He jogs over to the fence as I notice a very small hole at the bottom, seeing the battle arena on the other side. I blink, looking at him before he climbs over the fence; hearing him grunt before jumping down.
He lands on his feet as I watch him, blinking. He looks at me, tilting his head, “didn’t you learn some things before you chose which position to take?”
“Uh...yeah, but there’s a hole,” I say and point to it. He blinks before his eyes follow where I’m pointing at, raising an eyebrow. I shrug before I grab the cold wire, pulling myself up and grabbing the top part; pulling myself up and swinging my leg over.
Lupus crouches and looks at the hole, “seems like someone cut it,” he hums. I jump down and land on my feet, stumbling slightly before straightening; looking at him. I head over as he tilts his head, “But it’s kinda small, I dunno what could have come through. Not a human,” he mumbles almost to himself.
I look around as my eyes adjust to the tall trees and bushes, “We should get goin’. Ask this...person if they put the hole there,” I say, shifting my weight. He glances up at me, raising an eyebrow, “Nervous are we?” he asks, standing up as he shoves his hands in his pockets.
“Do you have any clue what the HeadMaster will do to us if he found us right now? And I can hardly see, I wasn't trained to see in the dark,” I state as he grunts, taking my wrist as he starts pulling me; smelling the rich soil and last bit of blood.
I cringe as I smell it, smell of blood...and the phantom of death. I think as I look around slowly, seeing the shadows as the moon casts gentle light against the trees.
“You don’t need to worry, besides, you have some background on how to get yourself out of trouble,” he hums.
“Yes because the yearly check-ups that us Captains do so helps,”
“I’ve seen you with a knife and a bow, getting yourself out of rope. You are better than most,” he states, glancing back at me. I look at him, raising an eyebrow “You’ve been watchin’ me?”
“Well...it’s not every day you see a Captain who is better than almost everyone. You don’t even look like you have much muscle,” he chuckles as he continues to pull me, “and watch out there are logs-”
I scoff before I go to step, my foot hitting a tree as tears warm my eyes, making me stumble. He grunts before chuckling, “There are logs everywhere,” he states. I glare at where his head would be, straightening, “I’m not better at most, I just didn’t want to be like everyone else. We are good at our jobs but the percent of Captains being in trouble with their Miles is more than forty percent,”
He snorts and turns, seeing the everlasting rows of trees and bushes, “Yeah, if the Captains were the same with the Miles outside of this school. There is still a chance that we won’t get the same Captain as we are promised,” he says slowly before stopping; looking around.
“But it is still a chance, it is our job to make sure that our fighters are safe yet deadly,” I say and look up at him. He glances down at me, seeing half of his face from the moon; seeing amusement in his eyes.
His mouth opens before a sharp sound of a twig snapping fills the air. I pause as Lupus’ eyes snap up, pulling me behind him quickly. I stumble as my hands go to his back, feeling him tense as his eyes flicker around the dark.
“We need to keep movin’,” he says quietly, looking back at me. I nod slowly, looking around before he starts pulling me deeper into the arena. I look back over my shoulder, seeing a pair of orange eyes peering at us.
I tense before I walk faster with Lupus, what...who was that?
