Rex gingerly set Violet-Rose’s head on the ground before hopping up to gently picking her up bridal-style. Biff led the way, traveling the short distance down the hall to Isabella’s private medical bed. Usually no one else was allowed there, but he figured this could be an exception. Isabella was practically hyperventilating with worry. He was sure the powers that be would understand Violet-Rose using the room for the time being.
“Okay, Rex, put her on the bed.” Biff ordered. He was getting into the zone, ready to treat his dying patient. Rex set her down on the bed, treating her as if she were as light as a feather and more precious than gold. “Good. Now, everyone, get out of here.”
Isabella and Thomas had followed them in. Biff knew that he couldn’t work if they were all in there. He could only worry about one patient at a time. Thomas’ nose was definitely broken and Isabella looked like she would pass out from worry any second. Biff needed his full focus to help the practically lifeless girl in front of him. All three looked like they weren’t going to budge. “Come on guys. She’s in good hands. Plus, I’ll need a nurse’s help. Why don’t you go to the medical bay? Thomas, you can get your nose fixed, and Isa, you can hold his hand. We all know that he’s a big baby.” Biff winked at the last part, hoping that it was enough to convince them to leave.
“Fine.” Isabella was short. “But, I want to be back as soon as I can. I’ll send up a nurse.” She huffed and grabbed Thomas’ hand, but she did turn and leave.
Biff nodded, glad that he had convinced them. “Rex?”
“I won’t get in your way, but there’s no way I’m leaving her alone. Not after all that’s happened. I’ll stay at the door.”
Biff found himself nodding once more. Rex went to the door, leaving the doctor to do what was needed to save the light hearted girl he always loved seeing at the tutoring centers. “Oh Vi. Don’t you dare die on us.” Rex muttered to himself.
------
Rex, Thomas, and Isabella had vanished into the medical room, leaving Jared to deal with his twin.
“Dave,” Jared said after putting his hand to his ear, activating the com. “Is the cell ready?”
He couldn’t believe that he was putting his own brother into a cell. But he had to. He was strangling someone, could have even killed her, for no reason.
“Yeah, bring him down when you’re ready.” Dave replied. “Or do you need help?”
Jared looked down at his brother’s peaceful face. This was the first time in weeks that he appeared peaceful. “Nah, he’ll be out for another good 20 minutes.”
“Damn, you must have gotten him good,” Dave chuckled. Jared knew that he was trying to make light of the situation to help him handle it. They had been working together for the past 5 years. Dave was a good employee, and an even better friend.
“Yeah, it was the only way to stop him.” Jared laughed back. “I’ll be down in less than two minutes.”
“You got it boss.”
------
“How is she?” Jared asked. He had come back up from the cell block after filing the paperwork required to hold Jace there until they figured out what was going on.
Rex was refusing to let even Jared into the room with the doctor and the three nurses who eventually came up to help him.
“She’s critical. Please stop pestering, Jared!” Biff yelled out. Jared’s presence at the door was getting to be too much for Biff to handle. “Go talk with Jasper. He came by, but I wouldn’t let him in either. He’s getting the full story of what happened from Isa and Thomas down in the medical bay. Rex will keep us safe. You go.”
With a huff, Jared left to go to the medical bay. He would have stood his ground, but he was rather interested in hearing the story also.
------
“You KNEW where she was this ENTIRE time, and you didn’t think to tell me?” Jasper was exacerbated. His sister knew that he was looking all over for Vi. And she was there, in plain sight. The. Whole. Time.
"You were the one who didn't ask for help finding her," Isabella yelled. "You know that I find things!"
“What did I miss?” Jared raised his eyebrows. He always knew that Jasper was an animated person, but he was acting a little wilder than he had ever seen. Thomas, now with a bandage over his nose, was sitting wide-eyed at the conversation unfolding between the siblings in front of him.
“Oh, you know.” Jasper started. “My sister just knew about and hid the person we’ve been looking for for almost the past week!”
Isabella was crying. She didn’t want to be, but she was so worried about Violet-Rose, and now her brother was yelling at her. She had so many emotions that the only way they could be let out was through tears.
“Hey, hey,” Jasper gasped when Jared patted his shoulder and pointed towards Isabella. He hadn’t meant to make her cry. He was just incredibly worried about Vi. Jasper went over to Isabella and scooped her into a hug. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry.” Jasper was petting her head and cooing. “Can you start your story from the beginning so Jared can hear it too?”
Isabella gave a slight nod. She dried her tears and dove into the story.
“I found a girl under my bed. She told me her name was Sophia. She was hurt and hungry, so I decided to get her some food while she rested. I started talking to Thomas, and he let it slip that Violet-Rose had gone missing.” All eyes turned towards Thomas, who shrugged.
“Since we’re confessing here, during that time I realized that I had run into Violet-Rose right before she was declared missing. She was dressed as a nurse.” Thomas fessed up.
Everyone but Isa were surprised at this revelation.
“You what?” Jared and Jasper asked simultaneously.
“Uhm. Yeah, she looked like a new nurse who had gotten lost trying to find the cafeteria.” Thomas was like a little boy.
“And you didn’t think to tell us?” Jared was fuming.
”No.” Isabella interjected. “It wasn’t his fault. When he described her, I knew that ‘Sophia’ was Violet-Rose. I figured that she had a reason for hiding her identity, so I distracted Thomas. He was so distracted that he probably just remembered that that had actually happened.” Thomas shook his head, confirming that he had really just remembered. Isa plowed on with her story, seeming to have pacified Jasper and Jared’s anger. “Even though I knew her real identity, I continued to call her Sophia. Once I knew who she was, I tried to get as much info as possible about her.”
“Oh,” Jared interjected. “So that’s why you were asking about her.”
“Yeah,” Isabella confirmed. “She was so bruised and broken, but she wouldn’t tell me about what happened, so I found the answers. Well, at least part of the answer.”
Thomas gulped, he knew what was coming.
“I saw who hurt her, and I got scared.” Another tear made its way down Isabella’s face.
“Who?” Jasper asked, barely auditable.
“I couldn't,” Isa hiccupped. “I couldn’t tell if it was Jared or Jace. All I knew was that one of them had their hands on her throat. So I stopped trusting any of the guards except for Thomas.”
Jared’s jaw was practically on the floor.
“Thomas, without knowing, helped me keep ‘Sophia’ a secret. He just thought that she was my really cool new teacher. Ms. Herrah, Marcos, and Jessica all met her and fell in love. She helped me with my lessons: she wants to be a teacher when she grows up! She even helped me with my nightmares by telling me stories. Everything was going so well until this morning!”
Isabella was shaking. “Thomas was telling me about how he couldn’t hide Sophia anymore. I had just told him about my trust issues, when he turned and screamed. You know the rest.”
Jasper held onto Isa a little tighter. Kissing her forehead, he realized just how mature his baby sister had gotten. “I am so sorry you had to go through that.”
“I just want her to be okay.” Isa sniffled.
“We all do, Hon, we all do.” Thomas muttered, putting his head down. Jared gave him a look that said they would definitely be having a conversation about this later.
All quieted down. All were too deep in thought. Eventually, Isabella fell asleep in Jasper’s arms. Thomas also found himself dozing off.
------
“She’s out, but she’s stable.” Biff had found everyone fast asleep in a patient room in the medical bay. He shook Jared awake to give him the news. Jared held out his hand to give Biff a shake.
Biff shook his hand and then made his way to Jasper as Jared left the room.
“Hey babe,” Biff whispered in Jasper’s ear. “Vi is going to make it.”
Jasper beat his eyes open and smiled. “You’re the best, Love.” Jasper caught Biff’s face and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. “Is it okay if we see her? I know that Isa is dying to see if she’s okay with her own eyes.”
“Yeah, that’s fine. Just know she’ll be out for a while.” Biff rubbed Jasper’s cheek, before giving him a quick peck on the lips. “I am going to go to bed for a bit. Well, more like a couple of hours.”
“Sounds good, I’ll be up later on. Good work today." Jasper gave him another peck on the lips. "I love you.”
“I love you too.” With that, Biff left and Jasper woke the others up.
“Come on, we get to go visit Vi,” Jasper smiled.
