Steven and his siblings were getting ready to go back to school in a couple weeks and Pearl's teaching holo seemed to know. she told Page to get a mirror out of her gem and see if she could get it to work. It knew more about the workings of Homeworld than she did. Page meditated and pulled out the mirror, showing everyone. The face of the mirror was flawless, but the blue teardrop gem in the back was cracked. The Holo pearl mentioned that the gem in the back of the mirror, a Lapis Lazuli, powered it, and that it might take some time before it became active again, it had been stored for quite some time. Bismuth took it and asked to see the galaxy warp, but nothing happened. She handed it back and sent the kids off to wander.
The four took the mirror to the lighthouse, which they used as a park, and tried to ask it questions. Nothing happened, so they propped it up on a rock and went over the material they learned over the summer. After some time they heard their own voices repeating material. Curious they looked at the sounds, which seemed to be coming from the mirror itself. Sure enough, when the repetition would start, the speaker's face would show in the mirror, even though they weren't being reflected in the surface. Eventually it started to rearrange their words to make new phrases, and began explaining more things about Homeworld.
They took the mirror back to the house and explained what they witnessed. Spinel and Bismuth explained it shouldn't be able to create new information. The process of putting a gem in an object normally stops a gem from being, well a gem. The kids voiced that they wanted to try and save the gem inside, since it seemed to still be a person, and that she was trapped. Bismuth advised against it, and went to take the mirror back. It let out a loud sound and Steven moved the mirror out of the way. The kids fled the house into the night.
On the beach, the mirror expressed that it did want to be freed and showed how to take the gem out of the mirror. Page obliged and once the gem left it's casing it started to glow a faint blue and formed into a blue woman with short hair, a halter dress, with the gem affixed to her back. Once formed, she turned to the kids with mirrored eyes, and thanked them. The children introduced themselves in turn, and told her that they knew she was a Lapis. The introductions ended just as the gems reached the beach. Lapis looked at the gems, and fixated on Bismuth. Recognizing Lapis, Bismuth held the others back. Lapis ran into the water, leaving everyone in the dark. Bismuth explained that she had poofed that specific Lapis in the war, and didn't want to bring up any bad memories if the Lapis remembered her.
Steven and Page were upset to lose a new friend, but Sophie predicted that they'd see her again soon. Everyone went back into the house, meeting Greg for supper. The kids left for bed and the gems went into the temple o prepare for a fight. Lazulis were fierce if they had to protect themselves, and with one on the loose, it was only a matter of time.
