Samaria was so deep into her wallowing journey of self pity, she didn’t register the sound of footsteps making their way toward her through the jungle.
“Samaria?”
Her eyes shot open and she jolted up with a shriek, fire igniting on her palms. Her head whipped around to scan the jungle for an attacker a split second before she saw the man standing above her.
Her shoulders dropped. “Oh.” She gave a heavy sigh, the flames dissipating into smoke as it left her fingertips. “It’s just you.” Her heart was still thudding wildly in her chest at the scare. What the hell was he doing sneaking up on her like that? She could have burned his face off.
She flopped back down in the dirt with a groan. “What are you doing here, Lagi? Shouldn’t you be at the party?” It looked like he had been having fun. Maybe a little too much fun. “You know, you almost knocked me over earlier.” She tilted her chin up to give him a playful glare. “Thought you could challenge Kaipo, huh? He’s on a whole other level tonight. I think the drink is seriously going to his head.”
