Bismuth, Spinel and Amethyst go to the desert to find the Desert Glass that Sophie had seen that morning before school. As education was very important, the gems took this mission by themselves. It wasn't uncommon, they saved the Sea Spire, made sure the drone shards were bubbled, and destroyed the Smoke Monster, all while the kids got their much needed human education. That didn't mean the kids were left out of everything, after meeting Connie, the kids had a play date, and often had her over to study. They also still trained with Garnet's recordings, and had gem lessons with Holo-pearl. This was just one of those emergencies that they couldn't come along with.
Walking along the sand, Bismuth muses about how this was where Rose came to explain herself and her secrets, where she was kept bubbled. Dodging a few sand columns, they realized that Sophie had seen the structures become aimless and they had to get the glass out of the sand. Bismuth and Amethyst run off to find the gem and Spinel stays behind. Sitting next to a column she practices her stretching when she hears a growl. stretching her neck around the column, she ends up nose to nose with a pink lion. Squeaking nervously, she backs up only to flatten against a wall that appears out of nowhere. The lion walks up to her, his face darkened in the shadows, but instead of hurting Spinel, he simply noses her gem.
Bismuth and Amethyst return carrying a pillow with a round gem on top. Bismuth halts upon seeing the lion, then relaxes, walking up to pet the creature. Accepting the pats with a huff, he turns back to Spinel and pokes her gem again. Bismuth tries to reason with the large cat, " Hey bud, that's not Rose, you know she's not here anymore, right? We could probably take you to see her son though, I'm pretty sure she wanted you two to meet one day." The lion huffs and lays down, eyeing the three gems, then his back, and back to Bismuth.
"Are we supposed to climb on or something? It looks like he wants to give us a ride." Amethyst asks. The others agree, climbing on with Amethyst holding the Desert Glass.
Lion Roars and opens a portal, running in and taking the gems back to the temple. Falling off from the rush of the ride, Amethyst flings the Glass's pillow onto the beach, and the columns and stairs started building again. Lion bucks Bismuth off, and Spinel hold on for dear life as the beast jumps from structure to structure roaring and knocking them down. Spinel spots the pillow on the top of a rapidly growing column and points the way. Lion obliges and jumps along walls to get her close. Spinel sees the gem and stretches her arm around objects to grab the pillow. The sand falls back to the beach, albeit a bit violently, and Lion lands safely next to the other two gems.
The kids come home then, Page using her psammokinesis to knock the dust off her caretakers. Lion immediately runs up to Steven and knocks him down to snuffle at his belly. Bismuth explains that the lion used to belong to his mother, and, she supposes, belongs to him now. "But you have to take it up with your dad on where this silly cat is going to stay." she adds.
"Aww man! Dad's not going to let a lion stay in the house..." Steven laments, just as said parent drives up the walk. Surprisingly, Greg doesn't balk at all when seeing the massive pink floof. He walked over and held his hand out like introducing himself to a dog, and put his hand on the animal's nose.
"So, you're the friend my Rose told me about. It's good to meet you, I guess you've already met Steven too, well he's all yours now. Take care of him, and don't eat the furniture. Oh, and don't go into my room... please." Steven looks up at his father and then bombards him with a hug. Letting go the kids rush into the house to show their new pet around.
