In yet another night filled with nocturnal melodies, the Fireflies Hills sang a new hymn of blood.
The coniferous forest whispered sounds of moving leaves, stirred earth, and metallic shocks. Shadows ran between the trunks at crazy speed as they moved through the tall grass, cutting the wind like fierce arrows to a marked destination.
There, a beast of great proportions ran through the dark field.
Having a really robust hide and bright red eyes, the Stone Bear chased one of the quickest shadows of that group. It grunted and roared to the target of his furious sight, displaying his large teeth to that identity that triggered it earlier.
"Liriak!" a deep, charged voice screamed through the dashing silhouettes from behind the animal. "Flank it! Let it not escape!"
Upon the utterance of that command, the shadowy pair at the rear soon parted. There, one of the figures gained greater acceleration and soon went ahead with the given order.
That specific member quickly reached his goal: he went around the animal with an extremely straight rush and followed him at the same pace.
In a sudden strike, the silhouette leaped towards the beast.
The shadowy figure knocked the animal out of the way as it managed to push the Stone Bear onto one of the trunks that remained in its path. Unable to guide its weight as it wished, the creature struck its head on the tree.
The Stone Bear was briefly stunned, allowing the three shadows to corner the beast, as they wished.
"Well done, Qurnuk," taking a step forward into the moonlight, the first of the moth-men's faces was revealed. "We've got it surrounded."
With severe features and a short grey haircut, the squad leader frowned as he clenched his fist on his double-edged sword's hilt. Having eighteen years old and being the oldest of the group, he knew he should be keeping his guard up for the following combat.
With a single eye open, and the other closed by a scar, the young moth-man did not intend to make room for bad luck.
"Whew!" then, the second silhouette of the pack appeared in the light. "I almost lost my leg this time! This one’s angry as heck! We’ll have to work up a sweat, don't you think, Dallus?"
"Take this seriously," leader Dallus said to Qurnuk without looking away from the beast. "You know what happened the last time you mocked your hunt."
With that scold, Qurnuk let a sigh out of his mouth.
Being blessed with gorgeous pale skin and long purple hair tied in a ponytail, Qurnuk allowed his triangular face to look more serious once he saw the Stone Bear composing itself.
"I thought we could have some fun," having the shield of his folding wings in front of his body in a protective vest, Qurnuk was getting ready to battle. "Can I still tank the damage?"
Suddenly, powerful sharp crystals appeared from his large, robust black wings. It was at that moment that his gaze caught the beast's, who stood upright and roared back to Qurnuk.
The animal was quick to show its gigantic shiny teeth as it got back on all fours.
"Hold it," Dallus warned Qurnuk to stay still.
"But-"
"Hold it!" insisted the squad leader, making Qurnuk experience a huge concern about that decision.
The Stone Bear roared even louder this time and soon rushed towards the two moth-men in front of it. However, when the beast began getting closer, a third silhouette struck its flank again.
The creature was stunned briefly this time and immediately reacted to the new aggression. It pawed at the air at the same time the shadow dodged its attack.
In an almost acrobatic jump as he hopped away from the threat, the third moth-man positioned himself next to the other two by wielding a ruthless dagger in each of his hands.
"His skin is thicker than usual," the newcomer - with lilac hair tied in a chignon bun - reported to both members. "This is a very ancient male. We won't be able to bring it down by small games."
"Male or female, adult or offspring, it makes no difference," Qurnuk was serious as he stepped forward, taking the lead in front of the battle. "Everyone ends up the same!"
"Liriak," Dallus said as he looked briefly at the newcomer. "Are you alright?"
Only with a singular lilac folding wing to protect his chest, Liriak nodded to his leader.
"Good," Dallus put his hand briefly on Liriak's shoulder but soon overtook him to take the lead with Qurnuk. "You know the drill, boys."
"Now, that’s more like it!" Qurnuk smirked as he punched his fists together and rushed on towards the beast. "Rock’n’roll, baby!"
His feats had reached the High Priestess' ears and his ascension ceremony welcomed him with open arms.
