Olifar was only in first school when his mother passed away, and he never knew his father, but his mom loved to tell him stories of when they met and how they fell in love, before he was tragically killed in a factory accident a couple weeks before Olifar turned one.
His mom was devastated, but kept living for Olifar, so he could have a happy childhood. The peace didn’t last though, and this became apparent when she had become so sick she could barely stand without help from a nurse.
Olifar was only seven when his mom was diagnosed, and told she had one orbit left to live. Olifar couldn’t understand what was happening.
Why isn’t mommy playing with me?
Why does this strange lady have to come live with us?
It was during Olifar’s second orbit of first school that she passed away, and he was sent to live with his only known relatives, his aunt Bea and uncle Georgi.
Aunt Bea was a plump woman with thin, greasy brown hair and too much free time, and uncle Georgi was a tall man who was always drunk, when he wasn’t working.
They made it very clear to Olifar every stir that it wasn’t their choice that he was here. Traetys was full of dark haired, tall, tan people who were athlete swimmers and couldn’t get a sunburn no matter how hard they tried.
Olifar had white hair, was short, pasty, bad at swimming, and would get a sunburn after less than an hour in the sun.
He didn’t mean to be different.
He didn’t want to be different.
But Olifar couldn’t help it, because it was in his genes. His father was from a dark, frosty planet far away from here, and whose people had little similarities to anyone from Traetys.
He spent the rest of first and second school with them, until his first orbit of third school...

Every stir when Olifar came home, his aunt would be waiting for him in the living room, reading or watching t.v. so she could make sure he heard what she had to say.
“You ugly thing, why weren’t you home earlier?”
After six orbits of living with her, Olifar had become numb to her hurtful words. He guessed she would say this, as this had become her favorite line to say when she couldn’t think of any new insults or reasons to hate him.
“The bus left late, so I couldn’t get home right away. I’m sor-“
“Stop making excuses, I don’t want to hear it. You can explain to your uncle when he gets home after work.” His aunt never did anything to him besides insult him and say hateful words, so he didn’t mind living with her too much. He did dread living with his uncle, though.
Whenever his aunt said she would tell Georgi, chills ran down his spine and he would break out in a cold sweat. Georgi would do more than yell at Olifar, especially when he was drunk. Which was 90 percent of the time.
He still had welts on his back from lastir* and bruises on his arms that he had a hard time hiding from everyone at school, especially during gym. His only option was to hide in droopy clothes that covered his whole body. This was especially tiring during summer, because the temperature could rise to the 170s F during the middle of the stir. *yesterday is called lastir*
Olifar couldn’t wait to move out. He had saved money by tutoring his classmates during lunch and extra side jobs he could get on the weekend, when Bea and Georgi weren’t home.
Whenever Olifar got money, he went to the bank as soon as he could, or he would risk it being stolen by bullies or found by his aunt, who liked to snoop around his room while he was at school.
The only thing keeping him from leaving was his age. Getting a job and a house was exceptionally hard if you were under the age of 17, and he was only 15.
Olifar apologized again and excused himself, making his way upstairs to his room and putting his bag away. Since he had finished all his homework at school, he decided to relax and listen to music while he waited for the inevitable beating he would get.
Setting an alarm when he got home had become a habit, so he could clean up his room and hide his expensive and breakable things before Georgi came home. Olifar checked the time and saw he had two more hours before his uncle would get off work, and another half hour after that until he got home.
So Olifar put in his earbuds, and started drawing.
Clean up didn’t usually take long, but he wanted to leave enough time so he could be done in case Georgi got home faster than usual, so he decided to start cleaning in an hour and a half.
When he heard the front door open a whole hour before Georgi was supposed to get off work, Olifar was understandably shocked. He only had one thought before he heard uncle storm up the stairs with a drink in one hand and slam his door open so hard it cracked a hole in the already dented wall, and that was,
‘CRAP’.
Olifar had never seen his uncle this angry. That was not good. He looked back towards the closed window, then to the door where Georgi stood there fuming, and knew he had no chances of escape this time.
Something bad must have happened at work, and now he was going to take out all his rage on Olifar.
“What are you doing, brat?” His uncle narrowed his eyes at the drawings and earbuds, then stomped over and snatched them both away from him.
“Drawing some shitty little pictures? They’re trash, you should throw them all away, just like we should have thrown you away!” Georgi sneered. He strode to the window and opened it, throwing his drawings out, along with the earbuds that were yanked out of his phone.
He heard them plop into the water.
Well, there goes another wasted pair of perfectly new earbuds...
As his uncle's back was turned, Olifar saw his chance to get away, and made a break for the door. He heard Georgi turn around and yell, but when he reached the doorway something smashed into his head, toppling him to the hallway floor.
Olifar couldn't comprehend what had just happened. Georgi had never thrown anything at him. Just kicked him while he was sleeping or grabbed him so hard he bruised.
Everything was growing dim, and he felt thick blood trickle down his neck and behind his ear, dripping onto the floor. He heard a woman scream, but his head was full of cottonballs, and he couldn’t remember who that voice belonged to.
Sounds familiar...
Where am I again?
Everything hurts…
His back was starting to sting and he felt an immense pressure on his head and neck, and felt his lungs burning from the lack of oxygen. Seconds felt like hours, until everything became numb and faded away. The last thing he heard before blacking out was a thunderous crack, the thud of a body, and the woman talking to someone on the phone.
a/n- Here are some things that weren't explained! This story takes place on a fictional ocean planet called Traetys(try-ay-tis), which has two suns- Kish(larger) and Hosh(smaller). Temperatures can reach 170F during the stir and drop to as low as 20F at set. orbit=year(195 stirs in one orbit), stir=day(one stir has 38 hours), set=night(set on average lasts 15 hours). There are 4 orbits of first school(starts at age 7), 4 orbits of second school(starts at age 11), and 3 orbits of third school(starts at age 15, graduate at 17).
Olli didn't have a very good childhood, but it will get better, don't worry!😊
