"The professor told me that you have a problem with control so let's start with that." Said Maeda.
"How am I gonna do that?" Tekashi asked.
"Imagine an egg in a microwave. You are the microwave and the egg is your magic. You want to cook the egg without overdoing it and making it explode." She said.
"I'll try." He said.
He closed his eyes and concentrated on imagining he was cooking an egg. He held out his hand and lightning started to appear.
But just when he thought he had control the lightning once again went crazy and Maeda said "Stop!"
"Dang it. I overcooked the egg." He said.
"That's Ok. Keep practicing. You'll get the hang of it soon." She reassured him.
After a few hours of practice, Tekashi started to gain control. A small bolt of lightning hovered in his palm and he looked up Maeda with a big smile.
"Looks like I'm getting the hang of it." He said.
"Well done! Let's take a break and get something to eat." She said.
He nodded and they walked down to the lobby and exited the hotel.
"Where do you wanna go?" He asked.
"Hm. Oh! I know! This way, c'mon!" She said as she grabbed his hand to drag him along.
As they arrived in front of a restaurant, Tekashi said "I didn't expect you to tug me along. I can walk on my own y'know."
Maeda realized what she had done and turned away to hide her blushing.
"I, uh, just really like this restaurant's food." She said.
"Right. Anyway, let's grab a table." He said.
They headed inside and a waiter led them to a table on the balcony.
"Wow! What a view!" Tekashi said.
"The balcony is my favorite spot to eat." She said.
They sat down and ate a delicious meal all the while chatting about all sorts of things.
As the sun set, Tekashi paid the bill and they walked back to the hotel.
As they entered the elevator, Tekashi said "Today was fun. Thanks for the date."
A surprised look washed over Maeda.
"W-what!? I-I don't...but...y-yeah." she said as her face was beet red.
"So tomorrow. More practice and maybe lunch?" He asked.
She smiled and said "Ok. I can't wait!"
They separated ways as the elevator opened and went to their rooms.
Tekashi closed the door behind him and said "Yes! I've scored big! The boys would be so proud of me!"
His smile quickly faded as he thought of everyone who was gone.
"I hope I can get back home someday." He said as a big yawn escaped his mouth and he collapsed on his bed drifting into a deep sleep.
As the sun gleamed through the curtains, Tekashi rolled over and got out of bed.
"Another great day ahead of me!" He said.
Just then the whole building shook. Books flew off shelves and dinnerware smashed against the floor.
"What was that?" He said.
The building shook again more violently than before. Then it stopped.
"I hope that's the end of it." He said.
But then the building started to collapse. Tekashi rushed out of his room and made his way to the stairs. Concrete and metal started to rain from above as he flew down the stairs and barely made it to the lobby. As he ran outside he turned around to see the building coming down. Next to the building about several stories up was a man floating in the sky. His arms were outstretched as if he was the one responsible for bringing down the building. He then disappeared as the building crumbled to pieces. Hotel staff and police were counting people and helping those who were injured.
"I'm glad everyone seems safe." Tekashi said to himself.
But then his eyes widened.
"What about Maeda?!" He said.
His eyes darted around but didn't see her anywhere. He walked up to one of the police and asked how many people he counted. Apparently, the hotel had a total of 75 people and they only counted 73. Tekashi paced back and forth waiting for more officers to emerge with the last two people. Finally, after ten minutes two officers carried a man to one of the ambulances.
He ran up to them and asked "Did you see anyone else?"
The officer shook his head and said "Sorry. He's the only one we found. The building is starting to completely collapse and we can't let any more men go in there for safety."
Tekashi grew angry.
"But there's one more girl still in there! You have to find her!" He said.
"It's too late. We've saved everyone else and that's what matters. One life isn't worth several trying to look for her." The officer said.
Tekashi couldn't believe that the officer just said that. He slapped the officer across the face and dashed towards the building but just as he was approaching, several other officers pinned him down and restrained him from moving.
"No! Noooo!" He yelled.
Then the building made crumbling sounds. Everyone grew silent as the building plummeted to a heap of rubble. Tekashi turned white and he couldn't control his tears. Sparks started to come from his hands until they were full bolts of lightning and just like before he lost control. Lightning strikes were everywhere and hitting everything.
In the midst of it all, he remembered Maeda's words during training. "...You want to cook the egg without overdoing it and making it explode."
He cleared his mind and took a deep breath. The lightning slowly dissipated and then stopped. Now very tired from exerting that much power as well as being mentally damaged, he fell over and passed out.
Tekashi slowly woke up in a hospital.
"Ahh. Ouch." He said as he sat up.
He had a slight headache and a few bruises but was mostly unharmed. The TV was showing the news about the fall of the building.
He reached over, grabbed the remote, turned up the volume, and heard "...And it is just a tragic disaster. Who would have thought they would strike again so soon? We've got a report saying that out of 75 people who were in the building, 74 survived. One remains missing but the police have said they thoroughly combed the rubble and haven't found any sign of the last person."
Tekashi breathed a sigh of relief.
"She could still be alive then." He told himself.
Somewhere in a secluded hideout…
"What have you brought us today, brother?" Said someone.
The man who destroyed the building came into view and said "Quite a catch. I found her in a hotel trying to hide from us. Too bad I found her. Now she will be with us...forever."
