Samaria had never seen Lagi so agitated before. He was always pleasant. Good ol dependable Lagi. Had the drink gone to his head like Kaipo? He wasn’t slurring his words, so maybe not. And who was she to judge? Hadn’t she just been questioning the gods herself?
She flinched as he yelled, putting a hand up to deflect the aggressive energy he was suddenly hammering at her. Something was definitely off, though. Did 20 year old men get mood swings? Or … 20 year old non-men.
Thankfully the aggression didn’t last too long. After only a short outburst, he deflated again, looking almost sheepish. And weary.
“Lagi…” she inched towards him. Sweat was breaking out on his forehead and dripping down his temples. “Are you feeling okay?” She reached out to reassuringly touch his elbow.
“Ah!” In shock, she yanked her hand away. He was hot. Very hot. She shook out her hand, more confused than in pain. Ahi’ahis could withstand many things that would leave burn marks on any other tribe. “What the hell! Lagi, you’re hot as coals. Do you have a fever?”
