“Martin,” I hear a deep voice hum. “I still can't believe that they just left her there. Her face was fucking broken and her body was flooded with Alpha hormones. She could hardly stand when she stumbled over to me.”
I hear Martin’s very distinct sigh. “She’s always had a rough time as a Beta, but I never expected this. I thought the city would be better than our hometown. Remember how I told you that we met because she was protecting me from bullies?”
“The way she just jumped into this situation, I can definitely believe it,” The other voice says. He sounds familiar. Where do I know him from?
“Yeah, she’s really amazing, as you can conclude from my stories.” I can hear the smile in Martin’s voice. “The moment my eyes met hers, I knew that I would do everything I could possibly do to protect her. But this time,” he sobbed, “I couldn’t.”
“Mhn, that was not your fault,” I croak.
“Jane?!” Martin grabs my hand.
“Sorry I was late to lunch, Boo-Boo,” I give a small smile.
“Oh honey,” Martin coughs out, choking on his tears. “That is far from the problem.”
“Where am I?” I ask, looking around.
“The hospital,” the other Alpha says, catching my attention with a dazzling smile. He has beautiful chestnut eyes, deep chocolate hair, and a physique any Alpha would die for, definitely over 6'4" and muscular in a way that is not overbearing. Martin looks small sitting next to him, even though he is 6'2" and very muscular himself. And is black hair and blue eyes were quite the contrast to this lovely being.
“Who are you, an angel?” I blink at him.
He chuckles. “No, I think that is your title.”
“Hmm?”
“Do you not remember what happened, Jane?” Martin gets my attention back.
“I was going to get brunch with you, but apparently I didn’t make it, because I am here in the hospital.”
“So, you don’t remember me?” The angel asks me, his smile faltering slightly.
“I’m sorry, but not really?”
“Well, you were hurt pretty badly,” the angel hums.
“Knock-knock,” A nurse walks in with a pretty, young Omega on her arm. Blond hair, dough green eyes, soft body, and maybe 5'4" stature made him look so precious. “Here you are, hon. You’re in luck, it looks like she finally woke up.”
“Thank you,” he smiles at him before turning to face me. “And thank you.”
“Wait, a minute? Jonny?” It took me a minute, but he became familiar.
He gave a soft smile and nod.
I turn back to the angel. “So, you were the other Alpha?”
“So you do remember me?” He brightens.
“Yes, it all just came back to me. Jonny, I am so glad that you are okay.”
“I should be the one telling you that. I saw what Zack did. I felt so badly that I couldn’t help you,” a tear streams down his face.
“Hey now,” I reach my hand out to him. “You were in heat, there was nothing that you could do.”
“I see why she is your best friend,” the angel mumbles to Martin. I should really ask for his name. Oh well.
“And James, thanks to you too. I would have been claimed for sure if you didn’t punch Zach.” Well, that answered that question.
“What happened with Zack? I assume that was the Alpha that was rutting?”
“Yes,” Jonny hums. “As soon as he bit you, his eyes returned to normal. He couldn’t believe what he had done. He apologized to me, but was still taken into custody. By the time I was on the ambulance, my heat had been stated. I was taken to the hospital for observations, but I was fine. It was the easiest heat I have ever experienced.”
I notice that he is wearing my jacket. That makes me smile. And if Zach calmed down after biting me, maybe my hypothesis is correct?
“I wanted to go back for you,” Jonny brought my attention back to the conversation at hand. He let out a whimper. “But they wouldn’t. I told them that you were hurt, but they wouldn’t go back for you.”
“It’s okay,” James says. “Once you left, she came to check on me. I still had a bit of rut, and I smelt Zach all over her, so I started licking her wounds, which helped with the healing process.”
James and I both blush at the thought.
“Once I calmed down enough, I realized just how injured she was, so I brought her here. I’m just lucky that I own this hospital, or they might not have even treated her,” James sighs. “Your cheek was broken, you had internal bleeding, and still so many Alpha hormones in you. You could have died, and they still needed me to force them to help.”
“Thank you, James.” I am at a loss for words. First I have Martin protecting me, now James?
“It should be human decency to help each other,” James sighs. “I shouldn’t have had to use my power. The police shouldn’t have left you at the scene. It’s just not right.”
“I am not worthy,” I mumble under my breath.
“Excuse me?” Jonny and James say simultaneously. Martin just sighs.
“Jane,” Martin whispers.
I look at him with tears in my eyes. “I am no one. I don’t deserve you. I don’t deserve help,” I start shaking, keeping my head down so I don’t make eye contact with any of them.
“Jonny, James, could you please give us a second?” I hear Martin ask.
“We’ll go get some food and be right back?” James asks.
“That would be great, thanks.” I hear the door open and close. I feel the bed shift as Martin sits beside me.
“Jane, my love,” he snuggles close to me. “Your parents aren’t here. You are worthy. Of love, of happiness, of life. You are worthy because you are you.”
I let out a sob.
“Jane, I was so scared when James called me from your phone. I thought that you were going to die. What would I have done without my bestie? I literally love you so much.”
“But why?” I look up at him. “There’s nothing that I can do for you. All I’ll ever be is average.”
“First of all, you don’t need to do anything for me. I love you just because. Second of all, you have done SO much for me. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to come out without you. I wouldn’t have wanted to go to college without you. I wouldn’t have passed college without you. Coming home every day to your smiling face brings me a joy I cannot explain. When I am hurting, I know that you are there to love me, and I immediately feel better. I love you so damn much.”
I just hug him tighter.
“Do you believe me?”
“Yes.” I say softly.
“Good. Now, please don’t go and almost die on me again.”
“Okay,” I laugh, “I will try my best.”
How did I get so lucky?
