In my room, I decided to call Virgile while eating. Virgile was my best friend among humans and werewolves compounded. Not that I was permitted to have much relationships with full human. It only rang twice before he answered “Hey”.
“Hey, you busy?” I asked him before taking a bite of the toast.
I heard a bit of rustling before he said “A bit, but what’s up?”
“Well, I am bored because I fought with my parents, they set up an arranged date with Justice” There was a bit of silence before I added sighing “You are lucky, at least your parents aren’t insisting much….”
Both me and Virgile didn’t exactly fit the mould of the werewolves’ ideal, by the fact that we both didn’t want to get married to some strangers and that we didn’t like the so-called justified werewolves’ hierarchy. Virgile’s parents were more understanding than mine and he was being less pressured in general, though…
Because he is an alpha
Virgile cut my daydreaming by saying “Rem, I know what you are thinking - and it may be partially true but that's the case for anybody standing up for themselves”
It was true but it didn’t change the fact that this was annoying, I voiced my thoughts, "It’s freaking annoying”
He chuckled “Obviously. I’m sorry but I need to go, my mom really wants me to help her, try to make peace with your parents and don’t go or stay to the next date they set up. You know them, they wouldn’t drag you there by force.”
“Yeah bye," I dismissed him "Say hello to your mom!”
“Talk to you later”
After the call, we spoke a little bit by messages to plan our next meeting because we hadn’t hang out since the beginning of the school break.
A few minutes later, I went to the kitchen because I was still hungry. My plate was cellophane-wrapped. My dad must have heard me because he came silently to the kitchen and walked up to me.
He hugged me from the back hesitantly and said “Look I am sorry, okay? I didn’t think a date would anger you that much”
I turned myself to face him and hugged him back “Alright” I knew that they really thought that it was the best for me. They cared about me.
“I must inform you, that we already agreed to have diner with Justice and his family - and you know I can’t cancel them like that without any valid reason”
I knew that Justice’s family were a quite dignified family which you couldn’t cancel without reason "Okay but no more surprise dates after this, ok?”
“Ok!” my papa says cheerfully
He lowered my head to kiss my forehead “Who were you speaking to on the phone?”
“Virgile to vant a little” I said sheepishly
My dad stayed quiet a bit, so I loosened my embrace to look down at him. His expression was strange so I asked him “What do you want to say? Just say it”
He laughed “Nothing it’s just that often when his name is coming up some memories are also coming up - quite traumatic ones”
I flushed, I was embarrassed and got away from him “Ugh! don’t think about it, it’s awkward!”
My father entered the kitchen at this moment “What is awkward?”
“Speaking about Virgile first’s…official meeting?” my dad answered seemingly searching very hard for the best way to formulate it.
By the look on his face, my father seemed to understand, which made my dad chuckled harder while saying “Oh gosh, it was indeed awkward, and unforgettable for the vivid image of your dear father almost collapsing. He was so pale. Right honey?”
“Well, you can’t blame me! I was rightfully surprised…” my father answered while starting to smile sheepishly.
A year back, my parents caught me in positions with Virgile.
I am still grateful they didn’t take it too badly. Yes, they were understandably shocked at first, but they didn’t overwhelmed me. Didn’t even tell me mean things which would be the case for most omegas if their parents had caught them in the same situation.
It’s when I remember things like this that I know they care about me, even if they can be annoying sometimes.
And that I care about them too. A lot.
