As they passed the closet to the left on their way to the last bedroom, Sanel opened it.
“This closet is just for cleaning supplies, towels, hand towels, and general bathroom supplies, like toothbrushes.” He said, giving Olli a chance to poke his head in and see a neatly organized wall of shelves, before closing it and continuing towards the last room.
“Personally, I would choose this room because it has its own bathroom and a bay window.” Sanel chuckled before leading Olli into the room.
It looked slightly bigger than the other two and even had a small bookcase next to the bed. The bed was in the middle of the wall under another window, instead of pressed up against it sideways like the other two. On the left was the bookcase and a door, and on the right was a nightstand, the bay window, and another door.
“On the left is the bathroom, and the closet is to the right, next to the window.” Sanel pointed to each of the doors and opened them each as they said this, looking at Olli to see how he liked this room.
The bathroom was similar in size to the one shared by the connected bedrooms, but the closet felt slightly smaller. This wasn’t a problem though, because of his relatively small collection of clothes, and overall he liked this room a lot more than the others.
He looked around, then walked towards the bay window, lined in pastel pink curtains, colorful cushions, and crisp white pillows. It had a clear view of open shimmering water and was facing where the suns would set.
“I… I really like this room, are you sure I can stay in it?” Olli wasn’t sure if this was a test or not. Bea would have laughed at him for choosing this one and forced him into the smallest room she could find if this was her house. He didn’t think Sanel would do that, they had seemed really nice so far. Some people were just good at acting, and he could never truly know who to trust, especially on the first meeting.
“Of course, you can choose any room, especially this one!” Sanel smiled then whispered, “This is the best room, so I would have recommended this one even if you chose differently!”
Olli was relieved, and smiled, setting his bags down next to the closet.
“Then I’ll take this one, thank you,” he thanked him sincerely, happy that he got to choose his very own room.
“Great! I’ll just leave you to unpack, and we can go shopping some time and get you some more stuff. I saw that you probably need a new backpack, so we can get one of those too.”
That was true… his backpack was covered in stains and getting pretty threadbare, he’d had it since he was nine, afterall.
“I’ll just be downstairs with Haron, then, so you can start unpacking and come down whenever.” They smiled and left the room, leaving the door open.
Olli looked around and decided to put away his clothes first. The closet was pretty big, he could walk inside it, and it had a light which he turned on. There were already hangars lined up on the rack, so he hung up all of his sweaters and shirts. There were also shelves and some cubbies, so he folded his pants, shorts, leggings, and pajamas and set them along the shelves, then took his socks and undergarments to stuff in two of the cubbies. This left six open cubbies, so he set both pairs of shoes into two of the lowest cubbies.
By the time Olli was satisfied with the organization of his closet, two hours had passed. It was quite a shock for him as he looked at the time on his phone because it had barely felt like thirty minutes. He knew it would probably be lunchtime soon, so he decided to quickly put away his toiletries in the bathroom before he went downstairs.
The bathroom was of similar size to the other one, but the shower had clear glass instead of cloudy glass. Probably because this one was more private and didn’t need to be covered.
He set his brush and comb down on the counter next to the sink, then looked around for something to put his toothbrush in. Finally, he squatted down to look under the sink and found a couple of cups strapped inside. Olli pulled one free, rinsed it out, and set his toothbrush in it next to the sink, along with his fruit flavored toothpaste. He knew he was probably too old for that, but he couldn’t help it and bought it secretly anyways. He never would have heard the end of it if Bea found out about it, but now he… probably didn’t have to worry about that.
Looking around, he noticed the room didn’t have a desk, so he would just leave his schoolwork and textbooks in his bag for now. Textbooks… he could probably sell those, they might use different ones at his new school. For now he would wait, though.
Olli was about to fish his few favorite books from his bag and put them on the bookshelf when he heard a firm knock from the door. He looked over as it opened and Haron looked around the room. He was crouched next to the bed, so he stood up and began walking to Haron.
“Oh, hey, lunch is ready if you would please come downstairs,” Haron smiled, then his face lit up as he remembered something. “I forgot to tell you this earlier, but the housekeeper comes once a week, so it would be great if you could only wear shoes in the basement, first floor, and roof. We wouldn’t want the carpets to get dirty.”
“O-oh, should I bring my shoes downstairs then? I put them in my closet… sorry.”
“No, no, you’re fine, no need to say sorry if you didn’t know. There’s an entryway closet that we keep most of our shoes in, you can put them there.”
Olli nodded and went to get both pairs of shoes. He grabbed his bags and stowed them away in his closet as well, he could put his books away later. The red hallway carpet had been fluffy before even with his shoes on, but now he only had socks. There was carpet in the bedrooms, but it was thinner and a sort of beige color. With his shoes swinging in his hands, he couldn’t help but bounce down the stairs as Haron led him to the first floor.
They got to the bottom of all the stairs and stepped out onto a large oriental rug. It covered most of the metal floor in the entrance room, but Haron stepped off of it to lead Olli around the side of the stairs. They stopped in front of double doors and Haron pulled them open, revealing a small closet filled with coats and shoes.
“Just set them down in that free spot there, then we can go eat lunch.” Haron nodded to the spot, patiently waiting for Olli so they could go eat.
Olli did so, placing them down and shutting the doors when he had finished.
