When he woke up the next morning, he was in his bed like nothing had happened. He lay there, petrified by the thought of facing his new reality. His reality being that his mother was dead and he was too useless to do anything about it. That's what you're him up inside the most. That he knew his father had killed his mother, but that he was unable to gather the courage to do anything about it.
He quickly got up and went to the kitchen doorway. No dead body hanging there, no blood, nothing. When he looked around the house, he couldn't find his father. It occurred to him what happened yesterday as he was about to jump off the bridge. 'Guess I'll follow the man's instructions and go to school… What else am I supposed to do? Father always gets away with murder. Why would this one be any different? No! It has to be different. I have to do something… Eventually…' For the time being, he decided to get ready and go to school. Luckily, he had automatically woken up around the time that he usually sets his alarm for school. He guessed his body was just trained that way. He quickly got ready and caught the bus to school.
People started to talk about him immediately, as usual. It was only now that he realized how pathetic it was. They knew nothing of pain. The kind of pain that rushed through your veins, the kind that damaged your heart beyond repair, the kind that made you stop breathing from the weight of it. The kind of pain that would never go away, would never be forgotten. "Hey look, the demon looks upset." He heard somebody murmur. His black hair and red eyes got him bad attention. The girls didn't make fun of him because they thought he was handsome, but they were still scared of him. He never smiled and apparently always looked 'evil' to them. The boys weren't scared of him, they just bullied him. He dealt with the remarks all the way to school, but thankfully, nothing else happened.
He was dreading walking into school. There was always a group of boys, three of them, waiting for him at the doors. Andy, Andrew, and Andre. Note the name similarities. Andrew was the worst, and as soon as he saw him today he knew he was going to get hit. Andrew looked like he was in a very bad mood, but Avery didn't think he could take being hit right now, not after everything that happened. So he snuck into school through the back. He might pay for it later but at least he'd be more prepared. He went to class. When he got there the teacher was already in the classroom, so when he passed Andrew on the way to his seat, all Andrew could do was hiss, "You're dead, demon." Avery closed his eyes. 'I'm dead…'
Class progressed as normal until right before the bell. At that point, for some reason, the entire school rumbled like an earthquake was happening. It ended soon, like nothing it happened in the first place. People were chattering about how it was probably just a mini earthquake, but for some reason an eerie feeling settled over the classroom quickly. Total silence. "Does anyone else feel tingly?" A boy said, and people immediately started to agree. Avery didn't feel tingly, he felt like he was being electrocuted. He was shaking. The door opened and Avery gasped. It was the same man that dragged him off the bridge last night. "Hello students, I am your new principal, Mr. Nikolai and I figured that in light of what just happened, it would be the best time to introduce myself. It was just a miniature earthquake, nothing to worry about. Well, off to the next class!" He whisked away. The teacher quickly stood up. "I'll be back soon as well, I have a question for our new principal." The teacher was a female, and blushing. Everybody in the room knew exactly why she was going after Mr. Nikolai. She whisked away, leaving the class in silence.
Usually the girls would be buzzing about the hot new principal, but the eerie, tingling feeling hasn't gone away yet. For Avery, it was so bad he was now shaking. Andrew took this opportunity. "Tremmmmbling? Shiverrrrring? Don't shit your pants demon." He yanked Avery out of his seat and everybody crowded around to see the fight. 'What fight… Like I can even fight back?' Of course, the standard chant of "fight, fight, fight," started. Andrew smiled and echoed Avery's thoughts exactly. "What fight? Like this little bastard could ever fight back? You know, I live in his neighborhood. I was walking by his house once and I heard what was going on inside." He turned to Avery. "Man your dad's loud." Avery felt himself trembling for another reason now. "Ohhhhh what did you hear?!" One of the students asked. "Welllll-" Avery couldn't take it. "Stop." Everybody went silent. Nobody ever talked back to Andrew, the toughest bully in the school.
Avery's body felt… Hot. Andrew's eyes gleamed with sadistic pleasure. "Stop? Why would I stop? I think everybody deserves to know what kind of family you live in. I mean, even your family thinks you're a demon. I heard them say so. Also, your father isn't a very good man, is he? He should really be in jail for-" Avery interrupted with another "STOP." A feeling of dread settled over the class. They could practically feel Andrew's mood getting dark. Avery was shaking uncontrollably now with fury, and something else unidentifiable. "I'm not going to fucking stop so shut up, bastard. I heard your mother screaming at your father that he's a-" "NO!!!" Avery shouted and Andrew shoved him against the wall. He felt like he was going to explode with anger and panic.
"He's a-" Avery shoved him, hard. Everybody gasped like they were in a stupid movie or something. Andrew stumbled back. Avery knew he was dead at this point, but he no longer cared. It was nobody's business what happened in his house. His prison. "That's it. You're done, Avery. We're having a real fight now." When Avery didn't move, he said, "Well? Throw the first punch you fucker." When Avery still just stood there, he threw a punch and Avery dodged. Avery didn't know why he was trembling so hard and why his body felt so hot, was it the fury rushing through his bloodstream? He happened to glance around and see several more people were shaking slightly. 'Weird…' Then he saw something even weirder. He saw the principal looking in the door as if waiting for something. He smiled when Avery saw him and made a motion with his hand that said 'get a move on.' 'What???' The principal made a punching motion. 'This principle is crazy! He should be stopping the fight!' Then, out of nowhere, Andrew said the words. The very unsaid words that started this fight. "Your father is a murderer." He landed a punch on Avery while he was still shocked. Avery's mind broke and dozens of memories of getting beat up came to the surface. All those feelings of inferiority came forth and his rage exploded.
