexi, I was speaking."
"Right. My bad."
"As I was saying. Creed is going to be allowed to leave the medic wing tonight, There are quite a few things he is not supposed to do with his wound but it's all standard. I'm sure you can figure out how to do the rest of the shit he needs."
I looked at Maddox.
"Please don't take this as me stepping out of line Maddox, But that's your job, not mine. He is not my job. He is a grown-ass man and can look after himself. I'm too busy."
"Alexi."
"Nope, find somewhere else to stick him,"
"Alexi, what the hell is going on with you and Creed?"
"With all due respect Maddox, I am a grown-ass man with my own problems. I don't need his shit too. I don't fucking care, I'm done with that shit."
"Alright, yeah. I'll see if he can bunk with Cade."
"Can I go, I have plans to do some shit."
"You're free to go."
The truth was I was still pretty livid about him screaming at me. Nothing he said was wrong but he had never yelled at me before. It wasn't something I had expected from him, Never had I expected that. Not from him. Mentally I was more of a mess than I wanted to admit, but that was pretty much how it was for me every day.
My uncle was checking over all the cars when I got back into the garage. He took one look at me and went back to what he was doing. Hitting the pin for the other side of the garage where all our vehicles were stored I heard my uncle say something.
"Huh? Did you say something?"
"Yeah, I said, your car is cleaned and full of gas, Oil filters changed, everything is tip-top shape."
"Thanks,"
"Hey, Alexi we should talk with that doctor--- Zev at some point, yeah."
"Right. Thanks again for looking after my car."
Hitting the garage opener, I walked to my car. It looked well maintained even though I hardly did a fucking thing to make it that way. Other people made sure it was safe to drive and clean. Other people always made sure to take care of everything in my life. Unlocking my car I slid into the driver's seat. I gave my head a shake over how weird the conversation had been with uncle. Never had things been so mellow between us. I had thanked him for looking after my car but that wasn't the weird thing. He had maintained my car, that was the weird thing. Not to even touch on the fact he wanted to talk to me, with Zev.
Starting my car it came to life right away. Hitting the sunglass holder I pulled out my sunglasses and slipped them on my face. Backing out of the garage I passed Cade who was pulling in. I felt bad for Cade when he found out he was going to be sharing his space with Creed. Poor fucker. The guards at the gates didn't even hesitate to open them for me. After all, I was the only one who owned a white car in the entire complex.
The drive into town was pretty decent. I stopped for coffee first. My wait in the drive-through was short, so I was grateful for that, but I really needed a potent cup of coffee.
The coffee was bitter and just what I was looking for to make my day better. Getting groceries was what I should have been doing but it was like my pet peeve, I hated buying groceries. So I left that to the last thing I was going to do. The medic wing needed better coffee, and I needed new bedding and pillows for my bed, along with some new workout stuff.
My phone rang. Looking at the console of my car it was my Nonna. Lunch it was then. I could really use some of her home cooking.
