"Hey, Fawth. I'm gonna need your help." Said Tekashi.
"What's the deal?" Asked Fawth.
"Someone left a note and it's pretty threatening. Can you cover me while I meet someone at the park?" Tekashi said.
"You got it, my man." Fawth said.
They met downtown and then split up before they reached the park. Fawth hid a few feet away behind some bushes while Tekashi approached the meeting spot.
"I'm here." Said Tekashi.
A group of men turned around. One of them emerged from the group who looked like the leader.
"So you must be Tekashi." Said the leader.
"How do you know my name?" Tekashi asked.
"We know many things. But that's beside the point of our meeting." The leader said.
"What do you want from me?" Tekashi asked.
"We are the future of justice and our way is the best way. During one of our showcases of power, we found someone. When she mentioned you we knew the value of her. As a bargaining chip, we want you to retrieve something for us and she will be returned to you." The leader explained.
"What do you want me to get?" Tekashi questioned.
"The orb. The one from that institute you've been prancing around. Pull the book from inside it and bring it back to us. Only when we have the book in hand will we return her unharmed." The leader said.
Tekashi thought for a while and nodded his head.
"Deal." He said.
Later, Fawth met back up with Tekashi.
"So? What happened?" Fawth asked.
"They have her. If I give them the book that's in the orb at the institute then they will give her back." He said.
"What?! You can't!" Fawth said.
"Why not? Seems like a fair deal to me!" Tekashi said.
"Don't you realize the amount of power that book contains? If someone like them gets their hands on it then this city would be doomed!" Said Fawth.
"Pfft. Stop overreacting. Let's go home man." Tekashi said.
The very next day, He went down to the institute and made his way to the orb.
"Hm. Last time I didn't get a chance to try. Let's see what I've got." He said.
"He placed his hand on the orb and closed his eyes.
Several students saw him and said "Hey look! Another kid is trying the orb!"
A group of people crowded around him. Tekashi took a deep breath and then lightning started to form around his hand. It surged through the orb and made a bunch of crackling noises. After a few minutes, he stopped. The students around him started to walk away and Tekashi stepped away from the orb. Just as he began to walk away, the orb cracked.
One of the students pointed at the orb and yelled "Look!"
Tekashi ran back up to it. More cracks appeared and then with a loud bang, it shattered. The book inside it plopped on the pedestal. The students that were surrounding him began to whisper which turned into clapping. Tekashi picked up the book and then weaved his way through the crowd. Once he made it outside, he walked back to the park.
"I sense it. You have retrieved the book. Well done." The leader said.
Tekashi held out the book and the leader took it.
"Now here's our end of the bargain." He said.
One of them dragged a person out and pulled a cloth from their head.
"Maeda! You're alive." Tekashi exclaimed.
"We have not harmed her. Our deal is complete. Until next time, Brightworlder." The leader said as he and his group left.
"Brightworlder? What does that mean?" Tekashi asked himself.
"I'm glad you're Ok." Maeda said.
"Me? I thought you died when the building collapsed." Said Tekashi.
"Those guys took me and said to wait until their business was complete. I guess you were their business." She said.
"Let's go to the institute. Maybe the professor can help you find a new place." He said.
When they entered Drinx's classroom, he turned and was astonished upon seeing Maeda.
"Miss Maeda! Are you alright?!" Said Professor Drinx.
"Yeah, thanks." She said.
"Hey Drinx, she'll need a place to stay. You got any ideas?" Asked Tekashi.
"Hm. There's a place that just might have an opening. Come with me." Drinx said.
Maeda and Drinx took off and Tekashi walked back to his place. On his way back, he called up Fawth to let him know that Maeda was Ok.
"Phew! I was so worried." He said.
"You really like her, huh." Fawth said.
"What? No, uh, I don't know what you mean." Said Tekashi.
"Hey don't sweat it. If you want me to help you out I got you." Said Fawth.
"Thanks, bye." Said Tekashi.
As he entered his room, he fell on the bed.
"What a day." He said.
He fell asleep a few minutes later and had a dream about his favorite comic book characters.
"Take that, you evildoer! Volcanic Splash!" Said the character named Hip.
"Hyah! Watch out!" Said another character named Thorn.
"Tekashi? What are you doing here? You need to get to safety!" Yelled Hip.
"Take my hand! Let's go!" Said Thorn.
Tekashi reached out but it felt so far away. Finally, he grabbed her hand and held on tight. Her hand was so soft and he noticed her face was very pretty.
"Watch out!" She yelled.
She pulled Tekashi close to protect him.
"This is probably not the time to ask this but would you wanna go out sometime?" He asked.
She laughed and laughed. Her laughter kept growing until it was maniacal. Then Tekashi was suddenly in the middle of the battlefield. Hip was hurling electrified rocks at him.
"What? Hip stop! It's me!" He said.
Hip kept on attacking him. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Fawth behind Thorn.
"I know this is probably not the time to ask this but would you wanna go out sometime?" Fawth asked her.
She smiled and said "Of course! I love you!"
"What?! No! Ahhh!" Tekashi said.
Everything was falling apart around him. They all began to fall into an endless abyss.
Hip's voice rang in his head saying "You were supposed to be the best of us."
Then Thorn's voice piped up and said "You were the chosen one!"
"Why did you betray me, man?!" Said Fawth.
"Ahhhhh!" Tekashi screamed.
He woke up in a cold sweat and was breathing hard.
"Just a dream. Just a dream." He said to himself.
Before he fell back asleep he remembered what the leader called him earlier.
"Brightworlder. What does it mean?" He said as he drifted back to sleep.
