Zephyr's eyes widen as soon as his brain registered the words written on the piece of yellow paper in his hand. He looked at the expressionless omega in front of him and back to the paper.
"D- divorce?!" He asked. An nodded. "But, why-" Zephyr didn't finish his sentence. He had already knew the answer to his own question.
"I'm sorry..." Zephyr whispered while looking down on the dining table. He was always regretted what he did to his wife during the three years they were married. If only he could turn back time and treat him better. Their married life would have been filled with happiness by now.
An didn't say anything. In fact, he didn't know what to say. He had been planning all this since last year. It was because of the promise he made with Zephyr's Granddad, Master Blakesley that he was willing to drag this until today. For three years he endured being ridiculed and hated by his own husband. Watching his own husband screwing another woman. Being ridiculed and disrespected by the very guy he was married to.
Lyla told him to give love a chance.
Lyla bet for the love to grow, but he bet on his own heart to die. And he won. He didn't even love the alpha (...maybe), but he was hoping that they would be happy together as a married couple. Now, the hope was gone.
Zephyr looked up and stared into his wife's amber eyes. It was the first time he really looked into An's face. He didn't notice it before, but the omega had the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen. But, those eyes had already lost its gleam.
A strong determination suddenly hit Zephyr. He gritted his teeth and stood up from his seat. An shifted his eyes in his direction when Zephyr dropped down on bended knees. Their eyes locked. Zephyr carefully reached for An's long, slender fingers and slowly held it into the palm of his huge hands. It was crazy how small the beautiful omega's hands were, compared to his.
An's eyes were staring directly into Zephyr's silver eyes, searching for the meaning of the alpha's actions.
"Can you please give me a second chance?" Zephyr asked with a trembling voice. His eyes reflecting anxiety and desperation, but among them, there were hope.
An swallowed the lump that was starting to form inside his throat. "You had three years, and the time's up. I don't want to waste any more time on something like this. Not anymore."
'Something like this'.
Zephyr felt like his world is crushing down. He just started getting to know An. During the last three months, he slowly fell in love with his wife, not knowing that this was what An had planned to do tonight.
On their third wedding anniversary.
Even after Zephyr tried to make up the two anniversaries he missed by making this night a special night for the two of them.
Zephyr learned how to cook for weeks and finally succeeded in making the dishes which they had eaten tonight. He even booked two tickets and planned a trip to a tranquil village that An might love to go. He knew An loves to live in nature, so he even secretly bought a cottage in the village so that they could spend their time together in that village whenever An wanted to get away from the city life.
Zephyr knew he shouldn't be selfish, but he didn't want to let his effort went to waste. He also didn't want to end their relationship like this. So, he rebuilt his resolve and grasped An's hands tightly.
"If you give me a chance to make it right, I promise that I will treat you better- much, much better than before. I will never hurt you or make you unhappy ever again. I'll do anything for you as long as you are happy."
"Even if I'm an 'emotionless freak'?" An asked. Zephyr flinched.
Ah. Zephyr did call him that before. He gritted his teeth, regretting all the harsh words he carelessly threw towards his wife.
"I'm sorry..." he silently said.
An could feel the trembles that came from Zephyr's hands. After a few seconds of silence, the alpha gripped his hands and said, "I know I don't deserve you. But, I want you to know something."
Zephyr raised his head, his serious eyes were looking directly into An's amber irises.
"You are not an emotionless freak. Even though a lot of people couldn't see it, I saw the emotions in your eyes. I can hear it clearly from your singing. You just expressed your emotions differently," said Zephyr with a serious face before he brought his omega's hands to his lips. A soft kiss landed on the back of An's hand. "And I love that part of you. It's what makes you, you."
An's amber orbs shaking with every words that the alpha said. He could feel his eyes heating up, but nothing came out of his eyes. An sighed in defeat. He knew that what he was going to say is stupid, but...
"Three years. I'll give you exactly three years from now."
Zephyr's eyes lighted up. "Really?! Thank-"
"After that, I'll decide whether to stay or leave."
Zephyr smiled while tears ran down his cheeks. That was good enough. He got up and brought An to his chest. An could hear Zephyr's heart beating loudly. He closed his eyes, taking in the warmth which he had always yearned for during this past three years.
Zephyr kissed the top of An's head a few times and said, "For another three years, I'll prove to you how much I came to love you. Even after that, I'll make sure to never stop making you the happiest omega in whole world!"
That was too big of a scale, An thought.
That night, Zephyr promised himself to treat his wife right. He didn't want to lose An. He wished to have beautiful children with An and if they live long enough, he wanted them to grow old together.
