Abigail strutted out of her bedroom, knowing that Stefan would be waiting on the sofa in his tuxedo. He had come over to her little flat to pick her up about 35 minutes ago. She had still been in the shower and had he not been all dressed up himself, he would have joined her. So instead, he collapsed on the couch and watched TV in the shoebox-sized apartment.
Stefan hated her living here, at this address, in this rundown tenement building. Every time he came to pick her up, he felt guilty about leaving her here again after their date. If Stefan stood at one side of her living room/kitchen and swung a baseball bat, he swore the tip of the bat would hit the opposite wall before making a complete swing. That would have to change, he hoped that after tonight it would change.
Looking down at the bulge in his trouser pocket, Stefan was checking it was still there. He cupped it to confirm that it was. Phew, it was, and he released the grip he had on his pocket.
No, no, it wasn't a ring, he wasn't about to pop the question. Far too soon for that, it had only been seven months, tonight. That's what tonight was for, to just celebrate seven fantastic months together. Or at least that's what he told Abi. What he had really planned was to give her a key in celebration of being the best girlfriend he had had.
A key; a key to his apartment, that was the gift he was hoping she'd accept. It wasn't just the key that would be special, as she gave him hers only last month. No, what was causing his heart to beat faster and his palms to sweat, was the thought of him asking her to move in with him. Stefan hoped that she would say-.
“-How do I look?”, Abigail asked, walking in from the shower cubicle that the building's supervisor called a bathroom, as she put her earrings in.
Stefan swung his head around to see her low-cut, royal blue dress. His mouth fell open, his eyes ogling the way it accentuated all of her curves. “I, uh… You look… You look great.”
"Great? I just look great? Shall I change?"
"Nah, uh, no. Stunning." He gulped. "You shouldn't change, you look stunning."
His eyes stayed on her chest, glued to the dip in her dress that exposed part of her busty cleavage. She shook her head, smirking as he stared at her, entranced. “Yeah, okay, let’s keep our thoughts innocent.” Then she took a few steps closer to perch herself on his lap. Letting out a light giggle as she finished putting on her earrings and ran a hand through her hair. “You don’t look so bad yourself,” she complimented, lightly biting her lip as she checked him out.
He always looked good but there was something about a suit that instantly made guys a whole lot more attractive than they were before. Especially Stefan, he was one of those guys who could wear anything and look a million dollars.
It took a few seconds but he finally blinked and shook his head, pulling his attention away from her chest to look her in the eyes. "Th- Thank you. It's, uh, it's all for you, you should know that."
With a faint blushing in the cheeks, Abigail stitched her thick brown, professionally-shaped (by herself) eyebrows together. "What's up with you, Stef? You seem really different. I've not seen you like this before, are you sick?"
"What?! No, no, not sick. I'm just a little nervous."
"Nervous, why? What do you have to be nervous about?" Abigail's voice was a little panicked and Stefan was suddenly aware that he shouldn't have let that slip out. "Are you planning to- to break up with me?
"No!"
She continued, not hearing his answer, "If you are, then why take me out first? Just tell me now and leave, then I can just take all this off and go have a bath, maybe keep my head under the water a while."
She went to push herself up off his lap but he stopped her, wrapping his arms around her waist to keep her there. "I don't want you to do that, Abi. I don't want to break up with you. I love you."
"Good, I love you too, I do. I don't want to break up either," her words slower and quiving slightly. "But then, why are you nervous?"
Stefan just looked at her, lovingly smiling. "Because you took my breath away. You usually do, but tonight, seeing you just now has made me really nervous. I was reminded again how lucky I am and how you're way too good for me."
"Me?", Abi questioned in astonishment, ignoring the sudden warmth in her face. "Have you looked in the mirror?"
"Yes, I am, but my reflection isn't the clearest when looking into your eyes. I'm also not concentrating on myself when I do."
Rolling her eyes at the comment, she sighed and got up out of his hold. "I'm ready."
He stood up straight after her. “Ready to go?” The TV still playing in the backgroud but neither of them seemed to notice it any more as they stared at each other.
A silent, calming minute passed before Stefan walked to the door to open it for her. She walked over, stopping just before walking through, catching her eye on something. "Is that-?", she started to ask.
Spotting that she had seen the bulge in his pocket, he replied, "It's only been seven months, remember, it's not what you're thinking." She nodded. "But it will hopefully stop those reservations you have that we were just discussing. I do love you, so let me show you just how much tonight."
"Okay, Stef, you can show me. Let's go."
With smiles on the faces, they left the small apartment for, hopefully, one of last times in the next coming weeks.
