Despite previous events, that night's watch went uneventfully, apart from a short scare when she thought a wild animal had gotten into camp. It turned out that it was simply Nase snoring.
With that mystery solved, Anatheia went back to her quiet watch until everyone woke up for breakfast. Since they had so much deer, that was what they had. It was a quick and hearty deer stew flavored with some ingredients found in the surrounding woods the night before, as well as seasonings that Nase brought in his cooking pack.
Once the meal was out of the way, camp was packed up, and the defenses lifted, they got under way. Surprisingly, most of their return to the city was uneventful. Realizing they would be coming upon other people soon, Anatheia revealed her hand and showed she had Deceive by changing her race. With the pointed ears of her race, she looked much like the elves when her wings were hidden, so that was the race she went with.
“I suggest we don't speak of my true race. It might cause too much of a stir if a new angel suddenly arrived in the city,” Anatheia suggested the group practice discretion. It was less for the reasons she stated, more because she might need to keep a low profile. This was especially true if her past life had any sort of issues or problems with it.
Life...lives? Gods I'm, still not sure, she thought. Luckily the party agreed with her, though Olena stared at her intently, even more than she had been recently. After a short time, they reached the main road and fell in with a caravan of other people, traveling peddlers and their guards. They talked of news from the surrounding areas.
“There are still those damn attacks by a pack of monsters along the high road! Entire caravans have been destroyed, and the city is doing nothing about it,” one of the caravan peddlers exclaimed. He was an older fellow, but none of the others went to correct him, so Anatheia assumed he was telling the truth.
“Sounds like fun, what do you say Marcos, want to kill some monsters for fame and fortune?” Ana teasingly asked the party leader. She knew his probable response, but she figured she would ask anyways.
“Those are best left to the experienced adventurers. If they took out a extermination squad sent by the Guard, they are doubtless too strong for us lowly adventurers at the moment. However, for someone of your caliber, I am sure they would be nothing,” Marcos explained, before throwing out the last line with a sneer. She shot a warning look at the man, lest he say something he regret.
I knew I would have to keep a tight rope on this one's neck. Maybe he'd look better in chains, she smiled sadistically, releasing some of her pent up blood lust, and Marcos got the message, as did most of the caravan.
“What has that? It felt like a high tier's gaze, but it covered the whole caravan,” one of the peddlers muttered. Ana smiled discreetly, no need to let anyone know it was her. Except Marcos knew, and that was exactly what she wanted.
Turning to the peddlers, she inquired, “So what are you bringing to the city? Anything fun?” The peddler shook his head.
“Mainly just supplies for the city and metals for the smiths. Even if they use a lot of materials from the adventurers, some materials are more easily produced via mining. But look at me explaining that to you! You probably know that already being an adventurer,” he replied, happy to take his mind off of her show of blood lust. She had not really known that, so his knowledge was great.
The rest of the ride was nice, filled with conversation and tales of the trail. She made a few friends among the peddlers and promised that she would pay them a visit when they were in the city.
The city itself was called Seldea, and was considered something of a starting city for young or fresh adventurers. The city's flag was emblazoned with a modified symbol of the Goddess of Light. The symbol was gold on white, and the border was trimmed in gold as well.
Apparently many adventurers maintained residences in the city even though it was a low level area. The teleport gates to other cities made it easier to come back home on a moment's notice.
At the gates of Seldea IDs were checked, and since she didn't have one, she was directed to a building off to the right of the gate. Marcos grinned seeing her separated from the group, but she guaranteed she would be right back and asked them to wait for her.
“Don't wander too far dears,” Anatheia chimed sweetly as she walked to the Guardhouse.
“Alright lass, what can I do for you?” A burly man asked as he finished up a piece of paperwork he was working on. He was sitting at a small desk in the small building, though everything seemed small next to this man.
“Nice to meet you sir, I am Anatheia. I am looking to get a new ID issued. I just came in from the field, and it seems my identification became lost along the way,” she said, pouring all her charm into a smile. The man was stunned for a second before shaking his head.
“Sure, just give me a second lass. M'name's Pyt, and I'm one of the Guard Captains for the city. We also happen to handle administrative tasks such as these,” he explained as he prepped paperwork for her to fill out.
Once the paperwork was ready, he assisted her through the paces of filling it out. Sure they had the system, but having paper records of who was in the city was useful as well. Especially if someone suddenly disappeared using skills. The paperwork only took around 5 minutes to help thanks to the expert help of Pyt.
“Thank you so much Captain Pyt, I really appreciate your help,” Ana chimed up at the tall man.
The blushing giant of a man replied, “Aw think nothing of it Lass. Now, instead of going through the main gate you can take this side door now. It makes it easier on everyone frankly. I'll mark you down as having entered.”
Thanking him one last time, she entered through the side gate that he indicated, and found her way to the main road through the city. On the main road she heard a commotion.
“Again Marcos, we refuse to go on without her! She is a vital member of this party now, whether you like that or not,” the voice of Lilith rang out in anger. Marcos laughed dryly.
“You think she would stay? She herself said it was only temporary until we reached the city. She has business to attend to. Why else would someone like her be somewhere like here?” Marcos shot back with a rhetorical question. Ana saw as Lilith deflated a bit, She was going to start crying again. Gods why was this girl able to jerk her around with these shows of emotion?
She strode up to the fight, and before Lilith could begin crying, Anatheia wrapped her in a hug. She buried the girls head in her chest, and glared at Marcos again. Then she turned her eyes on Olena whose smile had just left her face.
Again, this one is dangerous. I do not like the feel I get around her, Ana thought to herself before turning on Marcos again.
As she comforted Lillith, she tore into him, “I said I was going to split with the party, but perhaps my mission became less important than something in this party. Perhaps, my mission is the party. Any way you look at it, I won't be leaving.”
“But...what could an A-” She glared at him as he almost slipped up.
He corrected himself, “What could someone like you want here?”
“That is my business, either way, you need me, and I blend with your party fairly well. I won't take no for an answer,” Ana stressed, making sure Marcos knew there would be no more argument.
