One of the techniques I used to use in the old newspaper strip format is the continuous background - a technique borrowed from 'The Perishers', a British comic strip I used to share a page with in the Daily Mirror when I was writing the strip 'Millie' in the 1990s. Maurice Dodd, the writer, had a background in animation and borrowed this technique, where the characters would move from frame to frame against a single backdrop, from his days on the Halas & Batchelor movie of Animal Farm. The new format ruins the effect by chopping it in half, but you can get the idea from the opening tryptich.
Before Smith appeared on Tapas, it was available at ComicSherpa - a site which has just closed down, making those first 562 comics unavailable. So, here they are again, presented daily in glorious high definition Tapasvision until the full collection is back up online again.
