I couldn’t stand it anymore. This secret was eating alive. Every day he sat there and looked at me with those knowing eyes, hugged me with those murderous hands, and spoke to me with the voice he’d never use to plead guilty. That was it. I got up late one night and packed my things. I woke Jane and told her to get her things. She smiled and jumped out of bed.
“We should have done this sooner.” I nodded my head in agreement. She quickly dressed and packed some of her things and her phone. We quietly slipped down the stairs to the front door. After we made it there we didn’t care about the noise. I flung the door open and we both ran as fast as we could, never looking back. At that moment, as the wind whipped across my face, every memory I had of my mother came rushing through my head all at once. He had taken her from us and lied to everyone about it. He lied so much that he believed it himself. He’s completely insane. I had to do something. I did something. Before waking Jane, I'd gone downstairs turned the gas on, and lit a candle next to my father's room. He can never hurt anyone again. I won’t allow it. We made it a few blocks before we heard a big explosion behind us. We both come to a halt and spin around to see where the sound comes from. I knew what it was, but I didn't want Jane to know what I'd done. Our home is gone now, but it’s all over, we’re safe. He can't ever hurt anyone else again. He's where he belongs now, thanks to me. I guess that means that someday I'll be joining him. It doesn't matter right now though, because right now it feels like it was all worth it. Everything was going to be just fine now.
