Hyde took Hikaru to the town to buy some of Hikaru's necessities. Hikaru didn't want to trouble Hyde and would love to pay for himself, but it's a little bit difficult at the moment. So, he obediently let Hyde paid for him.
“When I get a job, I swear I'll pay you back two times more than the amount you paid for me!” Hikaru clenched his fist and teeth with determination. Hyde swore that he could see the flame in the lad's eyes as the kid showed him how determined he was.
“You don't have to, though...” Hyde told Hikaru.
Hikaru didn't agree. “Nope. I’d feel bad. Let me pay you back when I had the money. It's the least I could do.”
Hyde just smiled. Maybe he was too rush. Hikaru was still wary of him and thought of him as nothing more than a kind stranger who helped him. Hikaru was not from this world, so he would not know how happy he was when he was told that Hikaru was his Jiwa. Hyde decided to respect Hikaru's wish. However, he was still hoping that Hikaru would open his heart to him and let his guard down some time in the future.
Hyde saw Hikaru's excited and curious face when they passed by a few stalls at the market. Before Hikaru disappeared from his view, Hyde hurriedly informed Hikaru to stay close and not to stray to far away from him. He didn't want to find Hikaru collapsed somewhere if they were ever be separated. Hikaru nodded without any questions.
Nevertheless, the curious boy was quickly distracted by the sight of the unknown. To prevent any trouble, Hyde asked Hikaru's permission to hold his hand. Hikaru was embarrassed and slightly reluctant to do that. He felt like a child who needed constant watch from adults. However, it was scary if he lost sight of Hyde. So, he let Hyde held his hand.
There were all kinds of things sold in the market. When they passed by a few stalls which were selling fruits and vegetables, Hikaru was flabbergasted. How could he not? There was this fruit as big as an apple that looked exactly like eyeballs! Like a bloody huge eyeballs!
Well, not bloody, blood... It's like, bloody... Like... the cuss word. But, y'know... Hikaru didn't curse.
Okay, back to the story.
When Hyde asked him whether he would like to try the fruit, Hikaru shook his head with all his might. But maybe Hyde noticed Hikaru's eyes were still eyeing the eyeball fruit (got it? I- I just had to...), Hyde bought a few and demonstrated to Hikaru on how to eat it.
Actually, you just need to bite into it. Just like that. Hikaru's curiosity beat his rationality, so he tried the fruit. It was firm on the outside, but on the inside, the texture was like jelly! Or some of you called it Jell-O. I think, I should just say ‘pudding’. Or gelatine. Whatever works.
Hyde told Hikaru that the sweet jelly fruit was called Oogbol.
The Oogbol was delicious, nevertheless. They continued to visit a few more stalls and stores to buy Hikaru's necessities such as clothes, underwear, toiletries and other things that he might needed. Hikaru was a little bit anxious when Hyde kept on piling up stuffs for Hikaru, while the man was casually paying for him. So, the very least he could do was to force Hyde to let him carry his own stuffs. Hyde was not going to let Hikaru carry heavy stuffs, so he gave the boy just a few things to carry.
They passed by a jewellery shop that had a big window to display their products. From outside the store, he saw all kind of necklaces designs, from simple to complex. Hyde came closer and stood next to Hikaru, then curiously turned his head to the same direction as where the boy was looking at.
“Oh. Those were wedding necklaces,” Hyde told Hikaru.
Hikaru raised his eyebrows in curiousity. He tilted his head and pursed his lips out of habit. Hyde could see all the questions that were waiting to burst out of Hikaru's small lips.
Cute!
How can he be this cute and adorable?! If Hikaru allowed him, he would love to squeeze the boy and give him a lot of love and spoil him rotten. If he do it now, would Hikaru be scared of him? Ah... He would probably thought of Hyde as a pervert, right? Hyde tried to hold back his smile.
“Hyde? Are you okay? You look like you're in pain. Are you hurt somewhere?” Hikaru tugged on Hyde sleeve and waved his small hand in front of Hyde's scrunched up face.
‘He. Called. My. NAME!!’ screamed Hyde internally. That was the first time Hikaru called his name! Usually, it's just 'hey's and 'you's.
Hyde quickly put a lid on the tremor in his heart, before he gave a reassuring smile to Hikaru “I’m okay. By the way, what did they use for wedding on your previous world?”
“Hmm.. Wedding rings. They wear it on their fourth finger. Some culture wore it on the right, some on the left,” explained Hikaru while showing his ring fingers to Hyde and pretended to put on a ring on each of them. “Personally, I love the idea of wearing the ring on my promise finger,” he said while lifting his pinky and wiggled it on Hyde's face. Hikaru giggled when he saw Hyde's eyeballs struggling to keep up with his little finger's movement.
“Promise?” Hyde furrowed his eyebrows in puzzlement.
“Mhmm.” Hikaru wiggled his pinky again. “Promise.”
Hikaru asked Hyde to show him his pinky. Hyde did as he had been told. The teen held Hyde's hand, making the 20 year-old man twitched; then Hikaru interlocked his little finger to Hyde's. He gave Hyde the brightest smile he could make. Hyde chuckled at the adorable act and locked his finger too.
“This is what we called pinky promise. You lock your pinky, and stamp the deal.” Hikaru touched their thumbs together. “If you ever break your promise, you pinky will be cut off! So, be careful!”
Hyde's face became pale. He didn't know that a broken promise could lead to missing finger in Hikaru's previous world! What a scary practice. Hikaru giggled at Hyde reaction. Hyde’s eyes narrowed in doubt when he heard Hikaru's giggles. He was tricked, right?
“It wasn't practised as much, really! Not in the present. Except for yakuza, that is. ...maybe,” Hikaru mumbled that last sentence.
“What’s a yakuza?” Hyde asked again.
Hikaru shrugged and walked away from the store when he noticed the employee in that store was staring at them two. Sorry for standing there for too long, mister. Hyde followed closely behind him, not letting Hikaru to stay too far away.
“Yakuza is members of a group that handles organised crime syndicate. You really don't wanna mess with them,” explained Hikaru nonchalantly. Honestly, he himself only heard of them in manga. Ah! One of the girls told him that there was someone in school that was the son of a yakuza or something.
“We have something like that here too.” Hyde held his chin under his thumb. “I heard the rumours that the royal knights was trying to catch them, but failed. You have to be careful and avoid them if you were to meet those guys.”
It's not like Hikaru will recognise them if he were to meet one.
They arrived at a cafe. The exterior was different than the stores around it. It's walls were made of logs which were stacked together, kind of giving a feel of a cottage in the woods. Hyde pushed the door and a bell jingle were echoing inside the less crowded cafe. Hyde ushered Hikaru to walk in first. When Hikaru stepped inside, he could see only a few customers inside, minding their own thing. Some were quietly drinking their coffee or eating their snacks, while there was one of them silently reading the newspaper. Maybe it was still too early for lunch. That's why there were only a few customers.
One of the staffs greeted them with wide smile. “Boss!”
“Boss?” Hikaru glanced at Hyde. Hyde gave him an awkward smile before he led Hikaru to one of the two person seat on the corner of the dining area.
The waiter took their orders and hurriedly to the kitchen. Hyde noticed the grin on his staff's face. Then, he realized that this was the first time he personally brought a Fehu to the store. Oh boy. They were going to have some fun teasing him later on.
“I didn't know you had a cafe...” Hikaru looked around. “It’s nice.”
“Thank you.” Hyde flashed him a proud smile.
After a few minutes passed, the waiter brought them their lunch. Hikaru looked very thrilled at the dishes in front of him. There was a dish that looked similar to omelette rice which was one of his favourite food. But, instead of rice, there were chunks of meat that were tasted like beef with thick gravy and tender veggies which tasted like carrots and potatoes which easily melted in his mouth. Then, there was this soup that really smells good with a bunch of colourful vegetables. It was expectedly tasted very delicious. There was also the sautéed Capella mushrooms that Hyde made him before. The mushroom tasted like chewy fried chicken. Weird, but yummy. Maybe he should try to coat the mushrooms with egg and flour and deep fry them. All of this dishes made Hikaru's mouth watered even after he had a bite.
Hyde stared at the boy in front of him. He felt happy seeing the black haired cutie happy. When Hikaru ate, his chubby cheeks were so round from the big bites that he shoved in his mouth. Hyde’s heart tickled by Hikaru's adorable childlike actions.
“Did you had any lovers in your old world?” asked Hyde while slurping his cup of tea.
Hikaru choked at Hyde's out of the blue question. Really. This guy had to tone down his habit of asking sudden questions. Hyde was flustered and hand Hikaru a napkin and a glass of drink. Hikaru fiercely swallowed down his food and drink before looking up at the worried silver haired guy in front of him. He could clearly see Hyde's imaginary dog ears limped to the side when he saw Hyde's tail drooped down like a puppy waiting for his punishment. Hikaru cleared his throat.
“Lovers? I don't even have one lover. Never did. Do you have any?” Hikaru returned the question to Hyde. He secretly anticipated Hyde's answer nervously. If Hyde said ‘yes', then he'd be sad.
...
Wait what?
...why?
“No, I don't.” Hyde smiled while staring at Hikaru right in the eyes. His sapphire blue eyes kind of drawing Hikaru's dark irises to be lost inside the ocean depth stare. Hikaru's breath seemed to have stopped on the first second their eyes met.
Hikaru quickly removed his sight from Hyde's dangerous gaze and cleared his throat in embarrassment. Hyde hid his chuckle and back at munching his lunch which was still far from finished.
“So, you live alone in that house? Where's your family?” asked Hikaru, trying to break the silence between them.
“They used to lived there. The four of them. But when my mother died after giving birth to me, one of my father was very heartbroken and died after he was sick for a whole year. I was raised by my other two fathers and now they had their very much needed vacation and was travelling all around the world.”
When Hyde was talking about his family, he had the most gentle look in his eyes that Hikaru couldn't help but smiled tenderly at the sight. Hyde was definitely grew up in a family that wasn't lack of love and affection, even the tragedy which had befallen on them couldn't break the family apart. Hikaru was a little jealous of that side of Hyde's family.
“They sounded like great fathers to you. I would love to meet them and maybe listen to their stories.” Hikaru chuckled before he realized that it sounded like he was asking to meet lover's parents, considering the relationship between him and Hyde. His cheeks slowly blushed.
Hyde didn't seem to notice and was smiling proudly when Hikaru praised his beloved fathers. He nodded and told Hikaru that he will definitely introduced his family to Hikaru.
