“At ease.” The order came in between the fatigued breaths of Belzar.
Bathing beneath the cold, red light of the moon, the remaining soldiers under Lilith and Belzar’s command laid down their arms to rest in their triumph.
The corpses of countless knights began to pile up at the Legions feet, their blood served as sustenance to sate their hunger for victory. Though their numbers had dwindled down from the thousands to the two-hundreds, they had managed to stave off a coalition of numerically superior forces within the heart of a foreign land.
“Belzar, take what remains of the Legion of Wrath and retreat further into the city.” Lilith took a few paces forward as if to intercept something’s path. “It’s not safe here for any of you.”
“As you wish, Mistress Lilith.”
With the last of her own leaving the vicinity, Lilith, still maintaining her demon form addressed her guest, “There is no point in hiding in the shadows. Come. Say your piece.”
A gleam of light scintillated in the distance.
“Ah, there you--”
The crack of a sonic boom was followed by a devastating shockwave as a projectile ripped and tore into Lilith’s thigh, sweeping her off of her feet and onto the ground.
“Lilith... Primogenitor of the darkness on this land...” The voice reached her ears in a dull, growling tone. “King Solum does not take kindly to your unholy existence.” His audacious words were trailed by minor tremors on the earth where his feet fell.
Pushing the weight of her body off the cold cobblestone floor, she placed the sensation of pain into the back of her mind. “Heh... And what might I have possibly done to offend your King?”
The quaking of the ground grew stronger as he approached.
“You have committed a great number of atrocities against the Crown, Matriarch of a damned kin. However, your greatest sin of all, is having ever been born as the impure existence that you are.” Stepping out of the shadows of the buildings around him and into the crimson rays of moonlight, stood a terrific and monstrous being, whose likes of which resembled that of a colossal grizzly bear. “I will see to it that your transgressions do not go unpunished.”
Lilith stared blankly at Falxis, before letting out a series of maniacal laughter, “HA-HA! I... I’m sorry! Hee-hee! It’s just... How am I supposed to take the words of a giant teddy bear so seriously?! HA!”
Her childish response was met only with a deafening ursine roar, splashing saliva across her face and whipping her hair backward as if she stood in a hurricane.
Wiping the fluids off of her body and carefully readjusting her hair with her clawed fingers, “You are quite the repulsive beast...”
The two of them had quickly become locked in combat. The plaza, in which many men and women so valiantly died only a moment ago, had now become a playground for the destructive nature of Lilith and Falxis. Between both of their unhuman forms, it was a vicious battle, but well beyond the scope of what anyone could classify as conventional; ripping, biting, raking, slamming, throwing -- all were valid techniques to be utilized.
Sweat glistened on Lilith’s pale skin under the same moonlight that accentuated the horrible scene around her. Both Falxis and she were panting to catch their breath, denoting the physical exhaustion that spared neither of them.
In one final blow, Lilith thrust herself toward him. Falxis raised his massive paw to strike her down, but was met only with tooth and claw latched onto his arm. With no time to counter, she ripped and tore away at his flesh, separating his forelimb from the elbow.
“You’re wasting your time here,” Lilith spoke between her shallow breaths as she stepped back once more. “There is no possibility of a victory for you here tonight -- especially not when the blood moon hangs over me.”
With a hung head, Falxis gazed at the reflection of the moon from within the pool of blood beneath him, his severed arm lying off to the side.
“I see...” Reaching down, he retrieved his dismembered forelimb. Before walking away, he paused to let out a low groan, “Give Erelia my regards.”
The edges of Lilith’s lips began to curl with a demented pleasure. “I will...”
