He inclined himself forward and
with the quickest and most powerful move I’ve seen he closed the distance
between him and the rest of the soldiers in an instant.
As they opened the heavy
arms wagon he reached in between them… But he didn’t even bother to attack, a
second after he stopped the chains caught up and smashed everyone standing next
to him against the cart… I couldn’t even see who they were, but that force
could knock out a horse, I couldn’t tell if they survived.
The few soldiers, as trained as
they might be, couldn’t handle an opponent that was that quick… I watched as
each of them rushed towards him with swords in hand, hacking and slashing but
catching nothing in their strikes, somehow a guy completely covered in
adamantine chains that could hold down an elephant was dodging every strike
with as much ease as if he was naked.
As they started getting
frustrated they began to strike faster and stronger but he kept dodging with
the same ruthless efficiency and the same cocky smile taunting them to attack
more, faster and harder and as they got out of it one by one they feel down.
Jones was punched square
in the middle of the face that sunk his muzzle in.
Ashton grabbed by the
ankle with a chain and flung several meters away from camp.
Roger had her shield arm
bent backwards before being kicked all the way to the captains tent.
Valet came in to help his
girlfriend but ended up on the floor with a single kick in the middle of the
rib cage.
It was a massacre… Every
one of these soldiers I knew, they weren’t bad people, they were just… People.
“Azreth… STOP!!” I cried out… “Vernon is alive, you can just take him and go!”
Even despite all the noise and fighting and screaming, he managed to hear and answer me. “You sit there and wait your turn!” He threatened.
On the other hand, someone else
caught wind of me. “IF YOU CAN WORRY ABOUT THEM GET IN THERE CORPORAL!” Niles
commanded. And yet, I couldn’t, I couldn’t fight Azreth on this, we deserved
it, for what we did… For being so cruel and blind… I deserved it more than any
of them.
He then huffed at me and
singled out two officers, Emmerich and Reka, I knew what he planned on doing,
but I couldn’t work against him either.
What was I supposed to do?
Emmerich began his chant I could see the droplets of water forming in front of him and suddenly a battle cry. “AHHH!!” A deluge of water exploded towards the fight and I saw Azreth getting caught in the middle of it…
The pressurized stream started
to push the half-bred back farther and farther, he actually had to lower and
knell as to prevent it from pushing him completely, once Azreth had been pushed
back far enough Niles shouted. “NOW!! EVERYONE CLEAR!”
A second magic chant began
and with a powerful crackle a lightning emerged from Reka’s hand, dancing back
and forth between her palms before leaping out and scarring the air in
destructive light. When the current touched the water It traveled inside it,
spreading everywhere from the stream itself to every puddle in a meter radius.
Azreth was caught dead
center of it, I could see the perfect outline of his body as the energy
traveled the water and into him… A strange burnt-like smell spread through the
air then mixed with the smell of freshly formed mud, surely not even him could
have lived through that? it was hundreds of times stronger than a shock baton!
Thousands even!
Niles commanded a halt with his arm, the water ceased, the smell lingered but decreased, and yet… There he was, not even a scar in his pristine scales. “Ha-Ha… HAHAHA!” maniacally, and all of us were appalled “AMAZING! I needed a good fight after being locked for so long.”
“BLAST HIM AGAIN!!” Niles
commanded. And they did, another stream of electrified water that pushed him
several meters one more time… And it did nothing… “AGAIN!!” He shouted one more
time, the two were beginning to sweat as the magic took the tool on their
bodies… But they blasted him again, this time sending Azreth tumbling down a
few more meters, almost out of range of the light within camp.
The key difference was
that he tumbled, but this time he didn’t get up.
With him on the ground Niles
ordered another halt, still unsure as to whether they managed to do it or not… But
the feint was already activated.
His body shifted
effortlessly of the ground in a quick motion, he leaped a good three meters
into the air and rotated himself around as if he was getting ready to throw a
hammer, and then launched his chains onto Emmerich.
Adamantine is incredibly
heavy and with that force it was all he needed to topple down the one who was
one who was our biggest dog… It was like watching someone trying to stop a
moving car with their bare hands, his body collapsed on the ground and didn’t
move after that.
Azreth landed closer to us, Niles and Reka the only ones daring enough to stand in his way. “I’ll have to pass on further hydration, my skin is already in top shape.” He teased again with an enthusiastic grin, you could tell how much he enjoyed it.
“Don’t forget about me!” Reka cried out pulling in all that she got, stretching her arms back and then blasting him with all the strength she had! A wave of electrical energy surged forward sparking everything around the half-bred.
But one thing she failed to
notice, her powers had a weakness, the light was too bright she didn’t even
notice it.
Azreth had shown time and
time again that he was supernatural in some way but this sealed the deal, it
was like he was immune to it, he didn’t even flinch, even though his hair stood
on end.
Without any effort he grabbed her by the face
and lifted her up into the air. “No offense, but you were never a threat to
begin with.”
And then he discarded her,
she was flung across the camp and into what remained of the prison wagon, she
landed with a loud metallic clang and got jammed into the metal not even
dropping down after that.
He paid her no mind anymore, it
was just the two of em…
Azreth and Niles, the two
half-breds…
Azreth spread open his arms and teased further. “Seems like you’re out of cards captain trash digger… Ready to fold?”
“SHUT UP!!” Niles retorted in profound rage.
“What? Don’t like getting reminded of your origins?” Azreth’s smug and controlled remarks denounced everything you needed to know about what happened next. “I’ll have you know raccoons are respectable ferals even if-”
Niles rushed forward, flinging his blade with a sweep, Azreth dove beneath the strike lading a perfect hit across the racoon’s jawline, then moved back provoking again. “*Tsch* You’re one of those Half-breds who think you’re so full of it just because your daddy banged a dragon once… How cute!”
The comments would easily get to
Niles who once again took a completely predicable side slash… Or so we though…
When Azreth ducked beneath
it the captain clenched his draconian arm and launched a counter strike before
he could un-duck… Azreth managed to block, but the power of the blow sent him
tumbling backwards several meters. “I SAID, SHUT UP!!” The racoon cried out
again.
After latching onto the ground Azreth managed to stop, he backed away slightly and readjusted himself as Niles breathed heavily fuming with rage. He shook his arm that looked painfully sunk in as if trying to regain blood flow, that was the first time he showed any sign of pain in this whole fight… “You pack quite the punch… But you can’t best me if that is all that your daddy gave you.”
“You talk a lot Azreth…” Niles
reeled back and smiled. “You’re so full of yourself, son of a mighty dragon,
the reds asked for you personally and ordered your safe return even though you
dishonored your sire… You’re not one to talk about me, when your father is the
very reason, you’re alive right now!”
“I WOULD HAVE KILLED YOU
AND JUST BEEN DONE WITH IT!! YOU ONLY RELY ON HOW STRONG THE BLOOD IS WITHIN
YOU! WITHOUT THAT YOU’RE NOTHING! JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS DAMNED
WORLD!!”
I had never seen the
captain so out of it… “Admit it, you’re only strong because of the blood… We wouldn’t
even be having this conversation if you were like that wimpy brat right there!”
He pointed at Vernon, but did something else at the same time… A gambit.
That did however give Azreth
pause, he stopped dead still in the middle of camp and looked contemplative…
For a second there, that bloodthirsty aura disappeared and he sat in silence.
His fists clenched harder his hands trembled and then he contested.
“You’re wrong… My father
is a monster, filled with hatred and no love for anything or anyone, I’m not
strong because of him, and I’m not alive because of him… I am those things IN
SPITE OF HIM.”
“Spare me the details you special snowflake, you never had to sweat for anything in your life… You’re a hypocrite and a waste of time! The reds can have your carcass once I’m through with you!!” Niles looked over to the soldiers and motioned. “OPEN FIRE!!”
And as Niles ducked you could
see the line of rifles formed behind him all aiming straight at Azreth, those
were not your standard guns… Petard ammo meant to bring down heavily armored
targets.
Even Azreth knew he had to
dodge those, so he ran… Side stepping and dodging along the way, diving beneath
the last untouched wagon who began to literally get torn apart by explosive
rounds, the maddening symphony of destruction obliterating everything in its
path as the guns fired again and again… Until.
*KABOOMM!!!*
An explosion!
It filled the air with a
strong acidic scent and painted the sky in bright blue light as the elemental
fuel burned vividly!
Pieces of the wagon
scattered all over and filled the air with silence as the remains kept burning…
That was surely the end of him, no one could survive and explosion like that… Right?
But that was not enough to stop
him either… Worse yet, what I saw chilled me to my very core.
Amidst the flames and
smoke I saw something, A large silhouette with a glowing pattern, it was
shining brighter than the flames themselves, with huge and magnificent blue eyes…
I felt it gazing on us, it was much greater than you or me, it was a towering
giant looking down on mere ants.
And then the enormous silhouette
in the smoke disappeared, shrinking in size bit by bit, until someone emerged
from that fiery hell… The blue flames bent around him as if they dared not
touch his skin.
Truthfully it was the
sight of a god, or at least something greater than us… Something I didn’t think
was possible.
