They arrived at the training center, somewhat eager to practice with weapons. But all the eagerness flew out the window when they saw their competitors. As the instructor was explaining the rules and stuff, they inspected their fellow tributes.
“This is the training room. As you all know, you will train here for the next few days before you go into the arena. My advice for you is, don’t ignore the survival skills. Everyone wants to grab a weapon, but most of you will die from natural causes such as dehydration and infection. Exposure can kill as easily as a knife.” The training lady said.
And with that, everyone went and trained. Skyla watched a career tribute from district 2 skillfully disarm and stab a robot in the heart.
“That girl looks insane.” Skyla thought.
Meanwhile, Zack was learning how to build a fire from two twigs. It took him five tries before he could successfully make a small fire. He grinned as he warmed up his frozen hands. Just as he was about to pack up the sticks a tall and muscular boy kicked his things.
“Nice sticks dweeb.” The boy sneered.
“Leave me alone, fat muscle dude.” Zack retorted.
“So that's how you wanna play huh? Fine. Watch your back in the arena. You’ll be my first kill. The boy smiled evilly and went to practice with his career friends.
Zack shuddered as he re-gathered his things.
“I really hope he didn't mean that..” he thought.
Zack went off to find Skyla and found her shooting arrows in the bow and arrow training box. He was amazed at what she could do. His gaze lingered around the room. He saw an array of tributes training with weapons, learning survival skills, chatting, and lifting heavy things. He particularly watched a muscular, brunette dude practicing with his trident. Zack assumed he was from district 4 because that was a fishing district, and they used tridents. He watched the boy carefully, just in case he could pick up some extra moves. The boy saw him watching and turned away quickly. Embarrassed, Zack went over to Skyla to chat.
“So, how has your training been?” he asked.
“Oh, not bad. I managed to pick up some cool moves.” Skyla responded.
“Did you see that dude over there? He's so good!”
“Oh yeah I did. He is really good. Kinda cute too.” Skyla blushed.
“OoOoOoOoO U LIKE HIM!” Zack screeched quietly so he wouldn't draw too much attention.
“Oh shut up boi.”
“ALRIGHT BOIS AND GURLS TIME FOR YOUR LUNCH BREAK.” the trainer announced.
Everyone went back to their dorms for lunch. Skyla and Zack walked and talked on the way to Effie and Haymitch, who were waiting in the dining hall.
