Evy hated moving. Hopefully this was the last time, but you never knew with your dad in the military. She stepped into her new school, trying her hardest not to get too attached. It was her final year anyway. It sucked that she had to learn how to navigate this new environment and had to pass her exams at the same time. She had already had some summer classes to catch up to the homework, but there were barely any students then. This time was different.
Evy had blonde hair that was slightly wavy on the day after showering, with a single pink strand on the left. It reached just past her shoulders. She wished she could grow it longer, but those genes were passed on to her younger sister. The pink was her meek rebellion, anything else she wore was plain boring. Grey sweater with a black skirt over grey tights.
She sighed. Soon she would be eighteen, free to leave her parents’ home and ready to spread her wings. Being a closeted bisexual girl wasn’t easy, not with parents like hers. To them everything was either black or white. She had only ever brought over one boyfriend before, a pretentious nerd who only dated her to get closer to her older sister.
Speaking of boyfriends, she was single again. Ian had broken up just before she moved, saying he was not comfortable with a long distance relationship. Evy could understand, though it had still hurt. It was never fun to have your heart broken over something she couldn’t control.
Another sigh and she closed her locker. It had gotten quite busy already. She stuffed the books for the day in her backpack and headed to class. In the crowd some people stood out to her. Not the preppy kids flaunting daddy’s money or the nerdies with their noses stuck in books, but the kids that really stood out. Emos, goths and her favorite: Lolitas. No no, not the book version, but the girls in frilly, poofy dresses, with lace to die for. Evy had a soft spot in her heart for alternative clothing styles and she was set on becoming a fashion designer as soon as she could escape this hellhole called school.
Unfortunately this school only had three people that would fall in the alternative category so far. A girl with blue hair and two guys that looked to have stepped out of a vampire manga. She had only caught a glimpse of them, but they seemed to know each other. The rest of the school was just plain boring, nothing new for a small town. She was plain boring. Ugh.
She went on her way to the first class of the day. Biology. Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. If she ever had to summarize biology, it would be that. She sat down in an empty chair in the back and waited for the class to fill with students.
After a few moments the blue haired girl she had seen earlier in the hallway approached her. She wore a slimfit black and white striped dress that showcased the bit of curve she had. Her hair was cut in a bob cut, her black roots showing at the back of her head. Simple silver earrings pierced her ears.
“Hi, I’m Liv. Are you new here?”
Evy nodded and shook the hand the girl had offered her.
“You prefer the back of the class too, huh? What’s your name?”
“Evy.”
Liv smiled and sat down next to the plain Jane. Now that she was closer, Evy could see that the girl was wearing colored contacts. Purple.
“Evy sounds like an interesting name,” the girl noted.
“Yours too.”
The teacher walked in and closed the door, then started the roll call.
“You have to hear my full name,” Liv whispered, “Please don’t ever call me my full name.”
“Livette Chen?”
“Here!”
The goth girl leaned over to Evy again.
“See?”
Evy grinned, already liking her.
Before she knew it, the class was over. Evy and Liv parted ways after promising to have lunch together. On to Math it was. Luckily math wasn’t too difficult for her.

Evy looked around as she entered the class. Most seats were already taken, there were only a few spots in the front and one in the back. No way she was sitting in the front. She decided to take the empty seat in the back, next to a familiar face. It was one of the vampire boys.
“Hey, I haven’t seen you before.”
He shifted in his seat to look up at her, the chain on his snug fitting black jeans clinking against the chair’s metal as he did so. His short silver dyed hair matched his light grey eyes and was a stark contrast to his dark blue cowl-necked shirt. Cowls were an other thing that made her designer heart weak.
“Ah yeah, I just moved into town. My dad is in the military so we move around a lot.”
The guy nodded. She noticed that he had a small mole above his right eyebrow. It also made her realize he was wearing a thin line of eyeliner, making his eyes stand out even more.
“I get that. I’m Evan by the way.”
“Evy.”
“Hello Evy.”
His smile was drop dead gorgeous and Evy felt her heart skip a beat. She was glad Math was her forte, otherwise she would have a hard time understanding the material with such a distraction.
Finally the bell rang. Evy said her goodbyes to the good looking guy and paid the bathroom a visit before she went on to the cafeteria to meet Liv. She splashed some water on her still slightly flustered face and when she felt ready, she went on her way.

Liv was not hard to spot. Besides her hair being a dead giveaway, the tables around her were pretty empty. Nobody wanted to sit close to the weird kids, huh? Always the same.
Though upon closer look the girl wasn’t quite alone. On her right sat the boy from Math class, deep into a conversation with an other guy across the table. This guy stood out of the crowd like a sore thumb, even more so than the other two. His long black hair was definitely dyed and had a slight purpley glow to it. He wore a red sweater with woven-in holes that showed the black fabric underneath and a pair of black, wide legged pants. Those were hard to get the last few years.
There was a bit of a tan to his skin that set off his many piercings nicely. Eyebrow, ear, bottom lip. Any more? Evy had to shake her head to make the daydream go away.
“Oh hey, Evy!” Liv shouted across the room and waved.
Evy approached the group. Evan waved too.
“Nice seeing you again,” he said.
“Oh, you two have met already?”
Evy nodded.
“I met him in Math class.”
“Ugh my least favourite,” Liv grunted. The long-haired guy laughed, it was a slightly raspy laugh.
“Liv, you hate every subject,” He then looked at Evy and introduced himself, “Hi, I’m Jamie. Nice meeting you.” Jamie put on a similar captivating smile as Evan had done.
“I’m Evy! N-nice meeting you too!” Evy stumbled just a bit over her words. Just a bit. She shook his hand and then sat down next to him, trying to hide the upcoming blush with her hair. Evan pushed a finger against the guy’s forehead.
“Quit being the charmer, Jamie.”
“Oh quit yourself. You’re just as bad.”
Liv grinned. “You two shut up and let the girl eat already, will you?”
“Yes Ma’am,” both guys said in unison.
After a bit of casual chatter, Liv looked at Evy. There was something on her mind, Evy noticed, but the question she eventually asked was more reserved.
“Hey, have you already decided on what club to join?”
The blonde shook her head.
“No, all the ones I’ve seen advertised sounded kinda boring. I had hoped for a sewing club to be honest, but there’s none.”
“What about the occult club?”
“The what?”
“The occult club. Jamie, Evan and me are in it. Well, we’re actually the only members. Thing is, we need one more extra to keep the club running. Last year one of our club members graduated, so we’re down to three now.”
To be honest, Evy had always liked the unconventional, the odd, the weird. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea. And besides, she was starting to like the trio.
“Sure, count me in!”
The blue-haired girl clapped her hands together. “Great! I’ll get the form ASAP and we look forward to having you!”
The guys, who had caught up to the conversation, nodded.
“At least now Liv has somebody else to gossip with,” Evan remarked.
“Shut your trap.”
Evy grinned at the interaction. Yup, she definitely liked these people already.
