Sam’s POV
He pulled back to look me in the eyes and nodded slightly before licking my sore cheek gently. Then he sat up and looked over at the two wolves who were watching us. Suddenly they looked familiar to me as well. Those were the same two that chased me before.
But something else caught my eye as I looked between the two of them. There wasn't a dead wolf lying next to them anymore. It was the man from before again. Naked, his throat ripped open, and a huge hole in his chest where his heart should be. He was laying on his side facing us as the blood pooled around him faster than it could mix in with the rain.
"B- but h- how? You're a-a wolf an- and h- he was just a w- wolf?" I sniffled a little, confused and feeling so overwhelmed as Emmett looked back at me. He started moving close again with a small whine as he rubbed his nose against my cheek in a comforting way before we heard tires screech to a stop behind us.
He pulled away and looked up quickly, eyes glowing again with an angry growl as I looked over my shoulder to see the doors fly open on the big black van now blocking the opening. Three men and two women jumped out holding guns. I quickly jumped to my feet, legs shaking from trying to outran that wolf as I stepped back closer to Emmett. Thankfully my arm had stopped bleeding but my shoulder won't heal with it still dislocated.
They were all wearing armored black leather clothes but my eyes stopped at one of the men. He was bigger than the rest with a buzz cut to his dark-colored hair. He looked familiar for some reason and his dark eyes were right on me.
He smiled big like he recognized me before he started laughing loudly. "Well, well, well," he chuckled. "Call the doc. Tell her we just found an even bigger prize. Tell her we just found Samual Wheeler… alive."
I looked at him in confusion as I stepped back. How did he know who I was? And what did he mean by ‘found me alive’?
I saw him take out a smaller handgun and my body went into shock as I looked at it. My head suddenly started throbbing. It hurt so bad I looked down as everything started to blur.
I closed my eyes and it happened so fast in a flash. That man was standing in front of me with a gun, that same gun, laughing but I couldn't move. The rain, the sound of screams coming from nearby, running water even closer, the smell of blood filling the air, my cries as I begged him to stop. Then the bang of the gun.
I opened my eyes feeling like I was falling and looked at him in fear holding myself and shaking even more. What the hell was that? Emmett growled at them and stepped in front of me as I stumbled back a little more.
"It's him alright. Forget the useless spider, he failed anyway. Take the boy instead," the man yelled as all their guns turned to me at once ready to fire.
Me? Why me? "Emmett," I said low and full of terror but panicked as I took another step back. I didn't want to go with those people. Bad things would happen if I did, I just knew it. They were not friendly, and I was not safe here.
Emmett looked back at me quickly, ears down, I could hear the other two wolves behind us growling and barking at the people. Emmett looked back at them and then at me and before I had time to do anything Emmett dove between my legs and threw me high in the air as the gunfire started filling the air.
I yelled as I felt myself start falling again flipping over, facing the top of the fence but before I hit the top of it I landed on something hard with red fur underneath me. I grabbed ahold of it quickly, pulled his fur hard as he yelped, and landed on the ground on the other side of the fence but he didn't stop. He took off fast as I held on for dear life with one hand, laying against his back.
The ground and building all flow by in a blur as I looked to the side as carefully as I could so I didn't fall off, keeping my head against the wolf's back. The dark brown wolf was next to us running fast as the gunfire faded in the background but a spark hit the ground between us making them jump to the side a little.
Where is Emmett? I looked back as best as I could but didn't see him. "What about Emmett?" I yelled loud so the wolves could both hear me.
The brown one looked back like he could understand me but Emmett still wasn't there. He whimpered a little but they didn't stop as they made their way through the alleys as I tightened my grab.
I hoped he was okay. I didn't want him to get hurt or even killed because of me.
A huge box truck with the back open towards us was parking in the entrance just before the street and they jumped in the back quickly as a woman closed the door behind us.
"Where is Alpha?" She asked in a panic, looking out the small window on the door. The red and blond wolf laid down and I rolled off onto the floor holding my arm, breathing fast. I still couldn't wrap my head around all that just happened.
"He's distracting the hunters," a deep voice said as I sat up and looked to see who it was.
I immediately regretted that decision. The brown wolf was gone and in its place was a huge muscular dark-skinned man completely naked. I looked right at it without meaning to and good god he was huge. My face got hot fast.
He looked over and saw me, wide eyes in shock as I was looking forward to avoiding it. "Oh, sorry kid. Forgot you humans get weird around naked bodies." He laughed and threw on his pants.
"Hunters? Here in the city?" She asked as she turned around. Worry filled her voice.
The red wolf next to me also changed into a human with light milky skin and long messy light red and blond hair, the same color as his wolf. Again he was also naked and I quickly looked down at the ground not wanting to see that in my face as well and most likely redder than a tomato. He quickly got dressed.
"We have to go. Emmett said to meet him at 24th street," the redhead said and got into the driver's seat.
"You brought Sam with you!" The woman smiled with joy as she dropped down in front of me as I started to shake, the shock of everything was starting to wear off, leaving me on the verge of a full-blown freakout. She moved close as the truck started moving.
I looked up at her for the first time, scared of her movements. She was pretty with pale, milky white skin and deep red dreadlocks. Her nose had a hoop in the middle and so did her eyebrow but her eyes had a white fog over them making them look almost completely white with a hint of what looked like blue eyes underneath. Was she blind? If she was blind then how did she know I was here right in front of her? I haven't said anything and now I was more confused.
"You're alpha's-," she started with a huge smile on her face but the dark-skinned man put a large hand on her shoulder to stop her.
"That's not your place to say that, Viv. Leave him to gather his thoughts," he said as her smile faded a little.
The woman, Viv, looked at me with pity in her clouded eyes but she looked right into mine. "But he's scared, Brian. I'm only trying to comfort him." She moved closer and looked at my arm before taking off her red scarf to make it into a quick homemade sling so I didn't have to hold it anymore.
After she was done she quickly wrapped her arms around me, being careful to not hit my shoulder as I sat there curled into myself.
I tensed up as she hugged me, the big guy, Brian, also tensed behind her, watching my every move closely but Viv started rubbing her cheek against mine, holding me with love and care, happy as could be.
The truck made a sharp turn and Viv tightened her grip around me to keep me from flying around in the back and I found myself oddly calm there, I felt so warm and safe as I started to hug her back with my good arm. Then we all flew towards the front of the truck as the man driving slammed on the brakes without warning and quickly started backing up the truck. The whole thing bounced around for a minute before Brian threw open the back door.
We were all quiet as we stepped over to the opening and looked down the empty alleyway waiting for something to happen.
"Where is he?" The redhead asked, jumping in the back with us. He looked at me and then my shoulder before quickly popping it back into place again.
I almost dropped to the ground with a scream from the pain.
Viv punched his shoulder. "That was rude brother. You should have warned him first."
I gritted my teeth in pain as he just shrugged his shoulders. "Looked like it needed to be fixed. Plus if I would have done that he would have tensed and it would have hurt more," he said calmly like it was no big thing for him. “Sorry about-,”
We heard gunshots in the distance that cut off his words and a loud wolf-like yelp. We all snapped our attention to the alleyway.
"Emmett!" I yelled, forgetting all about my pain, and tried to run out of the box truck to him. My heart hurt as an incredible pain took over my whole body. He was hurt, I knew it. I could feel it in every bone in my body and all I could think about was getting to him.
