I woke, hissing at the bright fluorescent lights, the light searing into my retinas. "How are you feeling?" I hear the voice of the school nurse. I cover my eyes with my hands, the bright light causing a headache to begin to pound behind my eyes.
"Like actual crap," I muttered.
"I figured you might have had a mild concussion, I heard you had a pretty nasty fall earlier in the cafeteria." She explained I hear her shuffling around. "Here, kid." She said, prompting me to open my fingers and look at her. She's holding out a glass of water and a few pills in her hand. I grab them from her, squinting because of the light in the room. "This should take care of your pain until you heal from the fall."
"Thank you," I said before putting the pills in my mouth. I swallowed them down and took a sip of water to make sure they went down.
"I recommend you probably take off school tomorrow and have your parents or someone come pick you up today." She recommended. Yeah, parents… I love them and all, but they're always away with pack business, attending council meetings and stuff. I hardly ever see them, it's not their fault either, it's what keeps a roof over my head and food in my stomach. "Schools about to end as well, if you want I can call your parents to come and get you." She suggests. I sat up on the edge of the bed and shook my head.
"I'll figure it out, thank you though. Am I free to leave?" I asked, not wanting to be in the halls after school lets out due to the noise. If it was just the two of us and I was already slightly irritated, I could only imagine the sound of hundreds of students around.
"I suppose," I stand up, and I look around the room for my bag, but it's nowhere in sight.
"Um," I hesitantly said. "Where's my bookbag?" I asked the nurse.
"Oh, our young Alpha and your friends took it with them, I think one of the little Omega's said they knew your locker code." She explained. Alexandre? Why was he here? The last thing I could remember was my friends holding onto me before I started drowning in darkness.
"Thank you," I replied before heading out of the nurse's office. I looked at one of the digital clocks on the wall, indicating that there was still 15 minutes left until school got out. I made my way down the halls, heading toward my locker. I dialed my code and opened it to find my backpack. My keys were hanging on the hook as well. My wallet was sitting on top of my Pack history book, well there's one thing I was worried about this morning…
I shut the locker door softly, trying to avoid any loud sounds at the moment. I glanced up at the clock, having 7 minutes until the final bell rings, and the halls would flood with wolves. I just need to make it outside and find Raven's car. That's all I need to do. I groggily stumble my way out of the school, ready to go home and just go to sleep. I approached Raven's beat-up sedan. He was so proud of his hunk of junk, gave it its own name and everything. I lean up against "Ralph," waiting for the last few minutes of school to blow by, slowly creeping forward. Soon people start to pour from the doors of the school. I saw a big fluff ball of red hair skipping her way toward the car, followed by a gloom and doom Raven.
"How are you feeling?" Ella asked as she approached the car. "You knocked right out." She stated.
"Mild concussion." I closed my eyes, the noise outside starting to build up, my irritation doing the same. "Raven, can you please take me home?" I plead not wanting to be outside any longer.
"After that nasty fall, hell yeah." He explained. "Did you know you were bleeding from the mouth and stuff? I swear the Alpha almost doubled back and whooped Spencer's ass. I mean, he would deserve it in the end but still."
"Why did the Alpha help?" I asked, looking at the odd two.
"You're really fuckin' heavy; we're only Omega's, so we almost dropped your ass. He offered to help us take you to the nurse, I mean we can't deny our one big hunky Alpha, now can we?" Ella wags her eyebrows. "I may or may have not snuck a peek at his eyes too, G-A-W-D let me tell you they're the brightest blue eyes you'll ever see in your life. They're a close second to your beautiful peepers." She motioned to my eyes. My eyes were nothing special, they were a mossy green color. She would continuously tell me she would kill to have my eye color.
"I'm not heavy," I muttered, pursing my lips.
"Bull-" Raven started.
"Shit." Ella finished for him. "Dude, you almost pulled us down with you."
"Whatever just drive me home Raven, I just want to go to bed." I let out a whine.
"Nope, you're eating before I take you home." He explained, making me whine even louder. "Knowing you, you didn't even eat breakfast because you sleep through all 12 of your alarms and barely made it out of the door to make it to school." Although he was right about all of that, I still just wanted to sleep; I was absolutely exhausted from today's endeavors.
"Oh, can we have McDonald's?" Ella chimed in from the back seat. "I heard they have these new cheesy bacon fries, y'all know I fucks with some cheesy bacon fries."
"Sounds good to me," Raven said, looking over to me, shrugging his shoulders.
"Whatever gets me home faster?" I groaned, leaning my head back against the headrest.
---
We pulled up to my house, got out of the car, I grabbed my bag of greasy food and my backpack. Of course, Raven and Ella decided they would skip school tomorrow and stay the night with me. Which would be nice. They haven't stayed the night in a few months since the incident happened where I was attacked. They stayed with me the entire week after I had gotten out of the infirmary, helping me change my bandages and complete other remedial tasks. They're the best friends I could only ask for. They're the dream team. When that all happened, my parents were only allowed to come home the day it happened, then the Alpha had ordered them to go to another pack down south and settle a deal for crops or some shit. It was more important than their kid, who almost bled to death in the woods, but I didn't want to think about that at the moment. I just needed to eat and get to bed. My two shit head friends could do whatever, but I needed sleep.
Once we're in the house, I made my way into the den and set my food on a TV tray, I grabbed the remote flipping it to Netflix. Putting it on a random show, leaving it on as background noise.
"I can't believe someone intentionally tried to trip you; like you'd figure, they'd try to trip Raven because he's a little shit," Ella said with a wad of fries in her mouth.
"Oh, kindly fuck off Ella," Raven mumbles under his breath, giving her the finger.
"I'm dead serious though, you are a little shit, Raven." She snickered, shoving another fork full of fries into her mouth, chewing obnoxiously loud. It usually wouldn't get to me, but the concussion made it worse.
"I don't know why they did it all. To be honest, it only made my day shittier than what I wanted it to be." I picked up a single fry and popped it in my mouth.
"I mean since Alpha Kent took over the pack, he's been harsher on those who fuck with Omega's," Raven explained. "I'm shocked someone had the gall to do it in front of our future Alpha. My dad said when Alpha Kent's ruled over the pack Omega's were treated differently, he told me he was glad I was born when I was."
"You know some people don't agree with our Alpha, they won't say it out loud, but they'll do shit he doesn't like," I said, looking Raven in his eyes.
"Dude that's like asking for death, have you seen the man's wolf form? He's freakin' huge, the same for Alexandre's form. Like we're chihuahua's compared to them." Ella makes the comparison, I chuckled at her description and nod in agreement.
"I bet I could beat him in a race, though," Raven smirked, wagging his eyebrows at us. "I do have to say that I am pretty quick on my paws when running."
"Whatever, we're all fast, it's a part of our Omega DNA; it lets us run away from shit instead of facing it head-on." Ella huffed out. "And defying what the Alpha has to say? That's like challenging him, which is very fucking ignorant. We're in the largest pack of all time, let alone we're in the number one pack in the states, and the number two in the world. Like that's extra stupid to try and challenge the Alpha. I think what, a handful of dominant wolves have challenged him to become Alpha of the pack, and they got extra fucked up. Our Alpha was also merciful in the end, he let them live to see another day. I hear that the Alpha in the number one pack in Germany kills all who challenge him. Fuckin' wack if you ask me." I nodded in agreeance with her, hearing of those same tales of the Number One pack in the world. The Alpha was not merciful to those who dare defy him.
Sometimes the offenders that have fought our Alpha in our pack barely walked away with their life. Our Luna was usually the one to stop him from letting his wolf take entirely over and killing them; she was the kindest of them all. They were already putting her in the textbooks from the good deeds she had done. She was like the submissive wolf version of the United Kingdom's human princess, exuding grace and poise. I sometimes want to believe that she's the reason why the Omega's in our pack were treated with higher respect than other packs. Some people theorize it's because her younger brother is also an Omega. I always thank the Goddess above that I was born in this pack and not another.
"Enough of that topic," I say. "Did y'all grab my homework from the last few classes?" I ask hoping that they managed to round up all my homework, so I didn't fall behind again.
"Teachers excused you for today and tomorrow," Raven said, popping a chicken nugget in his mouth. "I wish I could get out of doing school work." He sighed, leaning back on the couch and letting his headrest on the top of the cushion.
"Hey, I don't mind doing homework. Unlike you two scavengers, even when I was out of school for those weeks while my scars were healing, I still managed to do my homework and keep caught up. Unlike you two who deliberately skipped school for a whole week, although I am very grateful y'all helped me out, I'm still mad that y'all missed out on your schoolwork because of me." I took a bite of my burger.
"Well, if we didn't help you, you'd be lying in that bed with an infection, dead as fuck." Ella explained.
"Whatever bitch." I sighed, rolling my eyes at my firey friend.
"You love me bitch." She responded by sticking her tongue out. Raven makes a sound of agreement to that statement.
"I do love you bitches, you stupid, ignorant bitches." I laughed before I got hit in the face with a chicken nugget.
"Bitch." Raven laughed.
"Anyways, I'm done with my food I'm going to actually get a shower and get to bed, I feel like shit, and I don't intend to stay that way for too long." I get up from the couch, making my way to my bedroom upstairs. I grabbed my pajamas and my speaker. I head to the bathroom, sitting my belongings down on the vanity. I flip the speaker on, pulling my phone out of my pocket to put my playlist on when I noticed a phone notification.
Mom: Hey, I got a call from the school that there was an incident, is everything alright? Do I need to come home?
I sighed replying. Me: Yea mom, I'm fine, no need to come home. I responded.
I didn't bother waiting for a response, knowing I would probably get a text back in the morning. I put my music on, before turning on the shower to let the water heat up. I pulled off my clothes and stare at myself in the mirror. There were three large gashes on my pale chest. I ran my fingers on the raised skin, I frowned, hating the way I looked now. I look at my face, it wasn't anything too special. Besides my eyes, my hair was light brown, the top of my head had longer hair, my curls would sometimes fall in my face, and my sides were shaved down. My wolf form had the same hair color with a white underbelly, common for most Omega's. I had a soft jawline like a baby's and strong cheekbones that defined my face.
My wolf was still hiding after what had happened all of those months ago. I assumed he still needed time to recuperate, I missed him, and I hoped he came back soon. Despite my fear of getting close to the edge of the pack lands, I still missed running through the fields, the feeling of the earth beneath my paws, the wind in my fur. I would probably never go alone again, as well.
Once the mirror started to fog up, signaling that the water was hot enough to get into the shower. The warm water made my muscles relax, almost enough to make me want to sleep, my head still pounding from my fall earlier in the day.
Once I had gotten out of the shower, exhausted from today. I quickly put on my pajamas, ready to curl up in my bed. When I step out of the bathroom and make my way to my room, dumb and dumber were on my bed watching a show.
"For fucks sake, y'all couldn't have watched that in the living room?" I whined, just wanting to get to bed. Alone.
"You bet your tight ass we could watch it in there, but y' know it's comfier in here", Ella said, wiggling her legs up in the air. "Don't worry, we promise to be quiet." She promised, holding out her pinky, Raven following suit.
"Y'all better," I pause. "This time, please refrain from drawing dicks on my face, please," I emphasize the second, please, having to beg them not to be idiots.
"I can't make any promises, but we'll try our best not to." Raven let out a laugh.
"Fuckers," I mumble under my breath before climbing into the bed and bundling up under the covers. Tucking my head into a pillow, I covered half of my face with the blanket. It didn't take long for me to be pulled into sleep, my body exhausted from today's events.
