They both were never really sure why they continued to meet up with each other. But Akira and Edward, kept seeing each other, mostly because Edward kept coming over to the café and would insist on smoking inside unless Akira went with him somewhere that night or took him home. Akira never really seemed to mind all that much. Edward was a fun fuck, especially once he seemed to get the hang of it. Akira had never said a word about how Edward had messed up a few times, Edward just seemed to watch Akira’s every move. Akira assumed that the man was doing research or something because he did get better over time and soon, they were able to screw like rabbits and Akira would be fine.
The relationship stayed in the friends with benefits zone for a while, until one day Edward asked Akira out on an actual date after they had had sex.
“Stop laughing!” Edward said, looking a bit pissed off, “I’m serious. I want a proper date. I want to take you for dinner at a nice restaurant and then maybe out for dancing or a movie. Then I want to walk you home and give you a kiss and then head home myself. No sex, no improper actions, just a nice date out. Dressed to the nines and everything,” he said, nodding, sure of himself.
Akira wiped the tears from his eyes that he had gotten from laughing so hard. “Okay, okay. You win, we’ll go on a date. An actual date,” he said, “weirdo,” he mumbled under his breath.
Edward smiled at that and finally went to sleep. This was another thing they had started without either of them realizing it. Edward stayed over at Akira’s more and more often through the months. Granted, he never stayed more than one night. He was always gone by the afternoon of the next day.
The next day was no different. Edward left after lunch and kissed Akira on the cheek “So, Friday. You don’t have work then or Saturday right?” he asked.
Akira nodded, “nope, two glorious days off in a row!” he said and smiled, “Why?”
Edward looked a bit hurt when the man didn’t remember what they had talked about the night before “because I was thinking that we could go on the date then. I’ll come here around six and we can go out for dinner. Is that still okay?” he asked.
Akira looked a bit taken aback, he remembered, he just really didn’t think that Edward was serious about going out. He bit his lip; this was getting more serious than he thought it would. “Um… Edward, I don’t know, I mean, we have such a good relationship now, don’t we?” he asked.
Edward sighed, “yeah, I won’t say it’s bad, but at the same time… I want more Akira. I’m sorry if this is pushing you, but I really do want to go on an actual date. If it doesn’t work out than it doesn’t work out and we can go back to what we normally do. But come on Akira, this one-night stand as been going on for six months now!”
Akira fidgeted, “okay. Fine. We’ll go out on Friday at six,” he said, looking down at his feet. He wasn’t sure about this at all. It could mean that they would move even further in their relationship. Perhaps Edward was developing feelings for him. Akira didn’t want that, Akira didn’t feel like he deserved love like that, but here he was with Edward and other than not going on an actual date they were pretty much in a relationship.
Edward seemed satisfied with that and headed out of the apartment.
