15 minutes later, the journalists are taken into the busy main studio, being sat down in reserved V.I.P. seating in the front row. They observed the main stage with a deep scarlet curtain in front of it. With the floor seating deployed in a semi-circle surrounding the stage. With hundreds of people sitting idly talking amongst themselves. With production staff signaling each other in the background. As they adjust some of the lights and cameras.
As the title roles, the floor manager signals the audience to cheer as the show commences. The deep red curtains are gently raised as an oily looking man walks fearlessly onto the grand stage, under the intense glare of the studio lights and cameras which focused on him. He's elevated and slender with black swept-back hair. And gives a cheesy smile to the audience who applaud him, as he embraces the cameras.
He introduces himself as Elon Black and welcomes friends and viewers to the new series of Monster Idol. Elon next presents the three celebrity judges for this series, who he proactively engages in shallow banter with as he welcomes them on stage. Before graciously ushering them to their special seating in front of the studio audience. He then explains the official rules of the show to new viewers. About the eager search for the nations, 'best monster'. Elon then announces the unique profiles of the veritable monsters, who would be participating in this season's show.
The monsters are each announced triumphantly with great fanfare on a large screen. Starting with 'Flab'. An obese man with a leather face with spikes coming out of it. 'Shin-Dig'. A short man dressed in a blood-red colored jester outfit with a Three pointed hat.
'Igloo'. A semi-frozen creature with long icicle fingers. 'Fangs'. A vampire with huge sharp teeth. 'Money Bags'. A tall skeleton, covered in a black cloak with an outlandish hat with golden eyes and diamond teeth. 'Tina Tension'. A demented drag queen with rainbow-colored hair distracting from her scarred face.
'The Ballerina'. A young woman elegantly dressed in a dark white tutu. Who gets her official name because of her graceful poise and effortless grace, which disguises her ice-cold killer nature. 'Voodoo Priest'. A man from the Caribbean who kills to appease the spirits from the 'other side'. 'Spyder'. A nimble assassin. 'Yin-Yang'. A two-headed man, with two equally bad personalities. 'Riga Mortis'. Is a tall Frankenstein type figure who desperately needs new organs to replace his decaying ones.
'Fanny Whiff'. An unhinged middle-aged housewife and former nurse. 'Howler'. A wolf type man, covered in ragged hair and with razor-like teeth and formidable claws. 'Wood Stacks'. Is a giant bearded man who carries an ax, wearing a heavy fur coat and 'lives in the woods.'
'Head Lights'. Is a man covered in bits of dark yellow metal with a rectangular metal head shaped like a traffic light. With eyes that change color from green to yellow and red. 'Tank'. A brutal looking heavily built muscular man. 'Lady Lollipop'. A disturbed woman dressed in a neon green outfit carrying a stop sign.
'Captain Bull's Eye'. A notorious Seafarer. Who is a mean-looking man, wearing a polo neck merchant marine uniform. He has a gruff seafaring accent, black eyes, a white beard, and a hooked hand. And finally 'Buttress'. A grotesque female weightlifting champion who looks more like a man.
"Those are our monsters!" Elon enthuses, with the delighted audience giving thundering applauses. Matt, Simon, Clarke & Dean hesitantly applaud as well. The unique format they wryly observed, undoubtedly appeared to have a very British eccentricity to it, as it didn't try to take itself too seriously.
Elon then announces the first game called 'Silent Library'. Where monsters must infiltrate a series of libraries and 'kill' members of the public without being caught. If they are noticed by members of the public, they're out of the round. The main studio screen shows what appears to be a large library. With people walking around, reading books, or carefully studying.
The automated camera observes Voodoo priest sneaking into the library. He starts prowling the people inside. The library is dimly lit in some places, allowing Voodoo to cunningly hide in the shadows.
The suspense is palpable with frequent interruption of small murmurs from the audience. With a running commentary from some judges. Voodoo homes in on his first victim and makes the kill, as he stabs a young student from behind, as Voodoo covers his mouth, so he doesn't make a sound. Elon solemnly announces the first kill with the audience applauding.
Matt, Simon, Dean & Clarke keenly observe in uncomfortable silence, naturally finding it hard to sit still, as they focus on the TV screen. There are three more 'kills' by Voodoo Priest before his time runs out. The judges then give their verdicts on his 'performance'.
"Beautiful," says one judge.
"An artistic display," says another, as they each reward points.
