I love Bioware for including romances so you can get to know your companion better. They just aren't very good at picking the characters that I want for those romances...
And really, in Dragon Age 2 you should be able to romance someone who isn't in your party, as you can't even talk to the companions whenever you want to anyway (DA:O system back, please! D:)
