"Once a month my father goes out to sea. And once a month my father comes back. Every month my father brings treasures he finds on the sea floor. Gold coins from a sunken ship, starfish of varieties long thought extinct, sea shells, and pearls that shines like diamonds. Daddy tells he loves see me smile. He says it's because my smile is brighter then the sun! One daddy had to take mommy with him. Mommy had tears in her eyes as she stood on the pier and waved good-bye. 'You're a big girl now. You take care of yourself.' She sniffles. I waved goodbye as mommy was taken away. Some odd hours, when I was sure they were gone, I went back to the pier and cried. I missed her already. She had never been gone before and was no longer here when I returned from the market. I had cried and cried until dad suddenly shows up form the water, he looks at me with sorrow in his eyes. Then he hugs me. As usual, it was cold and wet. His pale patched skin mustered up as much warmth as it could in his loving embrace. He smelled of mold and sea salt. And in a deep gargled voice he says ' My daughter, I'm so sorry to cause you so much pain. You won't being seeing your mother or I for a while now. But, one day when you're old enough I will return and take you down... And anyone else you wish to bring with you, to the bottom of the ocean. You won't feel any pain I promise. And we'll all live together at the bottom of the sea... Forever as a family.'"
