The tour operator demanded an explanation. The local man subsequently hauls him aside and curtly explains why. That the great city on the island was called Pandora and was formerly known as a veritable paradise. There was no crime or evil on the island, and it had achieved incalculable wealth and status, from an abundance of precious stones that could be found there.
Legends even suggested the inhabitants found a way to commune directly with God! And the chief priests that ran the great city, could enhance their natural abilities and purge themselves of negative forces, using a jeweled sarcophagus. They would then place the dark energy into crystal boxes, which were stored to prevent their escape.
Then one day, a group of priests while performing the sacred ceremony, accidentally break several boxes. Inadvertently releasing the dark energy, which possessed a number of them. And in the ensuing violence, the possessed priests smashed all the crystal boxes. Releasing all the negative and dark forces into the open, which consumed the whole island. Only a few of the unfortunate inhabitants escaped, the rest was taken over by the darkness.
Tremendously impressed by the local story from a marketing perspective. The tourist operator said that naively assuming the remarkable story was true, which he and his investigative team were doubtful. This all happened a very long time ago. And such forces must no longer be there. To which the local man replied bluntly, several people had come here looking to visit the island over the years.
Just nine months ago, a group of archeologists had gone to the island to find the jeweled sarcophagus. They were only planning to stay there a week or so, and no one has seen them since. Their collapsible boat is still moored on the island, which you can see with binoculars. Along with the boats of all the others who had been there over the years and never returned.
