I sat on the couch with my legs tangled with the person on top of me. She had her headphones on her new tablet, and she was watching the same anime she always watches. She laughs at whatever it is they're doing, and I laugh too.
I don't talk, but it's a nice noise. This silence is how I spend most of my Sunday with this beautiful girl.
"Baby, I'm hungry. Can I go make us something?" She put her tablet on the table and turned to look at me.
"Sure, "I smiled.
She sat up and kissed me on the cheek, then took her headphones out and went to the kitchen. Almost everything she makes is star quality, but she usually doesn't cook. I sat up. She was planning something.
I looked over the couch and saw that she had her "Cooking Couple" apron on that I got her for her birthday. Actually, what day is it?
I took my phone out and saw that it was February 3. Why is that so familiar?
"We could make pizza or lasagna. Which one?" She poked her head out. Somethings up.
I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her waist. "What do you want?"
She laughed but didn't say anything. She took my hands off of her waist and gave me a spoon.
Seeing as I knew her for three years, it was almost obvious to see what she wanted.
"Tensil Battle! Do you, May Argenten, have a death wish?" She held a wooden spoon on her shoulder.
"I, Lillian Spore, indeed do."
She laughed as she poked her spoon in my side. I used me to block another attack. Our spoons clashed like swords, and with all of my speed, I hit her gently in the neck.
She dropped her spoon."Oh, the pain!" She slumped to the floor. She kept squirming, and suddenly she went still and silent.
My foot found its way to her stomach." You have been a worthy opponent, and for that, I shall revive you with my kiss of healing." I leaned down and kissed her on the lips. She let out a breath of life.
"My hero," She kissed me again.
"My princess."
"Okay, but seriously, what's going on? You've been overly nice."
She frowned."Wait, you don't know?"
I shook my head.
"How in the world could you forget?! She got up and sat back on the couch. She picked up her tablet and turned on whatever anime she was already watching.
"I'm sorry, please don't break up with me."
She chuckled, "This isn't that kind of problem." She looked at me."You do know when our anniversary is, right?"
I nodded. "It's July fourth, but that's kind of the only date I know besides Christmas. And your birthday."
She smiled.
Wait.
It's my BIRTHDAY.
I slapped myself, hard. I always forget. The last memory I have of my previous birthday was a very nice disaster. The only thing I could enjoy was the ice on my head and the body warmth I got from Lillian.
I sat on the couch with her. She wasn't paying any more attention to the show and was just looking at me. Though the fact she could drop something quickly made no sense, she always said she had a short attention span. But her smile was scaring me. Actually, it was more of a smirk.
"I thought you were a lost cause. How could someone forget a birthday?"
That's another thing I like about her. She remembers whatever she puts down within three seconds.
"Really, I would obviously forget my birthday if I had to go to work the next day. I could just celebrate it there," I buried my head in her shoulder. Honestly, I'm just fine with sleeping all day.
"Do you want to go and do anything, or do you want to watch me watch anime?" She clicked the play button, basically reading my thoughts. "Did you know that Kenta is only marrying Tanaka for her money, but she's under the false impression that he is rich? And did you know that Tanaka's crush, Asumi, actually liked her and asked her dad to marry her? But her dad threw it away because he doesn't like girls with girls?"
I shook my head." No, but now I do. So I'm all caught up."
"Did you want me to put on the subtitles? I know you don't understand Japanese. Do you want me to teach you?"
"Yes to all of those questions."
She laughed.
And that's all we did for my birthday. Just me and her, waiting for Monday to come. Waiting to go to work, and I like my job. I work as a teacher for one of the best high schools in the state. Lillian does, too. I met her just before we both got the job, and honestly, I don't know how I haven't sooner. I teach eighth grade, and she teaches ninth.
All of the other teachers know what the students don't know. We are a couple, and they all think I'm married to my brother. I don't know why they think that other than the fact he has the same last name. I am a Ms., but not a lot of kids think that's true.
My brother makes fun of the students behind their backs about this, and I'm not sure if that's allowed, but I'm not going to tell. It's actually kind of funny.
All of the kids come up to me and ask when did we get married. They've asked so much that I just began to tell them lies. And, of course, Lillian got mad. I can't blame her though. Well, I can a little bit because I thought she knew that I loved her until the end of the earth. We made up though, and now she even teases me about it sometimes.
"Hey, you awake."
I jolt at the sound, and I know that I probably was going to sleep. "Now I am."
Squrimed a little," Sorry, I just wanted you to know that I am still hungry, so I want you to order pizza."
I laughed," Why can't you do that?"
"Cause Tanaka and Arumi had just gotten to have a nice talk about what's happening. I can't miss a nice connection."
"Okay, but then I'll have to get up, and you're on top of me."
"You put your phone in your pocket this morning. I saw you."
"But now it's on the counter because I needed to check the date."
She groaned, then put her tablet on the table and walked over to the kitchen. "What pizza do you want?"
"Tell them to get the usual."
She smiled, "But just to be sure, that means half cheese and half Hawaiian, right?"
I did my finger guns and clicked my tongue.
She procced to make the order. "Pick up or delivery?"
"I'm too lazy to drive."
"Does that mean I'm driving tomorrow? Cause if it does, then I will make this pizza fully cheese."
"Go easy on me. It's my birthday. I'll drive tomorrow. Promise." I crossed my heart, and she threw a pillow in my face.
I threw the pillow back, but I was still laying down on the couch, so it just hit the top of the couch and came back down on me.
"So, May's usual, please."
She hung up and placed the phone back on the island. Then she looked at me with her nice tilted grin. Which, I'm not going to lie, looks kind of creepy if you aren't used to it.
"So, what are we going to do now that that's done?"
I knew exactly what she meant.
And, it's my birthday.
About twenty minutes when we're both sweaty, and the doorbell rang. Lillian jumped and fell off the couch, and I had to look through the dimly lit room to find where I put my clothes.
Once I found them, I walked to the door and opened it a little so I could slide out, seeing as Lil wasn't dressed yet. The delivery gal had a nice figure with the cleanest uniform I have ever seen.
"This is for May, right?"
She nodded," That'll be twelve fourteen."
I slid through the crack and went to look for my wallet."Where's my wallet?"
"Probably in your purse." Lillian put my shirt on.
"Then where is my purse?"
"Know what, here. I found this on the street the other day," She held up a twenty-dollar bill." Tell em to keep the change."
I took the bill out of her hand and slipped back outside. I handed the lady the bill and took the pizza." Keep the change."
The lady smiled, "Thank you, but we don't do tips. Do you mind if I keep this for me?"
I waved my hand, "Sure, yeah, whatever."
I shut the door and saw that Lil was on the couch sleeping. It was really cute, but I still had a whole pizza in my hand, and it was really hot.
But I didn't want to wake her. Guess we'll eat pizza for lunch.
