Samson - Present
Sunday is Samson’s favourite day of the week, especially Sunday mornings. The majority of people stays late in bed and just goes out for lunch or for a stroll after it. He likes to walk down the almost empty streets where, most of the time, he sees people who slowly go home after an all-night party or the ones that come out of an early Mass, elderly mostly.
Because the works in the bookshop finished ahead of time, he gladly has the opportunity to explore his new neighbourhood. The first golden rays of sunlight hit the leaves of the trees in the main avenue. The aroma of fresh brewed coffee hits his nose when he gets close to a café. Although he is starting to feel hungry, it is not exactly what he is aiming for. Because of some interesting details in buildings, he takes some pictures with his mobile phone. The sweet smell of a bakery makes him turn into a narrower street on the right. After many steps, there it is, almost at the end of the street. A soft bell warns the opening of the white wooden door. Looking around, he becomes surprised with the amount of articles he can choose from in such a small shop: big bread, small bread, long or round shaped, dark or white bread. Besides that, delicious cakes cut in slices, different shaped cookies and small pastry fill the eyes of any sweet tooth. Rena, name on her embroidered apron, welcomes Samson. The time he takes to choose something for breakfast is painful and he continuously asks for forgiveness for his indecision. After a while, she asks some questions about himself and with a smile she suggests one of the wholemeal bread and a couple of chocolate croissants for his roommates. In the paper bag she includes 3 little smiley face cookies as a welcome gift and promises to visit the bookshop soon. The bread is still warm and he is sorry that it will get cold while he buys the newspaper. Butter won’t melt on today’s slice of bread and toast it, is completely out of question.. Next time he will know better.
-Do you know if many immortals live in this area? - Radhi puts down the Sunday newspaper and looks at Samson’s reaction who had just given a first bite on his honey and butter slice of bread.
- According to Joe, there are many around here, some live as a community. I guess you sensed one yesterday evening like I did…
- Yeah… got curious and peeked… it was a girl… but she didn’t even turn around. Rude… - he picks up his coffee cup and proceeds with his reading.
- Don’t tell me that there is a woman who resists your charm… got to meet her… - Samson chuckles and slowly finishes his breakfast.
