Sam’s POV
It was almost noon the next day. Before I made my way here I looked through all my clothes to find the best ones I owned so I didn't stand out too much among all the rich people.
People around here really were snobby with the most expensive-looking clothes and shoes I've ever seen. Girls carried little dogs in their purses with phones glued to their hands and didn't even look my way once. Most of the guys were old and wore nice suits, making them look like businessmen. I definitely felt more out of place.
It took me a while to find the only payphone on this street but when I did I stood close by and waited since I didn't have a phone to look at the time, I wasn't sure what time it was and knew none of these people would stop to give me the time if I asked.
It wasn't too cold as people sat outside enjoying probably the last warm day before the cold fall really started to set in.
The phone started ringing making me jump. I hurried to the booth and picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Sammy. So glad you could make it. I can't get any closer so this is where you come in. Over to the left, you will see people outside eating close by in front of a white building. You see them?"
I looked over and saw the white brick building at the corner with a small open sitting area. Not too many people were there. With a glance, I would guess around 10 or 15 in total.
"Yes."
"Good boy. A man is sitting there in a black long sleeve dress shirt on, skinny, black hair brushed back nicely. You can see the tattoos on his neck and hands. Sitting with him are two men. A dark-skinned man and a reddish blonde haired man. You see them?"
I looked over, quickly scanning around but found them early. The two men sitting with him were huge and rough-looking. They stood out the most and looked like they could kill me with one punch but all those muscles would weigh them down too much if things went wrong. I could easily outrun them, no matter how much they worked out. I didn't have to worry about the man either. He would send those bodyguards after me to do his dirty work. I mean, that’s what he paid them for anyways.
"Yeah. I see them," I told him.
"Good boy. Take the man's phone and go quickly. I'll find you later to get it. Sammy… just take the phone and go as fast as you can without drawing attention. Don't stop for any reason. I'll be watching but I won't be able to help you if you screw this up. You’re on your own from here. Good luck Sammy," he said and hung up the phone.
Okay, just take and go. I got this. Easy.
I sat down on a bench nearby keeping an eye on them from a distance but not directly looking at them. My attention was finding where his phone was and where he put it when he got up to leave.
They sat there and ate their food and talked for a little while before I saw him pick up his phone from the table to look at it. The man then stood and put it in his back pocket as the other two got up with him. Perfect place for me to take it.
I got up and started that way as they paid the waiter. Feeling the watch I took last night in my pocket, I got an idea. I was going to sell it for some cash but I needed a distraction as I pulled it out of my pocket.
My eyes fell on the few girls sitting nearby. They were talking and giggling about who knows what and looking at their phones. They were all dolled up and looking snobby as hell. I smiled.
As soon as I walked up and was in line with the three men I quickly threw the watch over my head at the girls and kept walking.
The watch shattered one of the glasses on the table and all four girls jumped up screaming. The three men looked over with everyone else's eyes, including mine, to see the huge and loud scene they were making.
At the same time, I walked right into the man in the middle and grabbed his phone with ease as he jumped and turned his attention to me immediately.
"What the fuck!" He said in surprise.
"Shit, I'm so sorry man," I said as I pulled the phone up into my sleeve to hide it. "I heard the girls scream and looked over to see-," this is where I made my first mistake of looking up at him and my voice was taken away, along with my breath.
My eyes looked right into his crystal blue eyes and I was frozen in place. Holy fuck, he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. I was so focused on the phone that I didn't pay attention to what he looked like.
I've always been more focused on getting food or finding money for food that I never really paid attention to anybody's looks before but wow he was just... gorgeous.
He just looked at me almost stunned for a moment as the sun came out showing off the clear blue in his eyes. Wow, it was so mesmerizing to look at and the smell that filled my nose was like nothing I had ever smelled before, putting me in a deeper haze.
I couldn't look away from him as my heart just stopped in my chest as we both just stood there looking at each other. I forgot about everything I was doing, why I was there, and where I was going.
But all good moments must come to an end. Like a bad horror movie, his phone started ringing against my arm, making us both jump out of whatever kind of daze that was. My heart started pounding, hurting my chest as the realization of what was going on hit me. My eyes widened as I gasped.
'Run stupid!' I yelled inside my head as he reached for his back pocket and found nothing there. His eyes grow wide as he looks back at me.
I found my damn legs again and took off as fast as I could. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
"Shit!" I heard him yell. "Get him! He just took my fucking phone!" He yelled, still sounding shocked at what just happened.
I smiled to myself. Just like I thought, he would send the big guys after me. I'd lose them quickly. I ran between a few people, pushing them out of the way as I made it into the alleys. I ran past a delivery truck and squeezed down some small pathways that I knew they couldn't fit in as easily as I could.
Once I thought I was far enough away, I stopped to catch my breath for a moment. Sweating like crazy and hunched over but not even a minute passed before I heard a loud growl come from behind me. I slowly turned around at the sound that made my whole body quiver in fear to see two huge wolves walking down the alley, teeth showing and eyes fixed on me.
"What the fuck!" I yelled in surprise and stumbled back falling to the ground.
They started to run as I turned around scrambling to my feet and took off again.
Wolves! What the hell were wolves doing in the city?
Holy shit. They were on my tail quickly as I quickly cut right down another alley just barely dodging the dark brown one as he jumped for my head.
I kept running as they turned around and headed down the alley after me but that was my second mistake. I was in too much of a panic not thinking straight as I saw a chain-link fence in front of me. I couldn't turn around. I had to go over.
I jumped as high up the fence as I could and quickly hurled myself over, cutting my arm open as I jumped down.
"Ahh," I yelled, landing wrong and falling over. The blood quickly ran down my arm but just as I looked up the wolves both landed on the ground in front of me.
They snapped their teeth at me, growling loud as my back was pinned against the fence.
"Good job boys," I heard someone yell and looked behind the wolves at the man I took the phone from.
My eyes widened as the wolves stopped snapping their massive jaws at me and stepped back, still growling low as he walked down the alley.
He brushed his fingers through his hair and fixed his sleeve as I noticed a little sweat run down his face. He must have ran to keep up with us too.
I leaned even farther back, shaking violently into the fence as he walked right up to me, passing the wolves. I was trapped. This is how I would die. Over some stupid phone.
The man told me not to stop. Just grab the phone and go but I hesitated. It was no one's fault but my own. I should have listened and done what I was told. Now I'm going to die, eaten alive by wolves that were almost as tall as I was, in the middle of a damn city.
I looked down in shame and defeat.
"That... was pretty stupid," he said stopping at my feet and holding out his hand as he tried to hide his heavy breathing. “You just made this unnecessarily complicated.”
I just looked at it before he curled his fingers up in a 'give it to me’ motion. Slowly I reached my shaking hand into my pocket to grab the phone. The light red and blonde colored wolf barked and jumped closer, making me flinch and look over at him scared he was going to bite me.
The man in front of me grabbed my chin hard and ripped my head up, forcing me to look at him. His eyes looked even brighter than before. Almost glowing.
"My phone. Now," he said and I ripped it out of my pocket holding it out for him.
"H- here, take it," I shook out quickly.
His eyes quickly searched my face as he grabbed my wrist that held his phone. I dropped it out of surprise and flinched, closing my eyes as I heard it crash against the ground. Most likely breaking the screen.
"Who are you working for?" He asked, making me jump again as he leaned closer.
I opened my eyes, looking into his again. I didn't know what to say. I was so scared.
"Speak now," he said in a more demanding voice then made me flinch back again. I found myself wanting to tell him everything though.
"I- I don't know," I told him honestly.
"Well that's too bad for you," he leaned in closer, making me gasp and my face start to burn the closer he got.
That same smell as before soon filled my nose. It made me feel weird. It just smelled so good. His nose rubbed against mine slowly, closing his eyes, as he let out the smallest and lowest moan. I would have missed it if I wasn't literally nose to nose with him but it made me feel good to hear. Like I was good enough for him in the weirdest way.
His eyes suddenly shot open, looking into mine, glowing blue. "This is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you." He whispered against my lips before pulling back and letting me go.
He turned around leaving me still in a daze. I didn't even see it coming as something hit me hard in the side of the head and everything quickly faded.
