Messaff: Hi, I'm Jakub also known as Messaff. I'm a massive comic and manga nerd who is currently making Double Crimson and Veteris Revelation (which is on hiatus).
Q1: When did you get the idea for Double Crimson?
Messaff: Originally I had an idea after reading Bleach for the first time that would be set in a world where everyone knew about demons and the main protagonist was trying to be the best like Naruto. But after uni and working my first serious job I began to relate to the struggle of trying to make money from anywhere I could. This influenced the idea and changed it to be more about that whilst retaining that shonen fight scenes feel.
Since this is my oldest comic idea that I have worked on for ages I am now cannibalizing ideas from my other comics and pooling it together to make this one special.
Q2: What inspired you to start making comics?
Messaff: I used to enjoy drawing as a kid and I used to spend hours looking at comic illustrations. Because of that I always followed illustration and comics. When I was a teenager I got into anime after seeing Cowboy Bebop the movie and that got me into manga. So when I was doing collage and uni I tried to learn illustration and to get a career as a comic artist. After that I got to know some comic artists, primarily Russell Mark Olson as we lived quite close to each other. So basically its something I have always been interested in making comics, its just that now I am actually making them.
Q3: How long do you think Double Crimson will be?
Messaff: If I play my cards right I have 6 arcs planned Including the current one. I want it to be very long and to end with the world/characters being completely different.
Q4: Who do you take major influence from when it comes to writing the story?
Messaff: I grew up with Bleach so its always a major influence on me, but more modernly I have taken influence from Peplum by Blutch for my quiet no dialog scenes, Jujutsu Kaisen and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for powers and I'm trying to base my art off of Tokyo Ghoul:re.
Q5: What are your hopes for the future of Double Crimson?
Messaff: I would like for the comic to get some traction. I would like to build a community that discusses and creates theories about where the story is going and for it to grow. I hope that when comic con opens up again I will make a stand where I will give away and sell the comic.
In the meantime however I will just hope to meet my millstones in terms of subscribers.
CM: It's been an honor interviewing you, anything you want to say to the readers before I end this?
Messaff: Thank you! Its been great fun and I would like say "I hope everyone enjoys whats coming next in Double Crimson"
