The academy cafeteria was large and spacious with a number of amenity such as the small fountain with a sculpture of a lion. There were a variety of tables available for use, some with booths or benches, others just had chairs. As for food there was a food bar available as well as vending machine which housed academy exclusive snacks and meals. The cafeteria was so big it housed a second floor which was restricted to upperclassmen. There was a skylight which shined down rays of light while a chorus sang in the background. A serene setting indeed, even so Yuuto was scowling at his food pushing rice back and forth with his spoon.
Shit. What I am gonna do. If I fail the elimination exam then that’s the end of it. I’ll be kicked out of the school. But if I use my power than that could cause a whole mess of problems. For one I’d never hear the end of from Mr. Yoshida. He’d probably accuse me of cheating since I didn’t really use my abilities during the entrance exam. Well that’s not exactly true it’s not my fault I suck at actually using magic. Wait it kinda is my fault aaaaah this is gonna drive me crazy.
Yuuto slammed his head down nearly face planting into his food. His head shot back up with his eyes big and tears streaming down his face like a river.
“It’s not fair. I haven’t even gotten to try the ultra-exclusive academy snacks. Oh crepes, pies, pork buns how I wished we had more time together.”
Everyone around seemed to be ignoring Yuuto’s complaints, everyone except a little girl with green hair waiting in line. The moment Yuuto noticed her peeking out of line she zipped behind the person in front of her. No matter how you looked at it, it was a strange occurrence.
How old is that girl? She looks about the same age as Kou. Is she even a student here? It didn’t look like she was wearing a school uniform. That reminds, didn’t one of the teachers that introduced themselves last week resemble a child. Yeah maybe that’s who it is. Why was she staring at me though? Either way what am I gonna do about the elimination exam? I still don’t have the basics down but the school’s gonna teach us everything we need to know for the exam. They haven’t really explained how the test is gonna work, I wonder if that’s on purpose.
“Uh excuse me, is this seat taken?”
If I knew how they’re gonna test us then I can better prepare. I just need to get in a bit more practice time. Yeah I can do this. No use sulking just yet.
“I was just wondering if this seat was taken.”
The second time the person spoke Yuuto glanced up at them. There in front of him holding a tray of food was a boy with short brown shaggy hair. Which appeared to be longer on one side since it was cut unevenly. For a moment Yuuto stared at the person.
Who is this guy?
“No one’s sitting here but me. Take a seat I guess.”
The boy pulled up a chair and sat directly in front of Yuuto. He beamed with joy staring at Yuuto. At first he felt a little uncomfortable, being stared at for no reason but then he noticed that the boy had sharp eyes.
Really, who is this guy?
“So I guess I’ll be seeing you after school. It sucks that you got punished too even though all you did was help. Thanks for that by the way. You took down that lizard spawn with one hit how’d you do that?”
With a narrowed brow Yuuto responded. “I punched it hard. What do you mean, you’ll be seeing me after school and how do you know about the lizard spawn thing?”
The boy blinked twice then placed a hand on his chest. “It’s me. Senji. Senji Yatsu we’re in class 1B together.”
For a moment Yuuto spaced out while trying to remember the name then his eyes widened.
“Senji huh. Well you look different.”
“Oh yeah. I cut my hair and I’m wearing contacts. My dad said the only reason those kids picked on you is because they didn’t see those strong eyes of yours.” Senji smiled awkwardly after he finished talking.
“Yeah, I‘d say you have some sharp eyes. Anyway I’m glad you didn’t get kicked out considering.”
“Yeah me too. Thanks by the way. I wish there was a way I could thank you. Hey, I know, you told me to treat you to something good right. I’ll buy you dinner after school what do you say I know a pretty good ramen place….”
Senji stopped talking because he was distracted by the peculiar expression on Yuuto’s face. With a snapped of his finger the expression disappeared as he smiled.
“I could fill up on ramen. Hope you got a big wallet cause I’m a serious eater.”
“No problem. Just don’t go too overboard.”
As a result of the way Yuuto grew up he never passed up a chance at free food. As well as the fact he didn’t hesitate to over indulge at others expenses at the very least he was giving Senji fair warning.
“So what did I miss in class today?”
“We learn how to make bullets out of magical energy. Well they’re just balls of magical energy but I can’t seemed to make mine the right shape and size.”
“Oh I see. Guys typically have a problem with the size for some reason. But you’re saying you have a problem with both. That really does seem strange considering you’re really strong.”
“Huh, who said that?”
“I mean you took down the lizard.”
“Sheesh, don’t announce it to the whole cafeteria. That is a very different thing then me being able to make a proper bullet. Besides I never said mine was small I just can keep it from bursting.”
Two girls walked by giggling as they heard Yuuto talk. Senji held back a chuckle while Yuuto turned beat red.
“That’s not what I meant damn it!”
“Now who’s trying to make an announcement to the whole cafeteria?”
Yuuto just stared at Senji for a moment then shook his head. He had made the decision not to hold back at the ramen place he was going home well fed at Senji’s expense.
