I love you all hearies but sometimes it's harder to get your attention compared to deafies haha. We deafies are used to having to pay more attention to our peripheral vision so we can catch someone trying to get our attention or something zooming by. Several hearies aren't used to being relied on peripheral vision because they are more used to relying on hearing sounds to be more aware of their surroundings.
And YES there is a science behind this! There was actually a research done on that by VL2 at Gallaudet University. You can read it here: http://bit.ly/1IahcoS
VL2 or Visual Language and Visual Learning is a very cool NSF funded Science of Learning Center at Gallaudet Univ. where they focus on researches relating to vision. We deafies rely heavily on vision and yes our brains are wired a bit differently because of that. Fascinating stuff! You can check it out at vl2.gallaudet.edu. (Gallaudet University is the only university that has majority of students who are deaf, has full faculty that signs. I went there!)
short and quick comics about my life as a deaf trans masculine genderqueer person.
'qq' is a code for question mark, used in old hey day of TTY. TTY is a device (that you can see younger me using in the banner) we deaf people used for making phone calls. Nowadays we use videophone.
