In the morning Tom wakes up. It was 11.50 am. He felt strange and was wet like he had been sweating. He notices his boxer shorts were sticky as well. So, he gets up and immediately takes a shower. As he washes his body with some gel, he notices more red marks on his chest. Which were darker and bigger than before.
After coming out of the shower, he dries himself off, before gently rubbing some antiseptic cream on them. He next goes downstairs, where he sees James in the kitchen, who offers to make him some breakfast.
He asks Tom." Are you feeling better after last night?"
"What do you mean?" Replies Tom curiously.
James says "I heard you talking loudly in your sleep during the night. I don't know what you were saying, but you kept calling for 'Lucy'. I banged on your door to see if you were alright and the talking stopped."
Unnerved. Tom replies "I don't remember doing that."
As James inquires "Are you breaking up with Alice?"
Tom responds emphatically "I love Alice and I want to marry her!" And I have no idea who 'Lucy' is." As he warns James not to mention this to Alice.
James & Tom then start cleaning up the flat, which was a mess. After an hour or so there's a knock at the door, it was James's girlfriend Hannah who had come to pick him up.
"You're early!" Says James.
Hannah apologizes, as she walks back to her car which was parked outside. Tom tells James, not to worry about it, and he will finish cleaning up the flat. So James promptly shoots upstairs to pack his bags.
He briskly comes downstairs after a few minutes, quickly saying. "I'll see you in a week, and good luck with Alice."
As he rushes out the door slamming it shut behind him. Tom then starts washing the floor, with a mop and a bucket full of hot soapy water. He walks outside and pours the dirty water from the bucket down the drain. Coming back inside, Tom hears the sound of light footsteps like something was scurrying about upstairs.
Initially, he ignores it, but soon hears it again. Tom decides to go upstairs and find out where the footsteps were coming from. At first, he thought it might be James who had forgotten something. He calls out to him but receives no reply. Tom next hears some scratching noises coming from his bedroom door. After a pause, he opens it and looks inside but finds nothing out of the ordinary.
He says to himself, "It's probably rats."
As he quickly checks under the bed and behind his furniture, without finding any. Tom gets up, and looks at his watch, as he closes the bedroom door behind him, without seeing the scratch marks on the other side of it. Tom goes downstairs into the kitchen and prepares dinner for himself and Alice. And places it all in the oven, before leaving the flat to pick her up.
Tom leaves the flat and gets into his van. After switching on the engine, he looks at the fuel gauge noticing the van was low on petrol. So, he quickly heads to the gas station to fill up before collecting Alice. When he arrives at the train station, he sees Alice emerging from inside, wheeling a suitcase, as she starts looking around outside. Tom instantly flashes his headlights, as Alice sights him and smiles. She walks over to the van, as Tom quickly gets out, and hugs her, and they share a lingering kiss.
Tom places her suitcase in the boot. And they both get in the van and drive back to the flat. "I hope you weren't waiting too long" says Tom.
"No." Replies Alice. "I only just arrived before I saw you parked outside."
Tom asks Alice about her parents, she says. "They're fine, and they hope your doing well and wanted to know how you've done with your exams."
When they pull up outside the flat, they get out of the van and walk towards the front door. Tom unlocks it.
"Something smells nice!" Remarks Alice as they walk inside.
