A month after my unexpected royal duty, another monthly dinner was held. This time, I didn’t interrupt the conversation and didn’t talk unless spoken to. Father called us again to his study that night to report about the young duke’s case. Brother Lothario and Brother Azraq did as I told them to, and the chickenpox was prevented in the capital. However, chickenpox had already spread outside the capital. Due to the impending epidemic, the three of us became busy and it left me no choice but to contact Mariana- or should I call Kismet now.
Smiling ear-to-ear, she greeted me. “Thank god, you decided to contact me.”
“Considering you're the god of this world, it’s kinda weird hearing you say that.”
“But you’re my god, you created me, remember?”
“That’s even weirder.” I pushed her head away from me from trying to hug me. “Anyways, I need your help. I need to know how to stop the epidemic.”
“The chickenpox?”
“Yeah, do you have any ideas to stop it? Cure?”
“Nope. This world relies so much on magic that medicine and technology here aren’t that advanced. Why study medicine when you can just put your hand on the wound and heal it?”
“So you’re of no help? I gotta go then.”
“Wait! I’ll help you. You can ask me anything and I’ll try to look for possible answers that are available in this world so don’t go.”
“Okay, good to hear that.” I smiled secretly. “I need something that might help us stop the epidemic; chamomile is only a temporary cure, I need something like a pill or tablet that patients can take. I need something that can be used in the long term.”
“Uh-huh, I understand. I’ll help you but I don’t think I can be of that much help. I may be the creator of this world but I can’t just make things pop up or do miracles just because I want to. But I promise you that I’ll help you with all I can.”
“Call me when you have something for me.”
“I will. Although I have something that might help you for now. At the Royal Library, you’ll see a book titled Casadana. It’s a story about a woman who traveled the world to look for her sick father’s illness. It’s a good children's book that got banned decades ago but was still popular among commoners.”
I nodded. “... hey, did you say you cannot make miracles?”
“Sadly, no. Although I can assist people, miracles happen based on people’s actions. I can only guide people to what action they should take- instinct, intuition, premonition, whatever you call it.”
“So no otherworldly happenings?”
“Haven’t tried it, I never interfered with this world because I didn’t see the need to do so.”
“But if you try, you can?”
“Maybe. Why?”
I smiled. For the first time ever, I ran towards her and hugged her tight.
“Woah, wait! What did I do? Did I do something good?”
“Yes, yes! Finally!” I looked her in the eye, “I need your help, different from this one.”
