☀️Finn's P.O.V☀️

I slipped on my flip flops and grabbed my keys on the way out the door. I heard Willa, my sister, call my name. I stopped and turned around. "What's up?" I replied.

"I was just wondering if you could drop me off at the skatepark on your way to the beach", she asked.

"Yeah, why not."

We piled into my 1960s Volkswagen Bus, her sitting in the passenger's seat and me driving. She took the aux, and put on some shitty album she was obsessed with at the moment. I rolled my eyes, but didn't say anything. I sped all the way to the skate park. I couldn't wait to get to the beach. I could practically hear the waves calling my name.

Willa turned down the blaring music so I could hear her speak, "Hey, I know you are a little bummed that you didn't get your Mate Letter yet, but I promise I won't open mine until you get yours. I'm still kinda shocked that you and April are not mates".

April was my girlfriend, and she turned 18 two months ago. I haven't seen her in two days, because I know I have to break up with her.

"Yeah me too" I replied.

Suddenly a silence took over the car. All you could hear was a light humming of the album still playing. It stayed like that for the rest of the drive to the skate park.

I raced to the beach. I needed to blow off steam and I needed to do it now. I'm starting to get all in my head about the Mate Letter. Why haven't I got mine yet? Is it because I don't have one? Is my mate younger than me? How much younger?

I finally made it to the beach and grabbed my board from the roof of my van. Ripping my shirt off as fast as possible, I ran down the beach. I ran into the water and started paddling. As I tried to catch some waves I let my mind wander. I was thinking about how I'm going to break up with April. How is she going to take it? That poor girl has been waiting for months to get her Mate Letter. She probably didn't get hers. Why is the Moon Goddess being so cruel? Sometimes I hate her. I hate her right now. Why can't I just have an easy mate like my mom and dad? They got mated when they were already dating. They got married the next day!

When the full moon reached the sky and the waves crashed harder, I knew I had to head in. I really hope Willa got a ride home. Knowing her she probably skated home after I didn't text her back. As I was walking up the beach I saw a stunning woman sitting in the sand looking for someone. She turned around and gave me the craziest smile. "What's with this lady?" I think to myself. I started to walk a little faster hoping she wouldn't catch me. Then she appeared right in front of me.

I tried to act strong, even though I was scared, and I said, "Excuse me, are you alright?"

She smiled again, and said, "Finn I know you have been praying for an amazing mate for the past four years, and I think I delivered! He is quite the challenge though! Good luck my love! Oh, and always remember that I'm always on your side no matter what that greedy, boundary crossing, idiot sun goddess says!"

She gave me a letter, kissed me on the cheek and made a heart with her hands, and then disappeared into thin air.

I stood there for a few minutes just looking at where she disappeared from. What the h*ll? I started to walk towards my bus in confusion. Suddenly it all hit me. I look at the letter in my hand. The Mate Letter in my hand. I jump into my car and drive as fast as possible home. I can't wait to tell Chris and Willa! Wait WHAT THE FU**. Both Willa and Chris just got theirs in the mail. Why did she hand deliver mine? Is there something wrong with my mate or something? I tried not to think of the worst so I turned on the radio to whatever was playing.

Once I got to my house I ran in, not even caring to put my surfboard back into the garage. I bust through the door yelling for everyone to come down. Chris walks down looking exhausted as always. My stupid older brother is the alpha so he never gets any sleep. While my sister looks as fresh as a daisy. I swear that girl doesn't need sleep. I think that skating replenishes her energy. My mom and dad come down last. I think they were watching a movie in their room.

I grabbed the letter from my jacket and started waving it around like a maniac. I was so excited! My brother grabbed my hand and took the letter. He stopped, he looked a little sick.

"So my little brother finally got a mate," he still didn't sound very happy. Then he bust out crying. He sobbed, "Now both of my siblings are getting their mate. Will they even have time for me anymore? MOON GODDESS WHYYYYY!" He fell to his knees.

He has a mate, he knows it's not that big of a deal! He was born a drama king, so my and Willa ignored him. I let out a small laugh, and our parents went to comfort him. Willa ran upstairs to grab her letter, then ran back down. By the time she got back Chris had himself back together. We both started to tear our envelopes open.

"Three.............two......ONE!" At one we both ripped into the envelopes pulling out the letters. Mine had a whole bunch of stickers and glitter for some reason. I saw my letter and my whole world stopped for a second. Their eyes......their eyes were so beautiful. I could drown in those eyes. I looked around her face, and then I realized it was not a she after all. What? For goodness sake I thought she was joking. Did she pair me up with a guy? Sure he was the most beautiful person I had ever seen, but I'm straight. I mean, I've only ever dated girls. Then I noticed the rest of the page. Why is there a map? Do I really have to go on a road trip to meet my mate?

I looked up to tell Willa about it, and she was just staring at the piece of paper. She was shocked out of her mind. Did they pair her up with a guy too? I took the paper out of her hand. Why was my girlfriend on my sister's Mate Letter? I didn't know what to say. I couldn't really be mad at anyone except for the Moon Goddess.

She stole mine out of my hand, looked at it and started to giggle. I looked confused, so she said "did you even read what the Moon Goddess had to say in your letter?"

I didn't.

"Ummm....," I hummed.

She started to laugh harder then started to read it out loud.

"He is from New York, and is a little EDGY. He reads a lot and is a huge nerd, but he will be your nerd! Watch out tho, because he is a little sassy man. He is quite the artist. You can see his work on basically any building by his apartment complex. Good Luck!! XOXOX, Moon Goddess."

After she finished that last word she bust out laughing. I tried to fire back so I looked at her sheet, but there was no note about her soul mate. I made a face that meant defeat and she started to laugh even harder. Then Chris came to read it. He started to laugh too!

"Ugh! Not fair! Why is my Mate Letter so embarrassing?".
