“I’m cold,” Sarah whined, tugging on the sleeve of her sweatshirt like a child. Her curly reddish-brunette hair blowing in the wind, out from underneath her beanie, the only part of her Korean physique that she liked.
“Well, you should’ve brought your jacket then,” Leila smirked slyly at her, waiting for it to elicit a response. Though she quickly changed her mind, unbuttoning her own oversized coat and pulled in the girl between her arms, covering her with the front of the coat. Sarah was cute, Leila liked her figure, from her tiny stature and chubby cheeks and hips to her small but quaint breasts.
“Hey! Is this just an excuse for you to hold me? You don’t actually want me to warm up, do you?”, Sarah protested dismally as she snuggled in.
Leila looked down at Sarah, whose head was nestled into her chest and rolled her eyes at the assumption. “And to think I have offered my boobs to you, the warmest part of my body.”
Sarah pouted to herself but snuggled in further nevertheless, her eyes looking out of the top of the coat and off into the trees as Leila started at a waddle, chuckling to herself as she quickly realised how difficult it was to move, encumbered by the small girl at her chest.
“The cabin is fairly close,” Leila said with a grin, as they walked on quietly.
“It’ll be warm, won’t it?”, Sarah muttered, her voice partially muffled my Leila's right breast.
“Oh…” Leila chuckled again. “Not right away, I wouldn’t imagine. Need to start a fire.”
“A fire?!”, Sarah sounded astonished.
“Yeah, though I imagine we could find some… other ways to warm up.”
Leila could feel the blush on Sarah’s face, simply from how quiet she had become and how tilted Sarah's head went further into her bosom, though decided not to push it. The pair still wasn’t quite sure about whatever this could be. When Leila invited her old friend out to her family’s cabin in the mountains, Sarah had accepted happily and vibrantly since they both knew they had a lot to… discuss after that kiss they had shared only weeks before. They hadn’t even had alcohol to blame for it either.
The cabin came into full view, a warm and welcoming sight through the snow and trees. Sarah untangled herself from Leila and moved off towards the clearing. Leila felt disappointed and her bosom felt lonely, but she didn't show it.
Leila gestured toward the cabin with a nod of her head. “Guess we’ll need to make a start then!” The smile Sarah shot back was… Stunning. Leila smiled back and noted with amusement that her face was still bright red. She couldn't help watch Sarah's embarrassment and flushed cheeks. However, she looked away. As she may be making it worse and Sarah didn’t seem to be able to give her a reply yet. So she focused her gaze up at the cabin, at the other end of the clearing. Leila had expected the lights to be off and no smoke rising out of the chimney. She thought they were going to be alone.
“Leila, are you expecting someone else there too?”, Sarah asked timidly. Obviously, she had noticed too.
“What-”, Leila started in surprise, turning away from the cabin. “No, I wasn’t expecting anyone. It may be-”
Before she could finish her sentence, a man’s head poked out from the cabin door. He had the same curly black hair, rich medium brown skin tone, and angular facial features as Leila. “I was wondering what happened to you,” the man called out to Leila. As they walked closer, he looked over at Sarah gleefully. “Is this her then? The one you’ve been talkin' about?”
“Nick!!”, Leila said, exasperation lending an edge to her voice. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
Nick merely responded with a laugh. He was a huge man. Shirt sleeves rolled back over hairy, muscled forearms and jeans tucked into practical boots.
“What’s so funny?”, Leila said, her eyebrow raised and crossing her arms.
“I was gettin' the fire started, that’s all,” Nick said, scratching his stubble and raising a hand defensively. He had a nice voice. Smooth and comforting, but at this particular moment, it made Leila cringe. “Figured you guys could use the rest. It’s your first-time hikin', right?” Nick was addressing Sarah.
“Yeah…” Sarah blinked, she looked a little confused.
“Well, thank you.” Leila sighed, taking Sarah gently by the arm and leading her into the cabin. She kicked snow from her boots and let Sarah walk in ahead of her. The smaller girl immediately let her breath out in relief.
“It’s so warm,” Sarah exclaimed, rubbing her arms.
Leila chuckled. “Get snuggled up next to the fire then.” She smiled at her. “Warm up.” Sarah grinned back, then went to sit right in front of the flames. Leila moved back towards the door and Nick shot her a wide smile. “Couldn’t help yourself, could you?”, Leila asked, leaning against the doorframe.
“What can I say?” Nick shrugged. “Bein’ a good wingman is its own reward.”
“You realise there’s always the chance nothing will happen, right?”
“Seein’ you two comin’ up that hill?” It was Nick’s turn to raise an eyebrow. “Sure there's not. Here, I’ll make you guys some food, while you get in out the cold.”
Leila observed him for a long moment before smiling and walking out of the way of the door, shrugging her shoulders out of the coat and tossing it onto the rack. She fell onto one of the ridiculously comfortable sofas and gazed at Sarah, who was leaning back on her hands in front of the roaring fire. Leila sighed as Nick disappeared into the kitchen to make some food, then worked at untying her boots. Sarah’s were already off and sitting off to the side.
“Nick’s a good cook,” Leila said softly with a smile. “We’re in good hands.”
“You know, it’s beautiful up here, really.” Sarah smiled back, she was clearly in a better mood now that she was out of the cold.
“Yes,” Leila said, grinning at the young woman being warmed by the fire. “Yes. It is.”
After Leila agreed with Sarah’s compliment, things fell silent. There was nothing more for Leila to say and Sarah didn’t know of anything either. Sarah turned back around to stare at the fire, rubbing her hands together before holding them up, palms towards the flames. A minute passed, not a sound. Except for the crackle of burning wood and the noises from Nick in the kitchen; cupboards banging and utensils clanging.
A few more wordless minutes passed. Warmth back in Sarah's rosy, rounded cheeks, she spun around on her knees, looking nervously towards the kitchen. Leila didn't think Sarah was able to see Nick but that didn't make her look any more nervous. “I, uh, what are we… that kiss a few weeks ago but then, not again… I am… what, what are we doing… what were you planning to… happen…”, Sarah asked a little awkwardly.
Leila was a little surprised at first by the sudden question. She sat forward on the couch, unsure of how to answer. “Well, I-”
“-Don’t worry, sorry for my question,” Sarah interrupted. “You don’t have to answer, I don’t know what I was thinking.” she turned around, back to the fire, her cheeks flushed. Nothing more was said.
The food was delicious, Leila had to admit.
Nick had given them a courteous nod before heading out of the cabin. Though he had shared a few words with Leila before leaving, mostly to tease her about being safe. Closing the front door after Nick had disappeared into the wilderness, Leila walked back into the living room. She was about to sit on the couch again but decided against it, hesitating a moment before hunkering down in front of the roaring flames next to Sarah.
“It’s…”, Sarah said, her cheeks were heating up and not from the flames. “It's really nice out here.”
“That it is,” Leila agreed softly, nudging closer to Sarah. “How was the food?”
“Amazing.” Sarah grinned, looking a little awkward as started into the fire. “He really is a good cook.”
“I was planning on making something but you know as well as anyone how disastrous my cooking can be.” Leila chuckled, her gaze flicking from Sarah to the flames.
“Oh it’s not that bad,” Sarah laughed along with her. “It could be a lot worse. At least it’s edible.”
“The height of compliments,” Leila snorted.
A few moments passed. The silence was a lot more comfortable than they had both been expecting. Leila was trying to get a read on her, she didn't look uncertain about this and definitely looked more beautiful than ever as her hair, beanie removed, was framed by the firelight.
“So…”, Sarah uttered, her voice low, her nerves jangling. “Are we gonna talk… about…?”
“If you feel we, like…” Leila sounded just as nervous. “We need to.”
“It’s just that.” Sarah looked at her feet. She started speaking faster, the more nervous she got. “Well, things could change… And I dunno. I feel like I’m not as worried about that as I thought I oughta be, and then it’s like, should I be worried about it? I feel like I’m overthinking things a little. I’ve always been bad for that, I’ve always been bad for overthinking thing–”
Sarah was cut off by Leila’s lips pressing against hers. Leila took Sarah’s chin between her fingers delicately and moved her head a little closer. Sarah seemed surprised at first, though after a moment she felt herself returning the kiss, hand moving up to Leila’s hair...
