It wasn't till the day of the monthly pack run that Colt spoke to Sage again. He had kept to himself since their last encounter after speaking with his father. Torn with his personal role in making Sage feel the way he felt that day. Acting just like the men he ran from but still far too hotheaded and stubborn to admit any fault.
"Come on." He motioned, grabbing the keys to his truck, "Mike wants you to run so . . . "
Colt didn't like the idea of a non-member running with them but it's what his father wanted so he was going to do it. The moon would be full tonight, so changing was expected of them. Colt being an alpha had more control over his shifting, he could go in and out of wolf appearance anytime he honestly wanted to. Full moons just added a little more pressure on controlling the urge too shift. Unaware of how much control Sage may or may not have as an omega he rather have him out in the thick woods than his small apartment alone.
Sage was nervous but followed Colt, he hadn't run in years with a pack. Much less a pack he didn't belong to. Still hung up on why Mike offered for him to do so. It was against the common rules of any pack, outsiders didn't run. Wondering if maybe he felt guilty for knowing Patrick and all the things that were done to him. Wanting to give him some kind of a good memory or maybe he just wanted to see how he might fit in with the pack before making a choice on keeping him or not.
Allowing him to become one of them was something Mike and Sage had talked about that day too. Mike was very open-minded in that area. Willing to give Sage a chance at being one of them once he got better. All he asked was that he be loyal to him and pull his weight. Said at their next conversation based on how things went he'd give him an assignment or his job and role for the pack. Sage was too scared to share any of this with Colt because he seemed to want nothing to do with him at the time or now. He was just a burden he couldn't wait to get rid of.
Being on eggshells didn't stop once they got in the truck if anything it just became a more awkward feeling at least for Colt. Sage was used to being around people that didn't want him there. He was fine with the silence. Noting all the turns and lights just as he had before. This time they weren't going to the clubhouse.
"We have a starting point," Colt commented as he cut the engine.
They had a large area that was their territory, they had daily patrols over that land with their Scouters and so on but every full moon each member or unit family had their starting point. Areas in which they checked before meeting in the middle and running together. Then breaking off and returning to their assigned start.
Colt wasted no time after he stepped out to strip down. Clothes were usually removed before shifting but there have been times that Colt hadn't been able to and destroyed his clothes in the process. Sage's cheeks blushed red averting his eyes away. He had seen Colt in his boxer before. Each time noting his form, how solid and ripped he was. Features expected of most alphas.
The naked form was something he was very accustomed to but still found himself feeling embarrassed as he glanced at Colt. Sage looked nothing like him, shy as he pulled his clothes off. Colt looked away in hopes that things would go a bit faster, not letting Sage in on the fact he's seen him naked before. Figured he already guessed who cleaned him up that first night.
"Don't fall behind." Spoke Colt as he rolled his shoulders sounding annoyed. "If for some reason you do, the clubhouse is three miles south of here." Pointing in the direction.
"I know how to tell directions," Sage spoke more to himself as Colt started to shift.
The process didn't take long at all for him, Colt lunging forward in his step landing on four large black paws. Colt in wolf form looked like his father solid black minus where his strawberry birthmark was he had a small white patch of fur. As an alpha, he was larger than a beta and way larger than an omega. Omega's were about the size of the everyday wolves so take that and times it by about three.
It felt good to shift, Colt felt the moon drawing him even more than normal tonight. Sure it was because of all the pent of feelings he was having about the last few weeks of his life. Crystal blue eyes glancing back at Sage one last time before he started off into the thick brush.
Sage didn't shift often in all honesty it was kind of hard for him to do. Just like never being taught the ins and outs of being an omega he was never taught about being in wolf form. Yes, some of it was natural just a given but most things were learned from one's parents and being part of a proper pack. Two things Sage has never had.
Getting himself as relaxed as he possibly could he lunged forward much like Colt did, landing on four sandy grey paws. Not wasting any more time as he pushed off into the forest after Colt, following his scent. The cool earth hard under his paws as he moved certain places with more give as he moved.
