Once he got home, he hurried into the kitchen and started on dinner “sorry about being late, Edward!” he called, “I was out at the bridal store, I decided on a dress after all!” he called back, “it’s really pretty, I think you’ll like it. The store is even throwing in the alteration in for free, they thought it was so cute that I came in looking for a dress. Though, they do want to have some pictures…” he said, rambling on, he didn’t even notice the man that had been with Edward. “Edward?” he called again when he didn’t get a response. He stopped his cooking and headed out into the living room; pretty sure he had seen Edward there.
Edward glanced to Hiroki and then back towards the rushing Akira. “Akira,” he said when Akira finally came back to the living room. “I want you to meet Hiroki,” he said, “since we kept saying the wedding would be soon, I figured we should get to know each other’s family a little bit…” he explained, “I mean, I just realized that we never really got to know one another’s family, and I think that’s kind of important, don’t you?”
Akira stopped in his tracks when he saw Hiroki, “hello,” he said, offering his hand. “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Akira, um, Edward’s fiancée,” he introduced himself, even though Edward had already said his name.
“Hello, Akira. I do hope you’ve been taking care of my friend here. That and he hasn’t been causing you too much trouble,” Hiroki said and took Akira’s hand, shaking it. “I’m glad to finally meet you. He’s said so much about you, you look exactly how I imagined.”
Akira looked from Edward to Hiroki and gave a slightly awkward smile. Something felt off about Hiroki, he just couldn’t place it. He gave the other a quick nod before they stopped shaking hands “Are you staying for dinner, Hiroki? I can make sure to add some in for you, not a problem.”
Hiroki nodded “that would be great, as long as it’s not too much trouble.”
“No trouble at all,” Edward interjected before Akira could say anything. “Akira, why don’t you go finish dinner and we’ll talk more over it?”
Akira glanced to Edward and nodded, “Yeah, okay,” he said as he hurried off to the kitchen and finished the preparations for dinner.
Hiroki looked over to Edward, “there was no need to shoo him off, Edward.”
“I know, I just, I wanted to talk to you first, before he got started in on asking a ton of questions of you. Mainly because I don’t want you accidentally slipping up and telling something I haven’t told him about me yet.”
“Like…”
“Like the… well you know the thing that happened when I was 16. And the other thing, that I sort of promised him, but haven’t really been holding up to?” he whispered, slipping into French. Hiroki knew enough that he could do this.
Hiroki glanced towards the way that Akira when and slipped into French as well, “Ah, I see. You know I understand the first part, but the second you really shouldn’t be doing. It would technically be a breach of your vows to each other, which means if there would be a divorce he would have legal grounds-“
“Seriously, Hiroki? You are going to go all lawyer on me?” Edward said.
Hiroki chuckled, “rest assured Edward, I’m not going to ‘go all lawyer on you' I’m just saying, it would be better to stop.”
“Well, we’re never going to leave each other, so it’s not going to matter.”
“Did you ever think that this might cause you two to leave each other?” Hiroki asked, arching his eyebrow when Edward didn’t answer, “I see… well, carry on then,” he said and shook his head.
“Boys, dinner is ready!” Akira called from the kitchen.
“It smells amazing, Akira!” Hiroki called as he moved from the living room to the kitchen and sat down, leaving Edward to contemplate what he had said.
After a short time, Akira headed back into the living room to check on Edward, “Edward?” he said, as he moved up to the man and touched his chest, “something wrong?”
“Hmm?” Edward snapped out of his daze and looked down at Akira, placing his hand over Akira’s “No, just got lost in thought, that’s all,” he said and leaned down to kiss the man.
Akira kissed back briefly, “come on, let’s go eat, I’m starving, and I’m assuming you didn’t even hear the news.”
“I heard something about pictures. I thought we were keeping those kinds of pictures to ourselves,” Edward teased the other.
“We are, we are, these aren’t those kinds of pictures,” Akira laughed and pulled Edward into the kitchen. As they all sat down to eat Akira told, the boys the news, though he was a bit embarrassed to say it all in front of Hiroki. After the news, they turned to talking about one another and enjoying their time together. Akira was still wavering over how he felt about Hiroki, something continued to feel off about the man, but he did his best to try and wave that feeling away.
